I havent been able to play this game since Windows XP. I finally see it on Steam, buy it and.....the damn thing wont work!! It starts up but then when I click on "random map" the game shuts down!!! WTH!!! I thought it might actually work since its on Steam, but nope. It STILL will not work!! This sucks!! it's like my 3rd favorite game ever & id love to be able to play it. Sadly, the Windows Gods dont want me to play it it seems. :( Anyone have any ideas on how to play this game on Windows 11? Update: So it seems when I was trying to play with 32 bit resolution, for whatever reason, it wasnt working. I set it to 16 bit resolution & now it works. IDK why that mattered, cuz im sure my video card supports 32 bit resolution, but, there ya go....so if you are having the same problem, try setting your resolution to 16 bit. That simple change seems to work.

成也时代，败也时代 【迟到25年的补票和评论，致敬Rick Goodman大师，也致敬并惋惜这个没能成为经典的经典系列】 由于我没有玩过续作《地球帝国2》与《地球帝国3》，所以接下来有关续作的描述不会具体展开说，仅具体描述本作有关的内容，如果有说的不到位的地方希望能在评论区回复指出，本评论会持续修改。如果能给点个赞那就更感激不尽了 【注：本游戏没有自带中文，但各类论坛和站点上能找到汉化补丁。但汉化补丁只能修改UI语言，而剧情战役的文件是单独的不由语言文件控制，所以大部分的汉化只能生效于功能UI但不能直接汉化战役。后续我可能会在本游戏的指南区编写战役教学和剧情解析，但进度不能保证（因为我也很久没玩这游戏了得先熟悉一下），还望见谅】 每当提到《地球帝国》，就一定会提到他的兄弟系列《帝国时代》。如果说《帝国时代1》是首席设计师Rick Goodman梦想的具象化，那本作《地球帝国1》就是这位大师梦想的完全体 本作《地球帝国1》和隔壁的《帝国时代1》是完完全全由同一位首席设计师（Rick Goodman）操刀制作的作品，所以如果你玩过帝国1或帝国2的话，我保证你上手这个游戏是可以直接无缝衔接的，因为操作逻辑几乎完全一致 《帝国时代1》明明已经成功，为什么大师却要自立门户重新开发一作看起来和它长得一样的作品？ 理由很简单，但很浪漫，因为他想要的是一场跨越人类整个文明的史诗 《文明》系列开创了一个“文明随时间进化” 的宏观概念，深刻影响了 90 年代几乎所有历史策略游戏制作者，Rick Goodman大师也不例外 《帝国时代1》的确是成功的，但这不是大师想要的【完整人类文明史诗】，而他的这一梦想在《地球帝国1》得以实现 与《帝国时代》局限于一小段时间段不同（1代古典文明，2代/4代中世纪与文艺复兴，3代大航海时代），《地球帝国》从一开始就纵跨整个人类文明发展史，从史前原始人木棍石头对砸，到铜器时代与中世纪的骑兵长矛，再到近现代的热兵器，最后展望未来科技。这点与《文明》的设计理念是相同的，但即时战略的底层设计使得它在当时成为了独树一帜的存在 或者换句话说，《地球帝国》其实就是即时战略版的《文明》 为何同出一脉的《帝国时代》辉煌至今，而《地球帝国》却走向衰亡？ 并不是说《地球帝国》真的不如《帝国时代》，而是在RTS逐渐衰落的大环境下，《帝国时代》的设计特点明显是更适合时代潮流的发展 两作在表面上看起来完全是一样的游戏，但有一处最为核心的区别 《帝国时代》侧重的是以【文明】作为特色导向，同一时期的不同文明能够打出自己的特色，后来的3代和4代将这一特点完整发挥出来，与接近同时期的《星际争霸》《魔兽争霸》等竞技类RTS游戏形成了求同存异的发展路径 而《地球帝国》侧重的是以【时代】作为特色导向，从一开始就奠定了整条纵向发展路径，文明发展的时间轴已经完全敲定，若再引入不同文明兵种特色的话那设计量将成几何倍增长，在当年《地球帝国1》那个各家RTS都兵种同质化的时代是很难继续完善下去的 再加上后来工作室解散、版权变更等诸多场外因素，Rick Goodman大师不再参与续作开发，后来《地球帝国2》的外包大重做和《地球帝国3》的内容大缩水最终将这一系列彻底断送 到这里就呼应了最前面的主题，《地球帝国》这个系列【成也时代，败也时代】 总结：这是一部因各种因素导致未能成为经典的经典 后来的2代和3代我没玩过，所以不进行过多评价，但本作《地球帝国1》应是初代制作人Rick Goodman大师理想中的完全体，尽管有早期RTS游戏普遍的兵种同质化问题，但与早期《帝国时代》几乎完全相同的操作机制和贯穿整个人类文明发展史的时代设计让我至今没能找到第二个同类竞品，哪怕是它的兄弟系列《帝国时代》都与它有很明显的风格差异 如果你喜欢《帝国时代》的历史即时战略设计，但又想要《文明》的时代贯穿感，那么这一作是为你量身打造的

Old classic. It has no multiplayer and the graphics didn't age well. If the Devs could add better camera view and Steam multiplayer, this would be fantastic. A great nostalgia game with interesting mechanics

I absolutely love this game - however in it's current state I cannot recommend it. The game crashes and will not run >30 minutes, with no current fix available. The game settings appear to be slightly modified, causing me to have to reset the "sound" volume every time I enter the menus. The game does not recognize my mouse scroll wheel, and I have no doubt that there are other bugs as well. I am really happy to see the game get a Steam release and some work! But at the moment, this is a work-in-progress. I've attempted to install mods/patches, and these do not seem to fix my issues (though it did fix the scroll wheel issue). Pass on this purchase if you have to, otherwise maybe buy it to cajole some interest in fixing the game. It isn't anywhere near the GoG release state as of September, 2026. - Looking forward to updating this review once these bugs get fixed. Classic game, great scope

snagged it in heart beat! this game along with rollercoaster tycoon, sims 1 and simcity were the games I grew up on! yes it is a bit dated but its still as fun as back then. fingers crossed it might get a remaster with updated graphics. now if only someone could get us LOTR battle for middle earth 1 &2 back on steam?

Sometimes crash and bad camera position on gameplay and you can't zoom out without mod
