Titles are used in Tales of Symphonia to modify the characters stats as they level up. When placing a title on a character, it has no immediate effect. Once the character levels up, the title currently on him or her will have a chance (x/10) to boost certain stats on top of the standard increase. For instance, Lloyd's Drifting Swordsman title will cause a +1 HP (1/10 chance for extra HP), +2 STR (2/10 chance of extra STR), +2 DEF (2/10 chance of extra DEF) chance of increase in stats on top of the standard increase upon level. Changing titles does not retroactively increase or decrease stats, however, it will only affect future levels. Titles marked with an asterisk(*) indicate that it changes the characters costume. This is a list of the titles that each character may acquire by default or by satisfying certain criteria throughout the game. Open to corrections/additions if necessary, don't hesitate. Obviously contains spoilers. You won't be able to collect every titles in a single playthrough (at least 5 are necessary based on the Flanoir Event). Also, some titles will only be available after the Flanoir Doctor event (part of the story, quite late): the beach event titles/costumes, the dance party and at least 1 other title for each character depending on your character choice in Flanoir. The Flanoir Doctor event will allow you to pick between the 3 characters with the highest affection (Kratos included). Tracking your affection is a bit annoying and requires you to plan your playthrough based on which characters you want in your top 3, especially for Kratos. The Dance Party will require saving the princess with Zelos, it's a side quest available after completing the Latheon Gorge (fairly late in the game). Lloyd will always get the title, then you can pick 3 characters at the party. The Beach event in Altamira: Lloyd will always get the title, then you can pick another character for the title, and then the 2 characters with the highest affection will also get a title. Mainly because it involves getting him back on your team after what happens in the story (trying not to spoil too much). To get him back he'll need to be in your top 3 affection list before the Flanoir doctor event, then you'll have to pick him. I'd recommend reading a guide about how to get his affection high enough, it'll require not missing some events fairly early in the game.
