The Goo Gun Guide

Hello! 👋 This guide focuses on the basic and advanced information about the Goo Gun , the Heavy Specialization that sees limited use due to the high skill ceiling and assumed situational usage . (1) When I started playing The Finals in season 6 I was glued to using the winch as it paired really well with closing the distance when paired with a Sledgehammer . However I found it often lacked efficiency when it came to more advanced players. It threw me in a bit of a loop to try and figure out what specialization to use in its stead, but eventually I stumbled upon videos on YouTube by the user: Le'vita Watching Le'vita use the Goo Gun was eye-opening for me and showed me its immense potential and versatility compared to the other specializations on offer and I quickly found myself using it, struggling alot , but eventually getting the hang of it. I have never had as much fun both learning and using a gadget in game. And so this guide aims to make learning and inspiring usage of the Goo Gun that bit more easier as, during my time learning how best to use it, I discovered there wasn't many places dedicated to showcasing all the neat little tricks you can pull off with it. That's what this guide will fulfil, a straightforward no-nonsense package of Goo knowledge. I also highly encourage you look up and watch some of Le'vita's videos, a lot of what I know today is due to them and their videos. They are well put together and entertaining for anyone interested in The Finals and Heavy gameplay. So, how will this guide work? In the goal to be straightforward and informative , it will mainly focus initially on the stats and basics and evolve to more mechanically demanding techniques and ideas on how to use goo to your advantage. Please keep in mind that while some techniques discussed can apply to other sources of goo, the rest of the guide is mainly for the Goo Gun. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Basic information: Goo is a spawnable object that can be produced from three sources: Goo Canisters (Found around the arena) - Produces a wall of 4x2 Goo blobs. (2) Goo Grenades (Equipable all-class gadget) - Produces a wall of 5x2 Goo blobs. (3) The Goo Gun (A Heavy Specialization) - A single Goo blob per shot, out of 20. (1-4) Goo, regardless of the source, contains the unique property to stick to the majority of surfaces found within any arena. Each individual blob has 240 health and a duration of 90 seconds . After 90 seconds the Goo will 'decay' and destroy itself. The only exception to these stats is when a player is Goo'd , as the goo will decay naturally after one second , however its sticking properties remain: halting the players movement and any momentum for the time they are stuck. The last thing to know about goo statistically is that, as a physical object , it interacts under the same physics engine as building debris . That being said: Goo has weight and requires an anchor point to build upon , otherwise it will be affected by gravity the same as anything else. A wall of Goo from a Goo Cannister or Grenade will have one Goo be the anchor point that connects to the rest of the Goo. If you removed this anchor point , the entire wall would crumble and be destroyed. (5) You can attach and lock 15 pieces of Goo together before the limit is reached and you cannot add anymore without it immediately decaying. Using the Goo Gun for mobility is, I would say, one of the most underused aspects a player can take advantage of when using the Goo Gun . Most players tend to see it as a tool to fortify an area, but you can do the inverse and become a much more mobile and aggressive threat with the techniques showcased below: ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Goo Slides: Goo Sliding is a technique in where you gain momentum by sliding off a Goo Blob . If preformed perfectly you are able to catch up to Mediums . However the practicality of a Medium running in a straight line for this to occur is slim. To preform this: You will require initial momentum which can be gained by simply running for a short period of time. When this is achieved; jump and look straight down to the ground and shoot one Goo Blob . As you begin to fall back down, you must enable your sprint and time your crouch in order to slide. If preformed right, you will be 'pushed' forward a short distance. This must be done within a very short time frame. Try to focus on each part one after the other if possible as to not preform an action in the wrong order or too soon. If you have ever utilised a jump pad, zipline, or jumped from a high place onto an object and slid to retain your momentum, this is essentially the same thing, the difficulty only comes from angling the Goo and reenabling your sprint before you press crouch to slide. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Pillars: Pillars are very simple and can be used both vertically and horizontally . They are not the most optimal way to gain height or cross gaps, however it is still useful to know for when a situation arises. Vertical Pillars are best preformed by shooting below your feet at the height of your jump . Pace your shots as it is very easy to shoot too early/ late and Goo-lock yourself, causing the goo to decay and forcing you to try again, which is a time waste more than anything. Horizontal Pillars are simple. Keep in mind you can only have a max chain of 15 and that they require a solid anchor point least the bridge collapses. The real learning curve is adjusting your aim to avoid building a ramp instead of a bridge. Once you are confident with the simple variations of pillaring, you can increase the speed in which you do them by creating them mid jumps or while you approach an area you plan to climb . Babylon Tower: Named by Le'vita , the Babylon Tower is a variation of vertical Pillaring that encourages speed while adding risk due to the need to jump off and clamber back onto your creation to avoid Goo-locking yourself and having the blob decay. And because of the spiral shape you often end up creating. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Wall Climbs: Wall Climbs probably have the most practical use out of all the Mobility techniques listed so far. In theory, you can scale any wall with this technique assuming it is mostly flat or you utilise the technique in combination with Pillaring to create platforms for yourself to adjust and assess where exactly your aiming to go or do. To preform this: Approach a wall you wish to climb and shoot a Goo Blob a little above yourself, low enough to clamber onto. While standing on the blob, face the wall and jump backwards off it. Whilst in the air, before you start to fall, shoot another Goo Blob slightly higher than where you are looking. Quickly clamber onto the new Goo Blob and repeat as necessary. Chances are you will only ever have to do this 1-2 times in to reposition yourself. However be aware that if you fail to clamber, you will fall and typically be unable to catch any of your previous Goo Blobs assuming you are doing it in a straight line. Vice versa it does have the advantage that others cannot utilise your Goo to also clamber up the side of a wall or building. When you feel more confident with basic Wall Climbs , you can try increase the speed of them by going upwards diagonally . Additionally you can also do this from the side to both cross and/ or scale walls at the same time. Aiming and timing is finicky when starting out but I find flicking works best for this kind of technique. If you've ever done rocket jumps in TF2 its a similar premise to aiming on an angle, but you can go at your own speed . ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Vents: It bec
