101 CATS IN MELBOURNE 101 Cats in Melbourne is one of the better HOG titles. The artwork looks alright and visually quite dense—elements are packed closely together, which makes spotting the hidden cats more challenging. Thankfully, the zoom system helps balance this difficulty and becomes an essential tool during gameplay. On the downside, the music can be quite annoying. It starts off extremely loud when launching the game, which may catch players off guard. Another notable drawback is the lack of a hint system. While this choice may extend playtime, it rather leads to frustration, especially when some cats are exceptionally well hidden and take a long time to find. Overall, the game meets expectations for the genre. It doesn’t offer deeper gameplay mechanics beyond finding all 101 cats, but it delivers a solid and enjoyable HOG experience. PS In case you are still missing some cats, just take a look at my guide. :) GL & HF :)

This feels like a crude copy of the Travellin Cats series. I don't know if it was made with AI but it has that same feeling of being a cheap imitation of something better. The music is quite annoying and there are no hints when you get to the last few cats so you might be stuck for a while. The thing that annoyed me the most was how little of Melbourne is actually shown in the game; so much of the screen is covered with trees, hot air balloons and massive butterflies that you can barely see any of the Melbourne landmarks. With that being said the game cost me less than £1 so I don't know what I was expecting.

101 Cats: Melbourne offers a straightforward hidden-object experience built around one charming objective: track down 101 cats concealed throughout a detailed Melbourne-inspired illustration. Developed and published by NaipSoft, it is clearly designed as a lightweight casual game rather than an elaborate puzzle adventure. There are no complicated systems to learn or lengthy introductions standing between the player and the main attraction. You enter the scene, begin searching, and gradually clear the picture of its cleverly hidden feline inhabitants. The gameplay succeeds because finding the cats becomes progressively more demanding. During the opening portion, several are relatively easy to notice, allowing the counter to rise quickly and providing an immediate sense of progress. The challenge becomes more interesting once those obvious targets have been collected. Remaining cats can blend into architectural details, objects, outlines, and crowded portions of the artwork, forcing you to slow down and examine the environment more carefully. Finding one after several minutes of searching produces a small but satisfying moment of discovery. Controls are intentionally minimal and fit the concept perfectly. The experience mainly involves navigating the illustration and clicking cats as they are discovered. Zoom functionality is particularly useful because searching every corner at the same magnification would make the later stages unnecessarily frustrating. Brightness adjustment provides another welcome accessibility option, especially when examining densely illustrated sections. There is very little mechanical complexity, making this the sort of game almost anyone can understand within seconds. Presentation plays an important role because the entire experience depends upon players wanting to study the artwork. The hand-drawn visual style gives the scene a playful personality while simultaneously providing plenty of opportunities to camouflage cats among environmental details. The Melbourne setting also gives this entry a recognizable identity rather than making it feel like a completely generic collection of hidden objects. Combined with the relaxing soundtrack, the overall atmosphere encourages patient exploration instead of hurried progression. There is also some flexibility in how players approach the challenge. It works perfectly well as a relaxing game where completion time does not matter, making it suitable for short breaks or quieter gaming sessions. Alternatively, players can turn the simple premise into a personal speed challenge by attempting to locate all 101 cats as efficiently as possible. That does not fundamentally change the mechanics, but it gives repeat attempts more purpose for anyone interested in improving their search time. Achievement collectors receive an additional incentive through 100 Steam achievements. This makes completing the search particularly rewarding for players who enjoy adding achievements to their profiles. Steam Cloud support is another convenient inclusion, while the game's modest system requirements make it accessible to PCs that would struggle with more demanding modern releases. These are small features individually, but they complement the game's accessible nature. The greatest weakness is also inseparable from the game's appeal: there simply is not much complexity here. The central activity remains finding cats from beginning to end. There are no elaborate narrative sequences, major mechanical changes, deep puzzle systems, or extensive progression features to substantially alter the experience. Once all 101 cats have been located, replay value depends mostly on achievements, improving completion time, or enjoying another relaxed look through the artwork. Players expecting hours of varied puzzle content should therefore adjust their expectations accordingly. Steam Deck compatibility is currently listed as Unknown/Unverified rather than carrying an official Valve Verified or Playable rating. Given the game's lightweight presentation and straightforward point-and-click design, its technical demands are modest, but the absence of an official compatibility rating means Steam Deck users should not interpret that as guaranteed full compatibility. As a small casual hidden-object title, 101 Cats: Melbourne accomplishes what it sets out to do without unnecessary complications. Its detailed hand-drawn scene, relaxing atmosphere, simple controls, zoom functionality, large achievement count, and increasingly tricky search make finding all 101 cats pleasantly addictive. Its limited scope prevents it from offering the depth of a larger puzzle game, but that simplicity is also precisely why it works as a comfortable, low-pressure diversion. For cat enthusiasts, achievement hunters, and players who enjoy carefully scanning illustrations for cleverly concealed details, it provides an enjoyable little challenge that respects the player's time. Rating: 7/10

Decent artwork, and the cats are just the right level of hidden. I'm not sure about replayability, but considering I got it on sale for less than a quid I'm not gonna complain.
