Is the game bad? No. Are there a lot of questionable decisions? Yes. I'd wait for a discount. The game recommends Cinematic Mode (cutscenes locked to 24 fps; turn it off. It's super janky) and some options turned on by default are pretty bad. Depth of Field causes a lot of artifacts when trying to place things into focus and is better off disabled. There's plenty of other tweaking to preference you may end up doing in the settings. The biggest offender at the moment is the camera. Weirdly closed in can't really be changed. Does not work well for giant fights. I'm sure nexus mods have many tweaks and fixes available now for people who are badly bothered by it. Other than that the combat starts off basic but your later skills provide a lot of additional movesets and it does get fun. I do appreciate that skills are tied to your stats just because it kind of forces people to not braindead dump into strength and instead choose a build to preference. Music is really good as well. Art direction is fantastic. Definitely Nier automata vibes. There's a lot of patches that will assuredly come in and fix some issues, worst case nexus mod will fix said issues if just much earlier than gamefreak will. Just wait for a discount. -- Edit: It seems the game is being brigaded with a lot of nonsense and very little is actually being talked about the game so I'd like to add some information that I figure may be helpful. - It's not a souls game, it does have parrying mechanics but with later skills the parrying almost becomes a suggestion. It's best to treat it like a jrpg. There are a lot of story heavy moments and you'll probably get called back to base often to progress rapport with your team mates often but if you're into that you're going to like this game. - The world is apocalyptic. One of the complaints I see often is the game isn't alive and full of npcs to the level of grand theft auto. If you aren't of mind to explore a world that keeps getting its civilization wiped out by an angry poodle of some sort every 100 years then you're going to have a bad time. - I personally think the story has been very engaging. Yes, the character is dull. That's a part of the story. There is growth in that regard. I love it. There's so much mystery thrown out at you and you look up and you'll have even more questions. It's got me hooked. - The combat is dull and stiff if you choose to make it dull and stiff. That is the default, you keep that kind of combo if you're going to be a level 1 purist. Build into vitality and start learning to throw that hair back and forth and get those aerial combos in and you're going to have a lot of fun. Or build into strength and raise that gauge for chain combos. Or just focus on your gun. You have options and none of them are bad, unless you want to be a level 1 purist like all these negative reviews I guess. On an additional note I find parrying to be very responsive and on point. I love the satisfaction of getting that wild 5 hit combo down in rhythm from some of the later deranged mobs. Dodging Red * skills is extremely forgiving and much easier to do than working with the parry system. I think they got the combat locked down very well. - There seems to be consistent negative reviews that the game doesn't look hyperrealistic as there should be a required expectation that they cannot discern reality from between the game and their mom's bedroom. From my personal experience with my attached specs I run it highest 60fps perfectly fine with graphics similar to ff7 remake/rebirth/clair obscur. I did have to tweak settings including turning depth of field off because it didn't just blur out of focus objects, it made in focus objects janky and pixelated. It just doesn't work. The camera is an issue they need to fix, that's as far as negativity goes for graphics. Gameplay I find is still fine even with the semi-booty locked camera. Let me be clear: If you're expecting elden ring 2 or gta 6 then you're going to have a bad time. If you're expecting a lightweight sekiro/nier automata that you have to screw around in settings a bit with then you're going to love this game. Story's great and it's been an atmospheric trip so far. It's a shame it's stuck in the 50% range at the time of this review because I honestly believe this game is not getting fair representation but I suppose it was bound to happen.

