Level 1 → Building Your First Fleet Idle Fleet on Steam Idle Fleet is an idle skilling game where your fleet continues working even when you're offline. There are multiple skills that feed into each other: you mine resources, salvage wrecks, refine materials, manufacture equipment, fight enemies, trade goods, and eventually send expeditions into deep space. The most important thing for a new player to understand is: You are building an economy, not just leveling skills. What you gather today becomes the material you need for another skill later. Think of Idle Fleet like this: ⛏ Mining ↓ Ore 🔧 Salvaging ↓ Scrap & Components 🧪 Refining ↓ Alloys & Fuel ⚙️ Engineering ↓ Weapons, Ammo & Equipment 🎯 Combat ↓ Combat Rewards 📈 Trading ↓ Credits 🚀 Exploration ↓ Large XP, Credits & Rare Materials Eventually all of these systems feed into one another. The developers specifically designed low-level materials to remain useful because ore feeds Refining, alloys feed Engineering, and ammunition feeds Combat. Beginner Rule #1 DON'T SELL EVERYTHING. That pile of Iron, Copper or Hull Scrap might look useless. It isn't. Mining is one of the easiest systems to understand and provides materials you'll use throughout the game. At Level 1 you begin with: Iron Belt Level: 1 XP: 11 Base time: 2.1 seconds Produces: 1 Iron Ore Just start mining. Early on, you're accomplishing two things simultaneously: gaining Mining XP + building your first resource stockpile. ---YOUR FIRST MINING UNLOCKS--- As Mining increases, new asteroid belts become available. Mining Level Unlock 1 Iron Belt 10 Copper Belt 20 Silicate Cluster 30 Cobalt Belt 38 Rich Iron Vein 40 Titanium Belt 45 Rich Copper Vein 50 Palladium Ring 55 Dense Silicate Cluster 60 Iridium Belt 65 Cobalt Motherlode 70 Osmium Field 80 Tritium Shoal 90 Dark Matter Vein Don't worry about Osmium, Tritium or Dark Matter when you're starting. Your first meaningful goal is: Mining Level 10, because it unlocks Copper. After that: Mining Level 20 for Silicate. ---DON'T ALWAYS MINE THE HIGHEST NODE--- This is important. Higher level ≠ automatically better. Sometimes you need: Iron Sometimes you need: Copper Sometimes you want: XP Sometimes you want: credits/value Idle Fleet lets you sort activities by things such as Level, XP/h and Value. Use that. If Engineering needs Iron, mine Iron. If Refining needs Copper, mine Copper. If you don't need anything specific, then look at XP/h. Salvaging is the other half of your raw-material economy. Mining gives you ore. Salvaging gives you scrap and specialized components. At Level 1: Debris Field Level: 1 XP: 11 Base time: 2.8 seconds Produces: Hull Scrap and potentially Iron Ore. ---WHY SALVAGING MATTERS--- A beginner might look at Mining and think: "I'll just mine everything I need." You can't. Many recipes eventually require materials obtained from wrecks. As Salvaging progresses you'll find things such as: Hull Scrap Plating Scrap Circuit Scrap Alloy Scrap Capacitor Banks Precision Gyros Reactor Scrap Salvaged AI Cores Exotic Scrap Singularity Shards These become increasingly important for Refining and Engineering. Beginner Rule #2 SAVE YOUR SCRAP. Especially specialized scrap. ---EARLY SALVAGING PROGRESSION--- Level Wreck 1 Debris Field 12 Freighter Graveyard 25 Patrol Wreckage 40 Cruiser Hulk 55 Station Ruins 70 Dreadnought Carcass 82 Alien Derelict 92 Void Remnant Don't worry about rushing Level 92. Early on your first target should simply be: Salvaging Level 12 That opens the Freighter Graveyard and starts expanding the materials available to you. Now the game starts getting interesting. Mining gave you ore. Salvaging gave you scrap. Refining turns those materials into something useful. For example: Smelt Steel Alloy Unlocked at: Refining Level 1 Requires: 2 Iron Ore Produces: 1 Steel Alloy That Steel Alloy can then become an input for Engineering. This is your first real production chain: Iron Ore ↓ Steel Alloy ↓ Engineering Products This concept