Things I Wish I Knew From the Start (for those who come after)

If you’re not sure what to do with a certain quest, chances are you simply haven’t progressed far enough in the story. Many questlines available from the very beginning only become solvable much later. A good example is the family locked in the basement in the trenches. You’ll get that task almost immediately, but you won’t be able to complete it until much later in the plot. Just keep playing — you’ll eventually find everything you need. ( UPD: Be careful, though: some tasks can be failed if not completed in time, so don't delay completing tasks when you have everything you need. However, I adhere to the concept that a bad outcome is still an outcome. The game world is cruel, and not everything can be fixed.) Take notes. On paper or in digital form. As mentioned above, you might come across an item that was needed a long time ago, or see a locked door whose key you won’t find anytime soon. But the game doesn’t have a quest log that automatically reminds you where each key goes. So write down every locked door, chest, and similar points of interest, along with a short description and location. It will save you a lot of time hunting for what a newly found key unlocks. Don’t try to kill every enemy in the early zones. It’s hard because you’re weak at the start, but later you’ll find items that make clearing areas much easier and more enjoyable. Moreover, clearing them early is pointless — enemies respawn whenever you leave the zone, until you *spoiler*. This might seem obvious, but it didn’t click for me right away: you can hold block all the time, not just right before an attack. You can sit in block indefinitely and not take damage, as long as you still have stamina and the enemy doesn’t hit you from behind. Blocking right before an attack isn’t just blocking — that’s a parry. A parry can stagger enemies, and sometimes you can finish them with a single strike afterward. But parries only work on attacks where the enemy flashes with a red silhouette. Healing Pulse. The most important early-game ability, and still useful later. It’s not like Bloodborne’s rally system — it’s literally vampiric healing. You can restore health simply by hitting enemies, as long as you press the Pulse button at the right moment. That moment is when your health bar or the ring around your character flashes white. Press it too early or too late and the charge is lost. It’s hard to watch indicators in the heat of battle, but here’s the trick: you can pull off a Pulse while blocking. Hit the enemy a few times, then block when they swing at you. Wait for the white flash, press Pulse — and boom, full health again. Most enemies are composed of a walker and a haze. It’s tough for beginners to fight both at once. While the haze is orbiting its walker, you can’t kill the walker — but you can still damage it. If you send your drone to distract the haze, you can safely deal with the walker. It won’t die, but it’ll collapse into a coma, staring at the sky. Then you can focus on the haze; the walker won’t interfere. Once the haze is dead, just finish the walker. You won’t even need to fight — just press X (I play on gamepad). Don’t forget to Pulse after the execution — it restores a huge chunk of health. When you unlock Signs, you’ll be able to kill double enemies before they release their haze. The red arrow hits from a distance and stuns for a couple of seconds. Shoot, run up, and finish the fight before they can split. Fighting groups with multiple walkers and a haze is very difficult early on — but you don’t have to. If they’re guarding some loot, you can simply sprint in, grab the item, and run away without engaging. You can come back later when you’re stronger and know how to close loops. --- Источник: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3598952608
