Angels Fall First
Angels Fall First is a first person combined-arms sci-fi wargame.
AFF focuses on team-oriented tactical gameplay and objective-based scenarios with a high degree of replayability, featuring:
Wide selection of weapons and tools, ground vehicles and spacecraft to fight with.
Diverse combat opportunities - assume point to clear a building, hunt with a frigate wolfpack as a lineship captain, issue orders from the bridge of your battleship.
Fully operational and pilotable capital ships with playable interiors.
Unique combination of spaceship and infantry combat - board spacestations, shipyards and vessels to capture or destroy them from the inside.
Dogfighting using space interceptors and bombers, launched from capital ships and stations.
Gameplay mechanics designed as a mix of modern elements (customization, loadouts, persistence) and inspirations from classic shooters (frantic, fast-paced firefights).
Commander mode for issuing orders to your squadmates and teammates.
Full AI support - all scenarios can be played both offline and online identically, supporting up to 64 players or bots filling in for the players if required.
Rich science fiction universe setting.
Another space game?
Well, we've been doing this a long time - AFF has been a rich universe of fiction and art since 2005. We made a Homeworld mod, and kept building from there. Work started on an Unreal Tournament 2004 mod, but was then ported over to UT3 in 2007, culminating in a 3rd place grand prize in 2009's MakeSomethingUnreal contest.
Angels Fall First as a standalone game is, for us, a mission to enable the player to do as much as possible in a vast environment - whilst still retaining the focussed, fun experience of match based FPS games.
Way back in the back-whens, we loved Tie Fighter. A little later on, we loved Battlefield. We waited patiently for the game which would inevitably unite the vast scale and spacefights with the close and personal firefights and thunderous vehicle battles...
But it never really appeared. Many games came close, but there was always some part missing. You couldn’t get out of your spaceship, you couldn’t get into your spaceship, you had big spaceships but you couldn’t run around in them, you could run around in your big spaceship but you couldn’t fly it and so on and so forth and gahd damMIT! Where was our spacefight groundfight game?
So, we set ourselves to work. AFF exists because it MUST exist. Only in AFF can you spawn in your crew quarters, run to the bay watching the space fight out of the windows, launch a dropship, fight through the defenders to the enemy flagship, breach the hull, run and gun your way to the bridge and SHOOT THE ENEMY CAPTAIN IN THE BACK OF THE NECK.
Calm Down!
Ok. But it's this slightly twitchy passion which has driven us to create such a monster. We grew old making this, and we got grumpy watching everyone else release their cool games or whatever.
We're from a time when games were about blowing stuff up for points and glory and now FINALLY we want to go out there and share this crazy passion with all of you!

I very tentatively recommend this game, though mostly to people who are interested in playing with bots. The core gameplay mechanics are basically Halo + Battlefield, and it's cool. It looks good, it plays good, and it's fun. To play with bots. When it comes to multiplayer, the simple fact is that this game has been out for a long time, and the core player base has gotten very, very good at following a strict meta that involves stabbing you repeatedly in the face while bunny hopping around your face, making it very difficult to shoot them. I don't hold this against the game, because you'll see similar stories in basically any FPS that exists for a prolonged period of time - go try to get into Bad Company 2 multiplayer as a noob and see how that goes for you - but from the standpoint of saying "you should buy this as a fan of multiplayer FPS:" no, you probably shouldn't. Unless you feel like sinking hundreds of hours, you won't have fun. You will get stabbed in the face a lot.

Very classic inspired FPS. Reminds of the older Battlefields. There is even a commander mode. Its a bit complicated, especially the loadout system, its better to modefy the default loadouts instead creating a whole host of new ones. Even the Vehicles have loadouts. There is a ground and a space mode. I like the ground mode with vehicles the most, its pretty big fights that allow for all kinds of playstyles. I like heavy armor with a machine gun, but I've seem players zip and zoom around too. The space one has you fly around in a space ship the lion part of the time - its not my cup of tea, there is boarding tho and fighing in a space station is wonderful, you can even see the fight outside through the windows! You can use all the weapons and equipment from the start, the progression is out of the way, only enhancing how much stuff you can take with you. It also runs pretty well on linux mint, which is always a plus.

