A short but really enjoyable mystery adventure with a great atmosphere and some unexpected twists. I loved the pixel art, especially how it was combined with real photographs of people, which gave the game a very distinctive feel. Simple, unusual, and nicely done!

Very fun. Short adventure with puzzles and an amusing story...about a date in the park. You can't go wrong with Cloak and Dagger Games

A short point-and-click horror game that starts off feeling surprisingly normal. You’re just exploring the park and talking to people, with nothing particularly alarming going on. The big reveal is genuinely shocking. The contrast between the normality of the setting and suddenly coming across something so horrible makes the moment much more effective. It’s also worth translating the gardener’s text if you don't speak Portuguese, as there’s more to what he says than you might expect. It’s not long, and completely free, but it manages to create a really unsettling atmosphere in that short time. Definitely worth playing if you enjoy short horror games with a darker story.

A Date in the Park is a short point-and-click adventure that demonstrates how an ordinary situation can become remarkably unsettling when information is deliberately withheld from the player. Developed and published by Cloak and Dagger Games, it begins with an innocent romantic premise before steadily introducing mystery, psychological discomfort, and horror. Its compact structure is central to its identity, allowing the story to move quickly without unnecessary diversions while still giving its unusual atmosphere enough time to develop. The player takes the role of Lou, a man who has recently moved to Lisbon to begin a new chapter of his life. After meeting Catarina during an evening out, he agrees to meet her the following day at her favorite park. What initially appears to be a pleasant date in an attractive outdoor location soon becomes increasingly peculiar. Catarina is not immediately where Lou expects her to be, and his attempt to locate her sends him around the park, where seemingly mundane interactions gradually create the impression that something is wrong. The premise is intentionally simple, but that simplicity makes the later changes in tone much more effective. Gameplay follows traditional point-and-click adventure principles. Lou explores different sections of the park, examines objects, talks to people, collects items, and solves puzzles that allow the narrative to progress. The puzzles are generally approachable rather than highly elaborate. This makes the game suitable for players who are primarily interested in narrative and atmosphere, although veterans looking for complicated inventory combinations or lengthy chains of logic puzzles may consider the mechanical depth fairly modest. The puzzles mainly serve the story by encouraging players to investigate their surroundings and notice details they might otherwise overlook. One of the most distinctive elements is the language barrier. Lou does not speak Portuguese, despite finding himself in Lisbon, and this creates situations where communication is incomplete or confusing. Instead of treating this purely as a joke, the game uses it to strengthen Lou's isolation. The player does not always receive straightforward explanations from the people encountered, making ordinary conversations feel uncertain. It is an effective example of narrative and gameplay supporting each other, because Lou's inability to understand everything around him contributes naturally to the mystery. The visual presentation is equally important to the atmosphere. The game uses digitized imagery and animated sprites inspired by the appearance of adventure games from the 1990s. Its environments are based on Tapada das Necessidades, a real park in Lisbon, which gives the backgrounds a grounded quality that contrasts effectively with the increasingly strange events. The combination of recognizable real-world scenery and intentionally retro character presentation creates an unusual visual identity. At first, the sunny park can appear inviting and peaceful, but familiar locations gradually acquire an uncomfortable character as the narrative develops. The horror works largely because it is not constantly announcing itself. Instead of beginning with darkness, monsters, or immediate danger, the game places Lou in broad daylight within what should be a relaxing environment. Suspense emerges from uncertainty and the growing realization that the situation does not behave according to ordinary expectations. The shift from romance and casual exploration toward psychological horror is handled with enough restraint that its stronger moments have greater impact. Knowing too much about the plot beforehand would significantly weaken this progression, so the experience benefits greatly from being played without spoilers. Its short duration is both an advantage and a limitation. The narrative has very little filler, and almost every interaction contributes either to the mystery, characterization, atmosphere, or eventual payoff. This gives the adventure a focused pace that suits its concept. Conversely, players expecting a lengthy campaign, numerous interconnected areas, extensive character development, or sophisticated puzzle systems will find the scope limited. It is better approached as an interactive short story than as a sprawling traditional adventure. Replay value is also naturally restricted by the story-driven design. Much of the initial appeal comes from trying to understand what is happening, and that uncertainty cannot be fully recreated after completing the story. A second playthrough can nevertheless be interesting because earlier scenes and seemingly insignificant details may take on different meanings once the player understands the larger picture. Steam achievements provide another reason to revisit the park and explore interactions that might have been missed. Steam Deck compatibility is a positive aspect for portable players. The game is currently classified as Playable on Steam Deck rather than fully Verified. Its functionality is accessible using the default controller configuration, interface text remains readable, and the default graphics configuration performs well on the handheld. SteamOS compatibility is also reported as successful. The main inconveniences are relatively minor: some prompts can display mouse, keyboard, or non-Steam-Deck controller icons, and situations involving text entry may require manually bringing up the virtual keyboard. These issues prevent a completely seamless handheld experience but do not fundamentally interfere with completing the adventure. What ultimately makes the game memorable is not mechanical complexity but its control of expectations. It takes a simple premise involving a man, a woman, and a meeting in a park and gradually reshapes that scenario into something far stranger. The real-world setting, retro graphics, language confusion, straightforward puzzles, and psychological horror all contribute to the same feeling of being somewhere that appears normal while behaving increasingly abnormally. As a compact narrative adventure, it succeeds because it recognizes its own scale and concentrates on atmosphere rather than attempting to become something larger. Players seeking extensive puzzles or a long campaign may find it too brief, but anyone interested in unconventional point-and-click adventures, mysteries, psychological horror, and experimental interactive storytelling should find it worthwhile. Its ability to generate unease from such an ordinary setting is its greatest achievement, resulting in a small but distinctive experience that leaves a stronger impression than its modest scope might suggest.
