Broken Reality (the first game) is a great walking simulator/collecting game carried by its presentation and aesthetic. Broken Reality 2000 tries to move away from this by packing more mechanics and quests into the game but at the expense of that same presentation. The narrative isn't any more cohesive, the characters aren't really interesting, and the modern references to AI and crypto don't add anything new to the worldbuilding. I'm still amazed that your main tool, the Liker, is just an ugly 3d model instead of the nice pixel-art one from the first game. With graphical glitches and a worse soundtrack, there isn't anything new or unique enough about this game to warrant its full price, especially since the new mechanics aren't fun enough to carry a game. Broken Reality 1 is a 10/10 game that definitely stands on its own, and you should play that instead.

man this really sucks leaving this review but man...I adored the first game for its aesthetics, atmosphere, and cute but simple gameplay. I even bought it for 2 other friends to watch them play it. I had been waiting for this game for a while and now that I have it.....its just...sad. it feels so much worse than the previous game, the feel of it all is just.....i don't want to say lazy but it feels off in comparison. and it starts immediately too, the absolute ear destroying start up screen that you cannot turn down the volume of to the first item which was in the first game, being a gross looking 3d model instead of the cute pixel one. but all of that aside, the biggest issues is the CONSTANT soft locking. I use controller for this ( not that using pure keyboard has helped much ) because this isn't a difficult to control game but during dialogue sequences it will just get to the end of a line of dialogue and then NOTHING and I mean nothing allows you to continue, nothing on controller, nothing on my keyboard, or my mouse progresses it, so you're stuck staring at this NPC forever, and oh boy isn't it wonderful that there is no autosave feature so here is hoping you don't have to redo 20 min of gameplay. overall this is a horribly disappointing game and I hope their next game is more genuine and more polished.

I just beat this game after about 10 hours and got both ending. Ultimately I'd really recommend this game. If you enjoy weird walking sims about collecting things in very interesting environments then I think you'd have a blast with this game. That's not to say this game isn't a bit rough around the edges and at times a bit janky. Some of the puzzles are a bit tedious and a fair amount of the quests in the game could be described as fetch quests with more steps. But the overall experience is really unique. At the end I thought I had seen everything, but I kept finding more and more secret areas. That last area nearly tore me to shreds emotionally with the music and theming. During the past ending, the moment I realized the area was a replica of the first game's starting area I was really taken back. I definitely think some of the areas from this game are going to live rent free in my mind palace for a long time.

This is basically more of the same from the first Broken Reality game. I'd say I prefer the visual style, characters and story of the first game. The main highlights of this new Broken Reality 2000 are the new mechanics (such as the bow, hoverboard and the improved camera and katana) and the new locations to explore. There are also collectibles to unlock the true ending, and skins for your tools. I will mention that this game is very buggy. Sometimes you'll go throw walls, or sequence-break some parts. Or maybe you'll get stuck, and the "unstuck" button won't get you out. And the last area (Cloud) is extremely buggy and slow paced, and it has very frustrating puzzles and respawn points. But yeah, overall, it's a nice surreal 2000's inspired walking sim with some decent quests, puzzles and jokes. It has some downsides, but I liked most of my time with this game and its progression (the biggest exception was the last area).

The original Broken Reality was a clunky and immature love letter to the old internet that perfectly captured the sense of wonder and nostalgia surrounding it. It wasn't a perfect game by any means, but its art direction, music choice, and personality shaped it to be one of my favorite games of all time. This game.... didn't learn at all from its previous installment. All of the initial gameplay flaws are still there, amplified further through added gameplay complexity. Now, that would have been fine if the art/story direction matched the original, but it falls completely flat on its face. The first game combined maps inspired by various subgenres of vaporwave (and the vibes they captured) into one big whole. This game almost does the same thing, except instead of going for musical themes, it feels like it was based on a shallow scroll through the Aesthetics Wiki. Almost none of the areas feel interesting to explore, and they're further dragged down by annoying fetch quests that serve little to no narrative purpose. The amount of reused assets is also egregious, making you feel like you're doing the same quests/activities with the same characters just with different background maps. I'm really bummed about this game, as you can certainly still feel an inkling of the passion that made the first game as phenomenal as it was. But, it's all shrouded under poor game design and lazy art direction. I wouldn't say I'm hardly against anyone playing this game, but if you do, please keep a walkthrough ready in the background to save yourself a lot of frustration.

This is a tough recommend, decent game, bad sequel. The first game came out at the height of vaporwave's popularity (which I miss) and had an interesting story about the death of the old internet. It feels like this game wants to say something about the modern internet culture but never quite does. NFTs and AI only get a few mentions and no real critique beyond "Aren't Techbros kinda silly ?" Also surprising lack of politics in the area called Grifton, expected to see more incels and chuds. Others have explained this more eloquently than I could. For what it's worth it's a fun enough walking simulator though.

This is a game I so badly wish I can give an average review for, neither fully positive nor negative. I played the first game back in 2024, loved it, had some issues with backtracking but everything else was very fun. This one, I feel like the backtracking problem was even worse, and the camera photo sections giving likes led to ending up not focusing on the game itself and just making sure I scan everything for the correct photo spot. The story, I think, was much less... prominent? There? I got the ending without the medallions and was interested in the ERROR character but she didn't seem to say a single thing, and the 'True' ending didn't really say anything at all either. There was very little character interaction compared to the first game.. As it is, I think the music is awesome, the environment design is wonderful and a facet of a time online that I'm personally deeply nostalgic for. I had a great time with the overall game, I just feel like it's lacking in a lot of areas that I would rather have seen more fleshed out.
