Umihara Kawase??? Lots of replay-ability just in the branching paths and level creator alone but also if you like competing against others for best times with an amazing replay system that lets you view others runs. Also lots of collectibles and fun challenges thrown in on top of everything else.

I'm struggling with this game. I want to like it so bad... the world structure and base mechanics are cool... but there is just so much jank. Some of the movement tech is just horribly inconsistent, like wall climbing/jumping, and the slingshot tech. Some of the in-game achievements are weirdly cheeseable, like the Farm Cat/Cowabunga ones early on--and there's a Cowabunga cheevo in the RetroAchievements set that isn't even for the same conditions. Lots of very weird choices here, and it seems like the physics of this game weren't made to suit the good ideas the game has. It's also got some strange art choices... everything looks pretty but the cursor is a giant imprecise paw and there are mixels here and there. I want to keep going but am honestly so torn on this one. It could be polished and be a good game, but right now, it's not quite there.

This game is amazing! Cattopia is an umihara-like, and if you don't know what that is, it's basically a grapple-based physics platformer where you use your stretchy fishing line to fling yourself around levels. It's incredibly fun, takes everything good about the series and modernizes it in a way that makes it have a TON of replay value. It is a difficult game and will challenge you throughout, but is well worth learning the ropes. Every main level has at least one challenge that gets you to interact with the level in a different restricted way. These challenges are very well tuned and creative and I had a blast going through them. There's also a level editor which is super robust and easy to use, allowing players to create whole campaigns with their own challenges and speedrun times. Speaking of speedrun times, the game has an extremely well done built-in replay system to make chasing top times a lot more entertaining. There's even a hidden unlockable for beating all of the developer times! Good Luck! Music and graphics are amazing as well; this is definitely way up there for my game of the year in 2026. And for the price, it's WELL worth it.

At times extremely difficult game that is extremely unforgiving. It is simply not fun for me to have to replay the previous 10 - 20 levels to get back to the level I was struggling with. Why is the only way to progress with a pretty limited amount of lives? It incentives getting coins to get more lives in a cool way sure but quite frankly this game is too difficult for me to enjoy with having to have lives to progress. Outside of the difficulty and immense frustration I have gotten from the precision required in these levels, this game feels extremely cheap. You can tell this was by one person with little help and it was that person's first game. Graphically this just feels like something you would find as a ripoff of another game on mobile. Though seeing how this is heavily based off of an obscure PS1 title. The theming of the levels is fairly generic here, nothing really wowed me here too. The whole game feels like it is playing extremely safe graphically here which is a shame because the core gameplay here can lead to some really cool things here. On that note, this game does control really well! It takes a long time to get used to but it feels really good once you get used to it! I would enjoy this concept a lot more if it wasnt so punishing! Highly difficult indie games like this usually don't have lives after all! If having lives was the default option I probably would push through this game and see all it has to offer but right now I have game overed one too many times and it feels far too punishing to try to master. Other indie games that are this difficult give far more leniency for a reason! It isnt 1998 anymore people dont have the patience for this level of brutal punishing gameplay anymore, and that is saying something because I love old games and play them without save states and try to go for 100% on a lot of them! But this is just a few steps too far. I hope the dev is able to learn from this game and either improve what is already here in future updates or improve on the formula in a future project. There is something special here with the controls and how much speed tech there is but a lot more polish could go a long way.

This is a love letter to a set for Umihara Kawase Shun, addictive but difficult to master.

Played this live a bit earlier today, it does not joke around that the game is DIFFICULT but in a way that learning how to pull off the levels and traverse them feels overall quite satisfying! Nice little gem of an indie to explore.

Good as hell. Expects some familiarity with the Umihara Kawase games so beware this game will pull no punches. The visuals and music are very cute too.