Unfortunately, as of august 2026, the game has died. it has no campaign, so there's sadly nothing else but endless CTF and CP matches to play with bots. It's fun with a full server, but the peak is about 62 now. HOPE IT GETS BETTER

I love this game. Is it perfect? nope. Do i have fun while playing? absolutely! I mostly play against AI with my friends, so i can't say if its balance PvP wise. But PvE wise, we are having fun :D

A hard thumb-up. Nope, not that "hard", actually hard - difficult. + Good - The game delivers exactly what it promised - You have a big ass battlefield filled with both high and low tech weaponry, paired with tons of modification, allowing you to express builds and your playstyle (!) - Maps are HUGE - compared to Planetside, Battlefields. - Space combat is insanely fun. Last time I had this much fun going around shooting and getting shot at was Elite Dangerous. The physic is nothing to write home about, but it is simplified enough that even new players can have a fair shot at driving these absolute gunship units and still manage to wreak havoc on. - You can drive those big ass Cruiser class ships that HAVE INTERIORS (YES I REPEAT WALKABLE, BREACHABLE, SHOOTABLE, INTERACTABLE interiors!!!) - Excellent bot support. They actually put up a very good fight, with flanking, adapting tactic and respond with their own. + Neutral - Dated graphic - UE3, in devlopment for decades (dated back in 2007, mind you!) - Dwindling playerbase. Not my problem since I've just been playing with some of my boys and riding with the bots, but you will barely see any active server outside the "active" hours. - Optimization is okayish, run at 60fps with a fuil bot server. Not bad at all, but I've seen better. - UI takes some time to get used - saying it is unintuitive is a massive underestimation. + Bad. Terrible, even - Balancing (!). If you are mostly playing with bots or small group of frens, again, not a big deal. Hopping on big public active servers? Says hello to my little knife. The balance can get so bad you either become basically a ninja with +800 movement speed or an tanky infantry that somehow has HP rivals that of vehicles. Ridiculous. - Serious bugs. I've had 2 crashes happened, massive rendering bugs on both Dx11 and Dx9, numerous glitches. The devs are active at fixing and developing, however they take a lot of time. - Overall rough around the edge. UI is terrible, Animation can be janky, netcode is...., and other small things but I would be nitpicking at this point. - The UI is ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ terrible, seriously it is the most unintuitive UI I've ever seen, the UI is so bad it can rivals the like of X3, X4 (why all space games have their UI suck ass though?) I definitely had a lots of fun with this game. I'm not saying that you need to steer clear from this game (hence the thumb-up), but in it current state the game is very rough right now. Give it a bit more time, see if the devs can cook up something great. Until then, leave it on your wishlist.

I bought this game thinking it was the modern equivalent to Planetside 2, I played through the tutorials and joined a public game and played for a bit. As I was playing I noticed I was killing a lot of AI and not many players, needless to say I checked steam charts and realised I am late to the party as this game has been dead for over a month and has barely scraped 20 players in the last week. From the limited time I played this game it does seem to have some potential however, with nobody to play against, its just boring. The devs fell a bit short with marketing along with the graphics being a 2000s retro style, not being instantly appealing to some people just ends up leaving the game dead and lifeless.

I feel a bit sorry for the devs after all the effort they have put into this game. I feel like they got into this project over their heads. It's too dated and clunky for a 2026 release. This could've been a banger somewhere in the 2000-2005 era (apart from the much better graphics ofcourse).

Dev team worked on it for AGES - I think they pushed it out to move on. Is a neat game with terrible execution. Shame really. Had high hopes.