So after finally completing Beast Of Reincarnation, this game barely and i mean BARELY gets a positive rating. Steam has no inbetween rating so I want to make it clear this game is directly smack in the middle in terms of a rating. Let me explain. Pros: Graphics: The game is very nice looking. It has its moments where it has weird texture glitches and looks a little blurry, but overall its a very nice looking game. Nothing super exceptional, but definitely not anything bad. The world itself is interesting to look at and explore, beautiful buildings, nature etc. Music: The music in the game is pretty good. Its pretty obvious they are going for the stellar blade vibe with the sound track, especially the camp music and overall world ambience. You will notice it almost immediately. The battle music is very good and overall its pretty decent soundtrack. Gameplay: This game takes a long time to ramp up and unlock a bunch of stuff, but once you do it is very very good. The battle system is well done, multiple enemy weaknesses to exploit and strategize around. Different combos and skills similiar to DMC to unlock and use that all do different things. Once you unlock a lot of the skills combat really gets fantastic. Koo provides some extra strategizing, using koo's abilities with your own to create combos and openings to exploit. Theres weapon upgrades, both ranged and melee, food cooking etc. The gameplay is solid, it just takes a while to get there, which is why this review is a middle review. Weapons: There is a ton of weapons/swords in this game. Gamefreak essentially took their elemental system behind pokemon and instead of multiple pokemon of different types, you get multiple swords of different types. Lightning, fire, poison, etc. Each with their pros and cons. Some swords even combine "types", very similiar to multi type pokemon. You can see the inspiration. Cons: Very little enemy variety: I am not kidding when I say you will be fighting the same enemies the entire game. There is so few enemy variety, you can see gamefreak decided to utilize their famous copy and paste skills here. It gets extremely boring very quickly. What makes it worse, is these enemies do the same moves over and over. Different melee enemies? All pretty much have the same mechanics. You memorize all of it very quickly and before you know it, enemies become a joke very early on. Repeat Bosses: The bosses in this game are a joke. When you have other games like stellar blade, souls games, even the recent mortal shell 2...all these bosses are epic, with varied different skill sets and THIS game bosses do the SAME ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ MOVES over and over. And when i say moves, i am saying 1 or 2 moves max for most of them. Not only that, they want to extend the nushi bosses as much as possible, so alot of them run when you first fight them, making you have to fight them again. New round? Nothing changes. Same moves. One nushi I fought, I am not kidding, did the same tail swipe and ONLY the same tail swipe, the ENTIRE fight. The SAME ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ TAIL SWIPE. Over and over and over and over, till it died. These nushi are basically bigger versions of regular mobs. It is so uninspired, so boring and overall extremely disappointing. The games story bosses, based on characters in the game, are way better done HOWEVER, are still bosses that repeat the same 2-3 moves over and over and over again until death. It was a massive let down. These bosses are some of the most pathetic designed bosses Ive ever seen for a game like this. Extremely stiff movement: This game has extremely stiff movement to the point where you can literally feel how trapped you are. It is not smooth whatsoever. When you explore the world the amount of times you are caught on terrain, glitch moving after landing because you hit a corner, its pretty bad. Stellar blade had stiff movement, but nowhere near like this. Camera pre patch: The game released with one of the worst cameras ive seen for a game like this. They finally somewhat fixed it in a recent patch, but releasing the game with a super zoomed in camera like they did, with the speed this game is trying to achieve, was a massive design overlook and im glad they somewhat addressed it. It's not perfect, but the patch did help. Random Puddle Deaths: The game has very shallow creeks and such in the world to explore, but apparently stepping in random parts of those creeks, means you fall into the atlantic ocean apparently and die/reset....yeah i dont get it. Story: The game has very interesting premises and a pretty interesting world building that happens over 13 chapters. However, it takes extremely long for it to get anywhere (I wasnt interested till chapter 9) and then once it finally starts to get interesting, it falls on its face at the end as to the reasoning why all of this is happening. I just kind of face palmed at that point. Overall Beast Of Reincarnation is a extremely mid experience that barely gets a pass into positive due to the late game combat, builds and experience overall. I am extremely disappointed in this game and really felt like it could have been so much better, This is a literal 5/10 for me. Extremely mid and extremely average with just enough to say on steams review rating "yes", but with a extreme caveat of...wait for a mega sale on this game and then your money will be worth it. Thanks for reading.

