I started by finding potions with moving gemstones surrounding them; they stood out to me because of the animation and made it easier for me to find and collect them all. If you're not sure where to start, pick one colour and collect all the potions you can find with that colour. As you put them on the shelves, sort them vaguely by bottle and label style, even if you're not sure what the puzzle solution is yet. It will help you reduce the possibilities. Run around the perimeter of the entire main room, looking at all the shelves, tables, and walls. Click on interactible items and remember the icons that you see for later. Systematically do the same thing around the shelves. Check for interactible items and take note of symbols. If you're holding a potion, items that could give you clues sparkle a little, so you can use this to help. Something with a certain number of items or patterns in a certain order will almost certainly come in handy later! If you're stuck on a puzzle, remember that some clues around the room can be used in multiple ways to solve multiple puzzles. Revisit some old clues and see if they have extra information that you didn't notice the first time. If you find interesting items but you aren't sure where they go yet, chuck them into the tutorial room so you remember where you put them. Once you find their home, you can go back for them later. Pressing the 'tab' key while holding a potion allows you to see the solution for its puzzle if you've solved it before. It's a good way to quicklly see whether a potion is part of a familiar collection or something new.