eventually becomes the foundation of the entire game. ---DON'T REFINE YOUR ENTIRE INVENTORY--- Another major beginner mistake. You obtain 1,000 Iron Ore and immediately turn all 1,000 into Steel Alloy. Don't. Raw ore itself is required by other recipes and activities. Try maintaining reserves. Instead of: 1,000 Iron → 500 Steel Alloy consider keeping some Iron and converting only what you currently need. Beginner Rule #3 DON'T ZERO OUT MATERIALS UNLESS YOU HAVE A REASON. This becomes much more important later. ---YOUR EARLY ALLOY PROGRESSION--- As Refining increases you'll unlock increasingly advanced materials. Level 1 — Steel Alloy ↓ Level 18 — Conductive Alloy ↓ Level 26 — Titanium-Flux Steel ↓ Level 32 — Composite Alloy ↓ Level 48 — Titanium Alloy ↓ Level 76 — Iridium Alloy ↓ Level 90 — Dark Alloy A new player doesn't need to memorize this. Just understand: Your ores and scrap eventually become increasingly valuable manufactured materials. ---FUEL IS IMPORTANT ⛽--- Refining also creates fuel. Your first recipe appears very early: Synthesize Fuel Cells — Level 8 Requires: 2 Copper Ore Produces: 2 Fuel Cells Fuel Cells aren't just another item to sell. They are used elsewhere in the game. For example, Trading contracts consume Fuel Cells. So once you unlock Copper: Mine Copper ↓ Refine Fuel Cells ↓ Use Fuel Cells for other activities Another production chain has now opened. Engineering takes the economy you've built and turns materials into usable products. This includes: Ammunition Weapons Repair Kits and other manufactured equipment. One of your earliest weapons is: Craft Autocannon Engineering Level 3 It requires: Steel Alloy and Hull Scrap Notice what's happening: Mining provides Iron ↓ Refining turns Iron into Steel ↓ Salvaging provides Hull Scrap ↓ Engineering combines them ↓ Weapon That's Idle Fleet. ---YOUR FIRST AMMUNITION--- Engineering Level 1 gives you: Press Kinetic Rounds Requires: Steel Alloy Produces: 110 Kinetic Rounds That ammunition can then be used in Combat. So now your production chain becomes: Mine Iron ↓ Refine Steel ↓ Engineer Ammunition ↓ Use Ammunition in Combat This is why you don't want to sell every piece of Iron you mine. ---DON'T MANUFACTURE RANDOM ITEMS--- Just because you can craft something doesn't mean you should. Look at what the recipe consumes. Ask: Do I need this? Is this material difficult for me to replace? Am I making this for XP? Am I making this for Combat? Am I making this to sell? This becomes extremely important once recipes start consuming rare components. Combat isn't simply: Pick strongest enemy → attack. Enemies have: HP Defense Dodge Weaknesses and Resistances For example: Scavenger Weak to: KINETIC Resists: EXPLOSIVE So using Kinetic damage gives you an advantage. ---LEARN THE THREE DAMAGE TYPES--- From the enemies we've documented, you'll encounter three important damage categories: 🔵 KINETIC 🟠 EXPLOSIVE 🟡 THERMAL Enemies can be weak or resistant to particular types. That means eventually you shouldn't rely on one weapon setup for everything. You want the ability to counter your target. ---READ THE COMBAT SCREEN--- Idle Fleet helps you. If your setup counters an enemy you'll see: ✓ your fit exploits this That's good. If you're fighting something and see: no matching gun fitted you're not exploiting its weakness. For a beginner: Fight enemies you counter. Don't worry about killing the biggest thing available just because you unlocked it. ---DON'T WASTE AMMUNITION--- Ammunition costs resources. Resources take time. So Combat has a hidden production cost. Think: Mining time Salvaging time Refining time Engineering time = Your ammunition. That means inefficient Combat is actually wasting production time. Trading is one of your ways of converting resources into credits. Your first contract is: Local Station Run Trading Level 1 Requires: 1 Fuel Cell Rewards: 90 credits Remember how Fuel Cells were made? Copper Ore ↓ Refining ↓ Fuel Cell ↓ Trading Contract ↓
