Clicker Heroes

This game was played in its entirety on a MacBook Air M1 8gb ram 7c gpu running MacOS Sonoma. There were no bugs or crashes throughout my time with the game. All achievements unlocked at their appropriate times. This is the first thousand hour plus idle game I've completed (of several). These are difficult to review, I'm discovering, because most of what is important in video games is not very important for idlers. The graphics are fine. The sounds might have been okay but I heard them once, a long time ago, and never again. The creatures are cute and the gameplay is simple and relaxing. You know what you're getting into with these games. They don't respect your time, of course, but that's the point. The guild system here is interesting and fairly unique among idlers, but in practice I found it to be more cumbersome to deal with the systems with others than to just run my own personal guild. I guess the only thing that really requires and deserves discussion is the monetization of the game, which I would categorize as simultaneously the best and worst possible monetization I have seen. You know what we are dealing with here: the purchase of an intermediary currency which is never quite enough to buy anything on its own due to the prices of both the gems and the items. The game does have one outright purchase (without gems) that doubles all of your income forever. It's not expensive and it helps. I imagine this as the purchase price of the game, and I was willing to pay. The rest of the monetization is objectively the worst, because everything costs so much. But, it's subjectively the best for the same reason! Let me explain (and my currency is USD). You earn a good amount of currency just by playing the game. Towards the end, an average once-a-day pop in could easily net me $5 or more in currency. On the other hand, the prices for things continue to increase. I had a mercenary that survived way past the level 25 mark (which was required for an achievement) and when she died, it would have cost me nearly three million dollars (in my USD currency) to ressurect her. She also could have died within minutes again after resurrection (it's random). I'm not exagerrating. You would actually have to be a millionaire (at least in American currency) to be able to pay that cost. These two factors together cause any rational, sane person to never want to spend any money in this game (beyond the initial doubler price). So, in that aspect, I feel that the monetization works perfectly as advertised. Thanks for coming to my idle review. I know these aren't the most exciting.

100% Achievement Review: Based on my experience completing all the (available) achievements. Feel free to follow my Steam Curator & Youtube Channel for more 100% reviews, videos & achievement content! Title: Clicker Heroes Summary: Incremental idler game Personal notes: Clicker Heroes is a free-to-play clicker game where you fight (click on) monsters, earn gold, buy upgrades and then fight stronger monsters, but really you just want number to go BRRRR. It's incredibly simple, and while that sounds incredibly boring, I can't really say it doesn't work! Think cookie clicker but with monsters. At least I did as that was the most similiar experience I had going into this. As mentioned briefly above, The gameplay is extremely straightforward. You start by clicking on monsters yourself, earning gold, and using that gold to buy various Heroes. Before long you're mostly just upgrading them and unlocking new ones until you unlock Ascension. Which resets your progress in exchange for permanent bonuses. This reset/run system is probably the biggest reason the game can keep you playing for so long. It's a pretty good progression loop for an idle game, although there isn't a whole lot of depth beyond that. Eventually you're mostly just letting the game run idle. Moving on to the world, it is pretty nonexistant other than some small art for the general location so there's not really anything to judge here. The visuals are pretty simple, but I think it works for what its trying to do. Everything has that cartoon look which works pretty well, plus the monsters and heroes have some fun designs! Story-wise there is not much going on though. You are just going through areas killing monsters. There are some fun designs, but I definitely wouldn't say you're playing Clicker Heroes for its characters or story, you are here to watch the number increase. The audio is simple as well. Nothing stood out to me and it ended up muted but for this game I think that's okay. I prefer when Idle games don't become a jumbled mess of audio as progress goes on. Achievement-wise, Clicker Heroes is stupid time consuming, even for idle games. Pretty much every single achievement is just locked behind a time wall. My completion took close to 1000hrs, which is a CRAZY amount of time! With most of that time being me just letting the game run, coming back later, buying upgrades, and doing the same thing again, not to mention the combined years of waiting in between sessions. This is probably one of the easiest games I've ever played, but it's also one of the most demanding 100%s purely because of how much time it took me, playing and waiting. Overall, Clicker Heroes is not a bad game, especially considering it's free, we love free. The progression can be satisfying, and I can definitely understand why people get hooked on watching their numbers constantly go up. At the same time, it's an incredibly simple game, and once you've seen the basic gameplay loop, you've pretty much seen everything it has to offer. I'd recommend Clicker Heroes to people who already like idle or incremental games, or anyone looking for something free that they can leave running in the background. For everyone else, I don't think there's enough here to really recommend it beyond that. Time it took to complete: 1000hrs Most difficult achievement(s): - Medic (Revive 100 Mercs) - Doubletime (Complete 1000 Five Minute Quests) - Transcendent Zone Conqueror (Beat Zone 30,000 After Transcension) Difficulty rating: ★★★★★★★★★★ 10/10 Overall rating: ★★★★★☆☆☆☆☆ 5/10

I've played a bunch of incrementals and i really like the genre, but this one is really really good. If you like long incrementals you should try it out, it's old but gold, and on top of that it's free. The game keeps suprising you with new habilities and features, and you can have that nice feeling of never ending but constantly improving and upgrading.

Pros: Fun for the first view stages where you feel like your actually unlocking new progression. Art is neat and silly. Cons: No real endgame content, just grinding for achievements that are just "repeat doing thing hundreds of times". Not much of an idle game, you have to constantly upgrade heroes or you cant progress at all, not even slowly. Mercenary system sucks and is tied to a lot of achievements. The game has neat art and its a bit fun and addicting for a while but there is just no real end game mechanics. After you get to transcending (second level of prestiging), the only real mechanic is just making numbers go up and the achievements show that because most of them are just grind fests of making number go up and up again. Also this game is not an idle game, while it technically keeps running, you will not be able to make progress unless actively baby the process of leveling up your heroes constantly and collecting the popup creatures to get meta currency which actually lets you get the auto-clickers to somewhat automate your game but that takes ages and they get more and more expensive every time you buy another.

Clicker Heroes is the first Idler-Clicker game to really grab my interest. Initially the game is easy to understand. You hire heroes to beat monsters, and there is a boss at the end of each level (or Zone). It comes down to the feeling of making progress The more I played the game the more I realized how complex it is. The nice thing is that the layers of complexity are hidden until you get to point where you need to use them. A little warning , at a certain point you really need to read the guides - there are some good ones on Steam, just make sure you read one that is up to date, Kibble42's Clicker Heroes Guides is quite good. There have been major changes in the last few updates. Unfortunately the Clicker Heroes Fandom wiki is hopelessly out of date, and totally wrong in some cases. This becomes a problem when you try to get some help from an AI (like Google AI search) that uses this fandom as a source. With a game that has been out for so long, and had major updates, some sources are going to be out of date. The wiki on Reddit is pretty good, and has links to other sources. Once you get to the Transcension stage, you’ll need to use one of the online calculators, and maybe even do some reading. I quickly discovered that if you make a mistake with a Transcension, you are stuck with it until the next time you can Transcend, and the slowest part of the game is that first run after transcending (actually every first run after transcending has been slow) and this is where out of date information can guide you to a “shortcut” that is a waste of Rubies. The main thing I like about Clicker Heroes is that there is no real push to spend actual money in the game. Also, apparently you can finish the game without spending any money. (I'm not sure if I'm going to get that far , especially since I'm only in the "early game" apparently)
