The Alecto, by it's nature, craves Advance, Blood, and Chaos. Provide these things in time with the battlefield's tempo, and become one with Alecto... Obstructions abound. Early game abundance of enemy firepower and attention. Teammates who can't even find the 'w' in 'win'. And outsized persecution of our exalted Alecto, bloomed from past traumas you seek to renew. Overcome. With intimate knowledge of the Alecto's many strengths. Of every helpful fold of a map's terrain. Of all the favored haunts of snipers and cheeky scout's bushes. Of the enemy's habits of deployment, and how to detect them early at minimal cost. With leveraged mastery of Alecto's advanced mobility. Peerless damage output. Devilish hull-down profile. Focused configuration. And psychological pressure generated by your sheer presence. Audacity is your armor. Bloodlust is your blade. Chaos is your class. Initiative is Alecto's birthright and helplessness a foreign stranger. Victory is yours to seize, if you have the strength to carry it. Alecto, well played, is a wily, bloodthirsty wolf. You pressure with looming menace until finally you pounce on the distracted or isolated. And when you pounce, you trade flesh for bone ! Early game, you feel suffocated unless you are actively fighting, or forcing at least one enemy to focus solely on you. Bluntly, you breathe by stealing the enemy's breath! Alongside a competent team you are the calvary, the hammer to their anvil. They distract, you backstab. Hilariously, menace the enemy enough and the roles reverse! Later, you are THE DUELIST. You dream of a series of 1:1 engagements. Your gameplan is to shape the battlefield into a buffet of duels. Alecto Honestly, like a wolf in sheep's clothing, you're a medium tank that traded its armor for mobility and dpm (damage per minute). Armor/Tanking Your turret has some armor. Also the very top and sides of your hull against the lowest pen guns. Take some time in the armor tab to get a sense for it, and to memorize your blues. In a hull down position, leverage your insane gun depression to expose only your small turret and uppermost hull. In an exposed position, beyond evading, keep your nose at the enemy to minimize your profile and maximize your sliver of effective armor. Gun Best in game. Blinks are finite, and engine hits inevitable. While you absolutely should leverage your mobility and armor to the utmost, TRUST FIRST IN YOUR GUN!. If you are ever overwhelmed in a brawl and can't escape, it's OK to tunnel vision on shooting blues. Especially with weakness analyzer, you'll be amazed how often the enemy dies first. Otherwise, at least you got your damage in. When in doubt, shoot your way out! Ammo You shoot fast, with no long clip reload. Prefer shells with on-hit effects like: hp+ energy+ spotting Mobility You have 5 ways to maneuver your tank: Thrust (forwards/backwards) Strafe (side-thrust left/right) Steer (turn left/right) Blink Turret (mainly keep at enemy, perhaps with auto-target) The core of Alecto movement is combining the first 3 simultaneously. It takes practice, and perhaps re-binding keys. Consider doing movement drills with Alecto in sandbox for 10 minutes at the start of a session. About an hour of practice total, split over several days, will make movement 2nd nature. Blink comes next. Upon the foundation of solid 3x movement, practice blinking over tanks and terrain for 10m in sandbox. Before leaving, try blinking through the maul as it fires. Assuming a shot's loaded, most tanks fire the second they're able to point their barrel at you -- blink at that moment! If the enemy's reloading, and pointing their gun at you, wait until they're almost loaded then perform a sharp maneuver to break their turret tracking, purely to get the blink timing. Alecto turret's armor and profile are both best in front. So keep it pointed towards the enemy. This is difficult to do on the (hopefully rare) occasion you need to bravely run away so: Use the autotarget key and hold the trigger down to keep tracking and shooting enemies while fully focused on retreating. Orbit Alecto is happiest circling (orbiting) an enemy tank at close range. As near as possible, keeping the enemy turret facing the exact opposite way. To orbit, thrust forward, strafe, and steer simultaneously. Adjust as needed to keep your nose pointed at the enemy, yourself away from their gun, and maintain range. Your health and blink are resources burned to enter and exit orbit! (For succinctness, 'enemy' is henceforth aliased 'Red'.) Statistically, it's unlikely to be any of reds' first game. So they Know... Probably, an Alecto ate an entire Atlas in front of them before they could react. Perhaps they were that Atlas. Perhaps they've even seen an Alecto Maverick+ crush a 1v4, killing teammates like sheep. You are public enemy #1. Feared. Hated. Prioritized. Good. When Red hands the initiative to the tank that craves it most before the game even begins, how can you not smile? xD Deployment Patterns Even random players have patterns. Reds with many of the same tank (5+) almost always zerg rush Squad'd players stick together, or at least coordinate (ex. sniper overwatch) Noobs are aggression extremes -- beeline berserkers or base-sitters Vets gravitate towards meta The fastest way to learn meta is to guess the enemy's deployment before curtains fall (bonus points for your own too!) and then reflect on how right/wrong you were. After dozens of games per map, this will be 2nd nature, and you'll develop a veteran's 6th sense. Unfortunate Activation Often 1/4 or 1/3 of the enemy team are snipers. And often, they switch their brains off right after they reach their first (and only) position. If the main battle happens outside their LOS (line of sight), they'll thoughtlessly wait for their teammates to die before they even play the fighting tanks game. Like a bishop blocked by pawns in chess, they're useless until activated... Unfortunately, playing Alecto, you WILL activate these otherwise useless snipers. Pounce isolated snipers Mark and bypass grouped snipers (until conditions favor you) If your team pushes, and Red snipers have a good angle on them: Find a fold in terrain and offer yourself as a decoy. Sell your menacing image and attention wh*re as hard as you can, as cheaply (in hp) as you can! Spam spotting shells at the Red snipers. Attack ping whatever you reveal. Main Brawl (Hammering the Anvil) If your team gets into a big, evenish fight (3v3+ with maybe a +/- 1 imbalance), salute the initiator when the game ends. What a wonderful opportunity they bought you! Blink into the chaos and shoot blue on tanks' sides and rears. Suffer not your Beautiful, Competent teammates to eat a single shell unavenged! Main Brawl (Anvil'n the Hammer!?) Wow, Red wants you dead. You're just 1 tank, but they're sending 3+ to hunt your a** down! Thankfully, your team has found their 'w' key! Every extra tank they send after you is another wasted, accelerating the slaughter in the 7v5 (or better!) murderbowl happening elsewhere. Many Reds die swearing in agony at their minimap as they see the 3+ stooges deserting the frontline to throw the game chasing your chuckling a** over in Narnia. Perhaps you won't have the best damage numbers, but when your Beautiful 'w' mashing avengers arrive to backshot your fervent admirers, you'll add another victory to your blooming collection in your battles tab. Lone Wolf Ok, so your team is bad. Or enough of them are. The enemy keeps taking advantaged fights, like 4v3 or worse, because when some of your teammates booted up the shooty tank game and clicked 'play' then 'ready', they didn't really have their heart in it. They could've made that fight an even 4v4. They didn't. Now they get to fight a 1v4! Anyways, your team is not viable to coordinate with, a write-off. So rather than focusing on getting your team to win, pivot to getting the enemy to lose. Figure out how to setup 1v1 duels. Identify bad players you can ignor
