It's fun, it's cheap, and it's chill af. Love the aesthetic. Who wouldn't want to solve a couple of cases while doing some work or even playing another game? Peak multitasking 10/10, would investigate instead of being productive again.

So ive been playing this game for around 20 hours now. I had another game running overnight and just left this game open as another instance. First of all, i love that it barely takes any CPU power if you put the game to 30fps (which is plenty) and i also love how flexible the windowed mode is (window size, transparency...). On top of that, I absolutely adore the aesthetics of this game. Havign said that, its really slow. Ive been on it for about 20 hours and am only at lvl 11 with 3 ascension points earned. I think the ascension system is super slow, seeing as it can go up to multiple thousands of ascension points for the later maps. Speaking of maps, the original map you start with seems to be the best as it has no upsides but also no downsides. Every other map (and they get expensive real fast) has a downside thats almost worse than the upside instead of getting more advantageous as you play on. Ovrall, the aesthetics and gameplay loop as well as optimisation and bug free experience is great but its really really slow.

A fascinating little idle game! I'm not 100% sure of the best route, but since the tips emphasize Intelligence, that's what I went with, and it seemed to work okay. The art is great, the music's fantastic, and being able to put the game in the corner of the screen AND make it disappear entirely when the window doesn't have focus is excellent. If you're looking for something that can run in the background with minimal (though not zero) interaction that can also give you some chill background music while you do your work or play other games, I think you can do a lot worse than Desktop Detective.

Seemed pretty fun in the beginning, but becomes an absolute slog and a chore. Yes, it technically does "idle" things (only when running), but it does not actually push you anywhere. You need to babysit this thing constantly, otherwise your idle running game is only accumulating hours played. The only time it does some kind of semi-idle progression is clearing cases after ascending and re-leveling after rebirthing, just to get back where you were, and even then you still need to keep interacting with it every few seconds. Rebirthing doesn't actually do much of anything past the first time, and 100% completion is in all honesty, just a waste of time. Idlers should not waste your time constantly. This is not a game where you do 5 minutes of something every morning.

While the game offers a fun concept, It feels sluggish and kind of forces you to keep tab and stay active to not get stuck in progress despite the game saying you just let it idle while you do your own thing. making meaningful progress to improve your stats and global multiplier also is extremely slow and give little back even after 17 hours

Another enjoyable desktop came from Conradical. It's similar enough to their other ones to be familiar, yet distinct and with new features. The soundtrack is fitting and the art style is great. I'm a big fan and can't wait to see where this one goes!

I haven't played much of these desktop companion games, but this one seemed really interesting so I wanted to try it out. And it's so fun! Graphics are super cute, I love the character moving around for clues, the game is light, and I can play it while I do other stuff on my pc. Recommend!
