This guide uses a wide variety of terms to describe patterns, but different people might have a different definition of them. To ensure there are no misunderstandings when submitting patterns, I would like to dedicate this section of the guide to explaining them. [Patterns] Chords are two or more notes played at the same time. Streams are a continuous series of notes on different lanes. Chordstreams are a continuous series of notes with chords on either 4ths or 8ths. Double Streams are a continuous series of two notes being played at the same time, but on different lanes. Rolls are a continuous series of notes going either left to right or right to left. Examples [postimg.cc] Stairs are a continuous series of notes going from side to side. Trills are two notes being repeated. Chordtrills are alternating chords being repeated. Jacks are a continuous series of notes on the same lane. Chordjacks are a continuous series of chords on the same lanes. Middle Jacks are exclusive to 5B. They are a continuous series of notes on lane 3 of the 5B layout. Examples [postimg.cc] Hamburgers are exclusive to 8B. They feature singular notes found between the left FX and/or right FX triggers of the 8B layout. Noodles are a continuous series of long notes or, more specifically, long notes being repeatedly held and let go of. ST/FX refers to patterns that make use of the green SideTrack and red FX keys in a unique way. Most of the time, it is alternating between the two. Examples [postimg.cc] [Subpatterns] Denim refers to a type of pattern consisting of alternating white notes and blue notes. For DJMAX, this would be either (135-24-135) for 5B or (1346-25-1346) for 6B/8B. However, patterns such as (125-34-125) are counted as Denims. HEXAD Trills are exclusive to 8B. They consist of a FX key on one hand and a standard key on the other, alternating between the hands. (L6-R3-L5-R2-L4-R1) The term comes from HEXAD's 8B SC. FX Chords are exclusive to 8B. As the name implies, it is a chord on top of both FX notes. More commonly though, it acts a chord using both FX keys and a single note. Examples [postimg.cc] Wrist Turns are exclusive to 8B. They consist of note(s) on either hand and one FX key on the opposite hand, repeatedly switching between the hands. This creates a slight wrist-turning motion and is essentially a chordtrill.