I just finished Beast of Reincarnation after around 26 hours. I still plan to go for 100% completion and replay it on the new difficulty, but I'll probably wait for a few patches before doing so. First of all, I want to make something clear: Beast of Reincarnation is nowhere near as bad as some people on social media make it out to be. Does it have issues? Absolutely. Quite a few, actually. But it's definitely not a bad game. Its biggest strength, in my opinion, is its story. It becomes more and more captivating as you progress through the chapters, especially after a certain "turning point" around Chapter 7 or 8. From that point onward, I became much more invested in what was happening, and some moments genuinely hit me emotionally, all the way to an epilogue that I found really satisfying. And thank God this isn't an open-world game, because i honestly might not have finished it otherwise. I think the more linear, zone-based structure used by games like Stellar Blade or Black Myth: Wukong fits this kind of experience much better. It keeps the game moving forward without filling the world with unnecessary distractions. The gameplay is also very enjoyable and gradually gets better as you progress. As you unlock more options and get used to its systems, combat becomes much more satisfying. That being said, there are definitely some negatives. Performance-wise, the game ran very well for me, but visually it's a bit inconsistent. It can look really nice at times, but there are noticeable texture issues in some environments, and certain areas could have used a lot more polish. The soundtrack was also a slight disappointment for me. It's not bad, but considering the game's setting and atmosphere, I expected something much more memorable. There isn't enough variety, and some tracks loop a little too much for my taste. The bosses are probably one of my biggest disappointments. Most of them are pretty underwhelming, especially because many have what is technically a second phase, but their patterns barely change. You expect the fight to evolve and become more challenging, but most of the time... it just doesn't. As a result, the challenge is almost nonexistent. Beast of Reincarnation really isn't a difficult game in that regard. The enemy variety is also fairly limited, and some of the areas feel like they could have been much more polished and developed. Basically, if you start looking for flaws, you'll definitely find plenty of things that could have been improved. But considering this is Game Freak's first attempt at this kind of game, I'm still satisfied with the result. My overall feeling after finishing it is that I genuinely loved my time with Beast of Reincarnation despite its flaws. I think the story carries a lot of the experience for me, but it carried it well enough that I ended up becoming much more attached to the game than I expected. If I'm being critical, I'd give it a solid **6.5/10**. Despite its issues, I still recommend giving Beast of Reincarnation a chance. It's far from perfect, but the journey, and especially its story, is an experience worth having.

I'd give this game 'neutral' if I could. I do not think it deserves 'Not recommended' but it's also nowhere near GOTY. Solid 6/10. Let's start with the bad things first: 1. Writing of the dialogues is HORRIBLE. Most of the convo goes like that: > Emma? > Yes? > Oh. > What's wrong? > Nothing. > I see. > I will go now. > Oh ok. > Goodbye. > Goodbye. And loop it 100 times, add no ability to skip unnecessary cutscenes that LITERALLY COULD BE AN EMAIL and you end up sitting 10 minutes in front of your monitor to just find out a thing that could be said in 1 sentence. I understand they wanted to showcase how empty/non-emotional our protagonist is, but this is too much. Kills the vibe for me, kills the pacing, I end up being frustrated because I am forced to hear again 'Oh, ok.' and 'I see' without ability to skip it somehow (spamming space doesn't help). Whoever wrote the dialogues - I think you are just bad at your job and please go read some books or watch movies or read fanfics or at least talk to the people outside of the office to work on your dialogue skill. 2. Same 4-7 monsters to kill, no big variety. You end up killing the same bear, the same deer, the same golem over and over again. 3. Music is forgettable as well. 4. Lot of interesting, hidden places to explore that end up having zero rewards/chests/lore. What was the point of making them then? Have you not expected I will climb that cool building or find this cave? Good things: 1. I dig the theme and I find it beautiful, especially the main bosses. Design is cool! 2. I like the hub mechanic, with showering ur dog, rising chickens and planting seeds. 3. Abilities are kinda cool and I like the fights! 4. Koo. In the end, 6/10 and I don't regret playing it, I am enjoying it and can't wait to finish it. But please, for the next game hire another dialogue writer.

