Rewrite Quest - Party Member Guide

Rewrite Quest doesn't yet have much documentation in the English speaking community, so it's my hope to change that with a series of guides. First is this one: I'll be briefly explaining the roles of all the party members in Rewrite Quest. I'll try to keep spoilers to a minimum, so I won't mention any bosses or enemies by name. That said, this guide will discuss all party members - even one that you only get halfway through - as well as all familiars. It shouldn't be anything that'll ruin your experience, however. Also check out my item guide! https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3556210753 Overview Kotarou's primary role is a front line damage dealer. Both his Single Target and Area Attack skill trees provide excellent damage for a variety of situations, and he scales extremely well all throughout the game. His Support skill tree is a little underwhelming - One Liner Joke can let him serve as a tank for a while, but it takes a turn where he could otherwise be dealing damage. Idea Overdrive and Rewrite are very nice buffs, but they're pretty expensive for what they do, and Kotarou is already kind of MP hungry, which is his only real downside. In long boss fights, you'll have to keep him topped up around halfway through. I'd suggest giving him a good mix of everything except Int, which he doesn't really need. Prioritise Attack and Def, give him a good bit of Agi, and feel free to dump his Dex and Luck if you feel like investing in more damage. Skills Unlike most other characters, Kotarou doesn't have any passive skills, which sort of adds to how MP hungry he is. Earlygame, you'll probably want to get Blood Trap as soon as you can. Area damage is hard to come by on the first few floors, and it can help with getting weaker mobs out of the way. After that, get Luis' Spear and the HP/MP upgrades. You should only really get his Support moves once there's nothing else left. As for his final skills, he gets Aurora + Fuego Sword for free from an event, leaving just Aurora Beast, Rewrite and HP/MP +50%. Out of those I'd definitely recommend Aurora Beast the most - it lets his DPS reach its apex, and I'd leave Rewrite for last, since in most boss fights I find you'll already have Akane buffing his damage and defense anyway. Internet Misinformation is a dummy skill that I've never found useful even a single time. Even though it's under Area ATTACK , it doesn't even deal damage! Overview Chihaya is by and large the best tank in the party, and should always be in the front row. Mega Bandage Barrier is her bread and butter, allowing her to soak up hits while everyone else sets up and deals damage. Later she'll get Toughen to increase her damage soaking capabilities even more, and eventually she'll even self sustain her own MP with Eat Something. She can also use familiars, which gives her a lot of utility! A strategy I used for earlygame bosses is to have Chihaya use Mega Bandage Barrier, and then switch to one of the single target Ent familiars (Ent/Ent Zwei/Ent Drei/Ent Zehn/Ent Hundert). This way, she'll be able to keep tanking while delivering some seriously powerful hits in return. You can return the familiar whenever she needs to cast Bandage Barrier again, though early on it might only take a few hits from the familiar to kill any bosses you find. Chihaya's capabilities outside of tanking and familiars are pretty lackluster. She has a brevy of self-buffing moves, as well as a few attacks, but none of them ever felt particularly useful. Lumber Strike and Chihaya OO deal pretty underwhelming damage (the latter even has a chance of backfiring), and she has better things to be doing than using Motivated to increase her attack count (which is something you'd only really want on your dedicated attackers). Later in the game, bosses begin to hit your whole party more often, which sort of dampens Chihaya's use in some scenarios, but for most of the game she remains pretty useful for boss encounters. Chihaya should focus on increasing her Defense and Intelligence. She always went last for me, so a bit of Agi wouldn't hurt either. The rest of her stats don't really matter. Skills Chihaya's Support tree is very strong, and should be a priority until you get Toughen. Legitimate Self-Defense seems to very rarely proc, so I'd save it for last when you have really nothing else to buy. Outside of that, she appreciates Mega Bandage Barrier, Eat Something, and all the HP and MP bonuses. I never really found a use for any of her other skills besides those. Overview Lucia is a fairly well balanced frontliner with the interesting niche of being the best item user among the party. That might not sound like much, but in lategame boss fights you'll be scrounging around for all the MP you can get your hands on, and items Lucia uses with her Tsundere skill have double effectiveness, which is huge! Not to mention there's a chance she won't even consume it with Recycle. Outside of that, her main focus is on straight damage. She has access to Poison skills as well, but Poison can wear off after just a few turns, so it's not really all that useful. Her damage potential is ultimately quite comparable to Kotarou and Sakuya, but Lucia's skills cost a fair bit less MP than those two as well. I'd invest on a nice mix of Attack, Defense, Agi, Dex and Luck for Lucia, focusing mainly on Attack. Skills Lucia's Vibration and Support skill trees are her best. Vibration has a lot of good damage dealing options with Vibration Blade (which even scales surprisingly well into the lategame), and Molecular Vibration Wave for some reasonable AoE damage at a good cost. Support is where she gets her item niche from, so it's also pretty important for her. Biological Pollution is... fine as a final skill, but you won't really know what enemies are weak to unless you memorise them, so it'll be a surprise whenever it becomes useful, if it becomes useful at all. Her final two damaging skills - Hyper Vibration Beatdown and Super Spicy Bento - deal pretty comparable damage. HVB deals it over several hits, while SSB deals it in one single attack. Use whichever you prefer. I'm a HVB guy myself... Overview Shizuru really does a bit of everything. She does damage, she buffs, she debuffs, she heals, and her damage isn't affected by what row she's in. She really is a jack of all trades in every sense of the word, and I'd say she's a rare case where almost every single one of her skills has a use. Shizuru can do basically whatever you want, so give her whatever stats you need. Personally, I gave her Attack, Defense, Dex and Agi, and left her other stats in the dumps, but I'm pretty certain she'll be good no matter what you give her. Like I said before, she can go in either row just fine, but I like to keep her in the back row since it doesn't impact her damage, and she can support easier from there. Skills Healing is the skill she starts with, and it's a nice extra heal. It's the only healing skill the party has outside of Kotori, so Shizu can be an emergency healer, or even your only healer if you're brave enough. She has a lot of other stuff to do though so I wouldn't really recommend that... Fainting Mist is whatever. Area-wide sleep. I never used it. Weakening Mist on the other hand is excellent. Shizuru is the only character with access to reducing enemy attack (I think Gil might be able to inflict it too, but his stuff is random), so combining this with Akane's defense boosting can dramatically increase the survivability of your party. Swift Strike ignores turn priority and lets Shizuru deal 2 hits immediately. Very nice if she doesn't have anything else to do, though I find her Agi is usually high enough that she'll go first or close to first anyway. Attack Mist increases the attack of the row she's currently in. Nice if you're using a frontline Shizuru, or using her without Akane, but I didn't use it too much. Multi Attack is some nice DPS, though it's pretty expensive and isn't quite as goo
