Guide to Character Guides

Note: I am provisionally planning to refresh & update this guide for Endless Ragnarok since a friend talked me into picking it up but I anticipate it will be quite a while still before there's much meaningful change yet. Around a week later and I'm already kind of winding down on it. I wrote the original guide when the game had been out for a little while so there were a lot more resources at the time. Since ER is new and fresh there isn't a lot of stuff to link to except in the few cases where a character's dedicated guide-writer has returned. FWIW many older guides are still relevant wrt playstyle, though Sigil recommendations will be out of date for ER content. The Master Trait styles also give you major clues on how you're intended to play a character and you can often deduce how to play from those, once you've unlocked access to them. For the purposes of this guide, links and info for pre-Endless Ragnarok content will be formatted in quote blocks like this. This guide is going to be a collection of links to mostly (but not only!) various reddit threads and posts that give good insight on how to build and play each individual character as I look into them personally. Only looking at DPS builds here since in most cases that's all that matters. This is a work in progress for now so there may be some protracted blank sections, sorry! Keep in mind I won't be discussing the quality of the builds or guides linked unless I've actually played them extensively; expect that everything here is at least playable. Most everything is going to be pre-Lucilius partly because that's what I've been looking for since I haven't reached the point where I have him on farm and partly because most of the material on the game was written pre-1.1.0 anyways (though much of it is still useful). Suggestions are welcome! https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3158765995 As per this guide and others, the TLDR and running theme through most of the sigil builds is: You need Damage Cap to be, uh, capped at 65, 60 of which will come from legendary Damage Cap sigils and the remaining 5 from your Terminus Weapon You'll need extra damage to get to those caps but this is usually accomplished with only a handful of Tyranny, Stamina, and a few other common types of damage boosting sigils, but notably almost never generic Attack Power sigils Sigils that give bonus damage in addition to potential capped damage, ie War Elemental and 1-3 Supplemental Damage V Many characters want to be crit chance capped at 100% which is usually accomplished with 1-2 sigils plus Overmastery (up to 20%) and Wrightstones (up to 10%) Some characters want other kinds of incidental damage utility like Quick Cooldown & Cascade, Combo Booster, Uplift, et al. Defensive utility is great, Autorevive or Guts and Potion Hoarder are borderline mandatory unless you play immaculately; Aegis, Improved Dodge etc. are all good too Trait levels tend to have diminishing returns which is why you won't see many build stacking tons of the same one; eg it's better to have Tyranny 15 + Stamina 15 than only one of either at 30 Character specific sigils are usually very powerful but also vary widely from useless to character-enabling Once you've started ER continuing to use your pre-ER Terminus weapon is a trap, you want to Transcend any weapon you possibly can and start using it asap. Conflux also makes it very easy to shortcut uncapping, leveling, and ascending your weapons. Power rating is very weird and you'll find it jumps in fits and spurts. I went from 40k to 48k literally just from unlocking just the first tier of post-MT50 unlocked Masteries. Any Transcended weapon + shooting for ~200k HP is where you want to be. The ultimate meta is apparently something like this and is fairly universal: https://www.reddit.com/r/GranblueFantasyRelink/comments/1uuebvc/updated_infographic_for_endgame_build_optimized/ https://www.reddit.com/r/GranblueFantasyRelink/comments/1utoeb8/general_early_infographic_for_endgame_builds/ This is a very sweaty grind since you need to get enough of the right sigils and then synthesize them which is really brutal RNG even with save scumming. It's maybe not even fully necessary to complete Defy Infinity but will probably make finishing and farming it easier. The tl;dr is that you want: Your character specific Warpath Sigil, which are universally very good +/- your character's Awakening Sigil, the quality of which will vary by character and may be worth passing up 5 Basic Stat Sigils, important for the Master Trait that gives DMG Cap for each equipped one, the example above uses 2x Health and 3x Stun--Stun ends up being fairly important for Defy Infinity Quests 5 Defense or Support Sigils, for similar Master Traits Greater Aegis & Improved Dodge are borderline mandatory here, Nimble Onslaught is also extremely useful, Uplift is also fairly universally great, else this is to character taste Both of the above sets should include secondaries that carry the important offense Sigils including several of the new ER ones: 3-4x DMG Cap; a fully maxed out Terminus weapon will have a 4th DMG Cap Lvl 15 else you'll need to cram that in somewhere 1x Berserker Echo & Spartan Echo, however these are relatively easy to get on Summons 1x War Elemental, also somewhat easy to get on a Summon 1x Celestial Lumen, Celestial Terra, Celestial Ventus, Celestial Incendo, and Celestial Aqua (Celestial Nyx is relatively skippable), may also be easy to get on Summons 1x Fatebreaker 2-3x Supplementary Damage Ideally, Potion Hoarder, Guts, and Autorevive, but these are also good options for Summons and Wrightstones since it's less important they be precisely Lvl 15 Unlike before, you often won't need explicit bonuses to ATK but it's easier than ever now to know if you're below or above your DMG cap since Barrold now has a setting that shows you this. You want to be as close to 100% as possible, if you're below it means you need more ATK, if you're above you're losing damage from not having more DMG cap. You basically always want as much DMG cap as you can get your hands on. Again, if you're not yet farming Defy Infinity, temper your ambitions here. You really don't need to the 5 Basic & 5 Defense/Support setups for basically all of Chaos++. A couple pairs of Alpha/Beta/Gamma will suffice, especially if you already have them and don't have to take the time to farm them up. A pre-ER generic DMG Cap Sigil setup is fine for probably at least as far as you'll get before farming Lucilius for Sigils is made easier by better weapons, but also keep in mind Conflux 4 & 5 give you starter sets of the materials for those Sigils too. Celestial Sigils are amazing but come with downsides so pick out the one or two bangers and generally don't worry about how the combination of Sigils shakes out. IMO the important stuff roughly in order is something like: 4x DMG Cap 1x War Elemental 1-2x Supplementary Damage 1x Potion Hoarder, Guts, Autorevive The basic buyable Warpath Sigil 1x Fatebreaker 1x Spartan & Berserker Echo 1x Aegis or Improved Aegis (depending) 1x Improved Dodge Savescum your way to an Awakening+ Sigil if you want it and that should be fine for most of the expansion.