Every writing trope I hate is here. One thing I'll say is that most of the initial impressions people have of the combat are correct. Bosses will always only ever have three moves, before having four moves in their phase 2. You will only ever fight the same 10 normal enemies throughout the game. You will fight copy paste bosses throughout the story, with one even showing up four whole times without any moveset changes. But god, I just really want to harp on one particular aspect. There are so many amateur writing tropes here that I've noticed are becoming extremely common in modern fiction writing. - The "who the hell are you talking to?", where a character tells another character something they already know in great detail, exclusively for the audience's sake. - The "♥♥♥♥ it", where the writer's answer to the eternal question of 'how do I deliver information to the viewer' most writers struggle with is to go "eeeeeh they'll just say it directly to the audience." - The "subtle thinker", where a character will loudly mumble something vaguely significant (sometimes directly into the radio) before hastily saying "nvm, ignore it" when somebody tries to actually follow up with them because drama. - The "You just said this", where a character will repeat information they said about seven seconds ago. - The "rushed monologue", where a character who otherwise really didn't have much space in the plot will spend most of a fight and their dying breaths reciting exactly what their motivations, aspirations, and regrets are so you feel sympathy for them. - The "be sad now", where they barely do work in developing character relationships, but still have a scene that only works if they did. - The "one sided conversation", where one character's entire contribution to the current talk is to repeat something the other person says but with a question mark or an ellipses attached to it. (This did actually happen in one of this game's scenes.) - The "oh ♥♥♥♥", where almost nothing happens for 3/4 of the story before everything happens in the last 1/4. - The "oh ♥♥♥♥ part 2", where they realize they haven't actually answered any questions in the narrative, so they'll just deluge you with exposition in the last 1/4. - The "oh ♥♥♥♥ part 3" where they just spam the ♥♥♥♥ out of plot devices to force characters into their designated spots. Have I mentioned the last quarter of the game? My god, this game has the worst version of it I've ever seen. One level consists of a character monologuing the entire backstory of the game at you in terms that would only confuse the rest of the cast. At one point, they literally lock you into a room so you have to listen to an exposition dump. The final boss says "I want to tell you something" and recites why he's doing what he's doing. And in the midst of this, characters will repeat information ad nauseum. At one point, one piece of information was delivered three different ways all in the same 30 second audio log. I was losing my mind. And none of the character based emotional climaxes worked for me either, probably because the characters were having the exact same conversation with the nouns swapped for 10 hours beforehand. It felt like their relationship was completely static until the writers decided to start the final sprint. All for a story that you could probably have guessed coming from a mile away if you played Nier or watched a decent number of post-apocalyptic sci-fi anime. Personally, I got some minutiae wrong, but pretty much nailed the overall idea to the point where I was completely unsurprised by the numerous twists they kept dropping. Here's the thing, though. Sometimes, a piece of media has really good ideas or a pretty decent plot outline, but annoyingly, I've noticed this being interpreted more and more as good writing. It can be entertaining writing, but no. Anybody can have good ideas and anybody can outline a plot. Just look on any writing subreddit. There's thousands of first chapters and people who have thought out every political intricacy and magic system and who bangs who in their world without writing a single word because writing's hard. I wrote plot outlines of what happens when and why when I was 13. Hell, my five year old nephew makes up imaginary stories all the time. Writing's a perpetual problem solving exercise, and true masters are the ones that have gotten so used to solving those problems in so many different scenarios that they can do it in their sleep. How do I move characters from A to B so the plot thing I have in mind can happen? How do I build the relationships between these characters so I can pay it off in this amazing scene I've thought of that takes place late in the story? How do I make this character exposite without it sounding like I just stuffed my hand up their ass and turned them into my sock puppet? How do I progress the plot in a natural way? If the answer to all these questions is: "black screen", "I won't", "I won't", and "two characters will talk over a black screen", then no. The writing isn't good.
