I really enjoyed this game at first, but once you get to the point where you can expand the kitchen and do more complex recipes, the horrible design of this game just becomes unbearable. And after not playing for a few months, I find it impossible to go back to the game, because nothing works in a way that makes sense and doing the most basic things are so utterly frustrating and teadious. I worked in an actual restaurant kitchen for a few years and this game is a far more horrible and frustrating experience than all the time I spent in that kitchen. On the basic level, the cooking tries to be semi-realistic and there's a lot of recipes to start with, which you can arrange and present mostly as you wish, as well as the (very limited) ability to make your own recipes. Sadly everything else is terribly poorly implemented and incredibly frustrating. It's also worth noting that the game sells itself as a restaurant simulator, but you don't have much to do with the actual restaurant whatsoever. Sure you can change a couple colours, switch between three different layouts, and swap a lamp for a plant, but otherwise the restaurant runs itself and you're stuck in the kitchen the entire time, fighting the controls and interface while trying to make a meal. All the normal admin that comes from running a business is overly simplified or doesn't exist at all, which means it is so not a restaurant simulator, or even a kitchen simulator, since it only really covers cooking, but then Cooking Simulator is a different far more horrid game. The first problem we run into when starting the game is the horrid control scheme, because the game was badly made for gamepad and lacks proper mouse support. So the keys you have to press are weird and inconsistent, and you typically cannot use the mouse for basic interactions where normal people would use a mouse and not the keyboard (or anything else). Then comes Kasim, your obnoxious sous chef who won't shut up, whom you cannot fire even though he's constantly out of line and makes costly management decisions without consulting you. He also cannot cook anything at the start of the game, which makes me wonder why this moron is in my kitchen. He does learn to do basic tasks after a while (if you let him), but this is supposed to be a restaurant simulator, not a cooking class simulator, so this part makes no sense. Then we have to buy ingredients, which requires phoning in your orders, because your suppliers don't have internet and yet somehow all use the same delivery service and have their shop on the same route. In other words: The devs clearly have no clue how a restaurant works in the 21st century and don't realize that no sane person orders their supplies at the last minute before the resturant opens. When your order arrives, it magically appears in your stock room, but oh, you cannot use the ingredients from there. No, you have to collect them all and carry them around the corner to shove them into the next fridge. Which is not how restaurants work. Next we get to the actual cooking, which involves a lot of dumb QTE (which you thankfully can automate, but this crap really is superfluous). The steps sort of follow real recipes, but take 100 times longer than real cooking thanks to the QTE and absurd control scheme. If you don't disable the customer impatience, you won't be able to serve anyone before they give up waiting and leave. Some things you can set going and do something else (like running the mixer or baking stuff in the oven), but the vast majority of the cooking requires you to babysit the appliance and that's problematic when you have to serve 3-4 different dishes to the same table. When you have to chop an onion, a tomato, and a garlic (because you for some reaon always have to use an entire garlic for a single serving), you cannot queue the tasks, but have to do each one individually at a slow pace. Most things you cannot prep before the restaurant opens and everything will disappear if you try. Which again makes no sense and is not how restaurants work. In order to open the restaurant, you also have to walk up to the front door and click it yourself, because you cannot tell any of your nameless waiters to do it for you. Because why would we want the management to make sense? Once the restaurant is opened, the gate closes and locks and you're not allowed to leave the kitchen under any circumstance. Sorry, but this is my restaurant and I'm not allowed to leave the kitchen? Yes, we're not allowed to talk to the customers or check on how the actual dining room is doing. We're trapped in the kitchen until the restaurant closes, which is just absurd and again shows the devs have no idea how a restaurant functions. Once you've suffered through the cooking, you can modify how it's plated before handing it over to your starving customers, by changing the plates and organizing each part of the meal on said plate. This feature is neat and the only part of the game that's really well done, with a ton of options and freedom to get creative. It's almost like the devs spent all their time working on this feature and couldn't figure out how to make a proper game around it. But speaking of putting stuff on plates, when customers order something, all you get is an icon representing the dish and then you're supposed to remember what that is and what all the ingredients are that goes into that dish, in what order, because the game is very, very bad at helping you cook anything. For most tasks you only have tiny images and icons, and lack proper tooltips or explanation. And this brings us back to the lack of mouse support: you can't simply mouse over anything and get a tooltip to tell you what it is, nor is there any text on any icon whatsoever, and especially with the stuff in the dairy cooler it's very easy to mix things up because they look alike. Lastly we have the problem that the game tries to force you to care about sustainability by penalizing you in various ways on the finances and reputation if you don't buy from the most expensive local producers. And yet you throw out entire plates because they're dirty and the dishwasher is just a decoration and don't actually work, which is anything but sustainable. The one thing we don't need in games is devs trying to shove their moral agenda into our faces. While sustainability is something we all should care about, this is a game and there are much better ways to include such concepts. Also, your typical customer does not care whatsoever where the food comes from. They do however care about the price, quality and taste. Yes, in the supermarket you have customers who will single out the expensive organic option and will only buy cucumbers that are the right shade of green, but in a restaurant your typical customer accepts that they have no control over such things and are just happy that they don't have to cook the meal themselves.

WARNING ACHIEVEMENT HUNTERS! There is one achievement "Chef, Yes Chef!" in this game that is unobtainable. IF YOU DONT CARE ABOUT ACHIEVS: This is a great cooking sim/management game to sink some time into. There are plenty of recipes ranging from simple to very complex, a robust progression system, and great visuals. There is more than enough gameplay to justify the price- would recommend for you. Other than the achievement issue I really enjoyed this game, but this achievement being such a long grind and being insanely buggy entirely destroyed my enjoyment. Each attempt of this achievement takes an absolute minimum of around 4 1/2 hours. I have spent unironically at least 40 of my hours in this game making attempts at this achievement. I have followed multiple guides speculating different ways to proc this achievement. I just don't think its obtainable on some saves at this point. Once I finish the rest of the achievements on my original save, I will try to obtain it on a new one, but this has been a highly reported problem in discussions for a while now and we have not seen any bug fix or clarification on the achievement to my knowledge.

I made it to Day 10 in my Save and i just rage quit becuase thats the longest Ill stomach my prep work being deleted going into service. Id make Pasta prep work put it on the heating lamps and I'd look at the lamps after the opening loading screen and the food is gone, Im not sure If its a bug or a game design either way. It's not fun having my prep work gone

The game itself and how to make the dishes was reeeeallly fun, but everything else about the game was just SO BAD. Tutorial mentions NOTHING about all these icons and stuff like Responsibility except that they exist. Ok but like what do they mean????? Some of the stuff just makes no sense like it tells you to put the pot of green beans on the pot warmer but you have to put the pot back on the stove in order to take green beans out?????????? you cant just take them from the pot itself????? its makes no sense. I was really struggling with everything this game was trying to explain to me. Just so horribly set up. The plate set up also had ZERO tutorial which was arguably the most complicated part. It just said, ok here you go figure it out. I had a lot of fun making the dishes and stuff, but the QoL and bad set up of mechanics finally made me quit.
