FFX / FFX-2: STABILITY & CRASH FIX GUIDE

DXVK is not a universal fix. Practical experience shows significant issues with the following hardware: Intel Arc Graphics (A-Series & B-Series): While these are modern GPUs, they use a completely different architecture (Xe-HPG). The Conflict: Intel’s Windows drivers already use their own translation layers (like D3D9On12) for older games. The Result: Manually adding DXVK often causes an immediate crash or "Device Lost" errors because the manual DXVK files fight with the internal Intel driver logic. For most Arc users, the native driver (without DXVK) is more stable. Older GPUs (e.g., GTX 970 & below): Although these cards theoretically support Vulkan, their aging architecture often leads to instability or performance losses rather than gains. Intel Laptop Graphics (iGPU): Older office laptops (pre-2020) often lack essential driver features. As a result, many games will fail to launch entirely. For all these graphics cards, only use the 4GB patch and skip the DXVK steps. Processor: Intel I7 3770 GPU: NVIDIA Geforce GTX 1050 TI (4 GB VRAM) OS: Windows 10 This guide focuses on absolute stability. Please note that the UnX project (SpecialK) and DXVK are currently not compatible because they both require the same dxgi.dll. Unless a programmer merges these projects in the future, you must choose. This guide prioritizes a crash-free experience. If you have UnX installed, please remove its files first to ensure a "clean slate. Before following this guide, I recommend performing the following steps. This removes corrupted files or mod leftovers without requiring a full redownload of the game. Step 1: Open the game's installation directory and delete all files and folders except for Data and magicFiles. Step 2: Right-click the game in Steam → Properties → Installed Files → Verify integrity of game files. 4GB Patch (by NTCore) (Increases available RAM for the game to prevent crashes) https://ntcore.com/files/4gb_patch.zip DXVK (by doitsujin) (Fixes stuttering and improves stability via Vulkan optimization) https://github.com/doitsujin/dxvk/releases/download/v2.7.1/dxvk-2.7.1.tar.gz Step 1: The 4GB Patch Copy 4gb_patch.exe into your game folder. Run it, select "FFX&X-2_Will.exe" and click OK. Repeat for "FFX.exe" and "FFX-2.exe". Step 2: The DXVK Fix Important information: do not use the "x64" folder. Does not work with 32-bit applications. Open the dxvk-x.x.x.tar.gz file, go to the "x32" folder. Copy "dxgi.dll" and "d3d11.dll" into your game folder. Step 3: The Success Check (The Logs) The Launcher handles three separate applications. Depending on what you start, different log pairs will appear in your folder. If you see the logs for the content you are playing, the fix is active. Final Fantasy X / Eternal Calm FFX_dxgi.log & FFX_d3d11.log Final Fantasy X-2 / Last Mission FFX-2_dxgi.log & FFX-2_d3d11.log Credits & Bonus Audio FFX&X-2_Will_dxgi.log & FFX&X-2_Will_d3d11.log Step 4: Disable Compatibility Mode Right-click "FFX&FFX-2_LAUNCHER.exe" → Properties → Compatibility. IMPORTANT: Uncheck all boxes (Compatibility modes etc.). Repeat for: "FFX&X-2_Will.exe", "FFX.exe", and "FFX-2.exe". Press Esc as soon as the game title is displayed. Go to the system settings, select video, and disable V-Sync. I'm guessing the game also crashes more often at higher FPS rates on my old 60 FPS system, which is why I'm having problems with it. GPU Control Panel: Force V-Sync externally via NVIDIA Control Panel or AMD Adrenalin. Modern Monitors: If you use G-Sync or FreeSync, just leave V-Sync off completely your monitor will handle it automatically. Important note: After some testing in the community, it seems that administrator mode is causing problems with unlocking achievements. Only use this mode if you have problems starting or saving. Right-click "FFX&FFX-2_LAUNCHER.exe" → Properties → Compatibility. Check "Run this program as an administrator". Repeat for: "FFX&X-2_Will.exe", "FFX.exe", and "FFX-2.exe". I have personally tested this solution with FFX-2 (YRP) over two complete, back-to-back playthroughs, which took approximately 10 hours. Crucially, I played mostly at 4x speed (Turbo Mode) to stress-test the stability. Result: Not a single crash! Everything ran perfectly, even at maximum graphic settings. You no longer need to lower your graphics to play stably. Steam Post Reddit Post Original Steam Guide Structure [docs.google.com] Since a certain person only wrote half of it, I have to republish my guide under Steam Guides. Actually, everything was supposed to be tested with the community, but oh well. If you don't want to use third-party tools, you shouldn't be writing a guide about third-party tools. --- Источник: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3639729696
