Farming Camp is a peculiar kind of management sim where you follow a group of nine young adults (around 17 years old) attending a farming camp for four weeks, competing with each other to become the next top Evertree farmer. They are split into groups of three people, and you play as Alessandra, the leader of the Blueberry Jam team. Instead of giving you open-ended days powered by a standard stamina bar, the gameplay forces you to structure your activities around a set schedule, akin to how Persona games handle calendar days. Your workweek starts on Monday and ends on Friday, with each day split strictly into morning and afternoon slots. The weekends are reserved for special events: a competitive cook-off that takes the whole Saturday and handing in your weekly homework on Sundays. These require you to have gathered a certain amount of crops, fish, and other items during the week. As the leader of her group, Alessandra can assign chores to her two companions across each half of the day, with the restriction that their duties must be rotated daily, as they refuse to handle the same chore twice in a row. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3814298566 However, even with extra hands, time feels (and actually is) always too little to do everything that is needed. Aside from four core responsibilities (farming, fishing, animal care, and camp maintenance), there are some extra time-consuming activities like chopping wood, physical training to get a boost, and so on. Furthermore, hanging out with fellow campers for side quests or spending time boosting teammate efficiency also advances the time, thus consuming precious chore slots. Juggling these strict time limits to meet the game’s demands in quests felt utterly frustrating and impossible. The chore minigames themselves are quite enjoyable. Farming follows the classic four-stage rhythm: you plant seeds, water them, wait for them to grow, and then harvest them. Occasionally, you’ll have to defend plots through a whack-a-mole minigame where you squash the bugs. Fishing puts you at the helm of a massive boat navigating down a river to snatch fish while dodging barrels and boulders. One specific achievement asks you to clear four of these river courses without taking a hit, which is, in my opinion, impossible given how close to each other these hazards are, relative to the size of your ship. Caring for livestock requires restocking their troughs with hay and water, petting the sad animals, and gathering their goods. Meanwhile, camp maintenance tasks require sweeping floors, shelving books alphabetically, repairing fences, and gathering the trash scattered all over the camp. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3814298824 Certain quest ingredients only appear as rare forageable spawns that blend right into the lush environment, forcing you to sweep the entire grounds twice a day so you do not overlook them (and you will still end up overlooking some). Missing even one small item means failing the quest or the weekly submission entirely, even if you previously ignored every social opportunity to focus solely on the chores needed to complete those quests. To make matters worse, your teammates’ efficiency is quite dreadful, even when they’re leveled up. When tending animals, they leave behind half the produce for you to collect manually. When assigned to fishing, they might catch only three fish, whereas you would easily haul in ten. Their minimal contributions make you feel like you are shouldering the entire camp alone, which is essentially impossible. The scoring system adds artificial pressure by grading your team, yet missing tasks barely seems to affect the final outcome, making the rigid scheduling feel more restrictive (and simply put, useless) than rewarding. The gameplay is story-heavy, featuring plenty of dialogue cutscenes between camp attendees, followed by an evening gathering around the campfire to chat. Even so, I did not particularly enjoy where the story went. It begins on a lighthearted note with humor and charm, but that cozy atmosphere gets spoiled later by corruption, intentional teammate sabotage, constant bickering, teenage rivalry, and personal drama. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3814298658 Achievements-wise, the game isn’t any less frustrating. You have to discover every crop, item, recipe, and task, yet some only appear if you speak to specific characters at precise times. Maxing out all 4 main chores in a single run is also impossible, since completing quests requires balancing your time across different duties. Reaching maximum level in a chore essentially means grinding only one or two tasks per playthrough. Likewise, maxing friendship with teammates forces you to sacrifice valuable chore slots to spend time with them instead. Without comprehensive guides available right now, most of these unlocks are easily missable. You also need at least two playthroughs anyway (each taking around 6-8h): one where you win the camp competition and one where you lose. The visuals are charming and cozy, but the technical state is quite rough. Item interactions feel finicky because hitboxes do not register reliably, often requiring awkward positioning and exact angles. This flaw becomes annoying during Saturday cooking competitions, where tight timers mean a single missed interaction can cost your team the win. Other technical glitches occur as well, including overlapping music tracks, stuck controller inputs, frozen transitions, and broken scene triggers that force a full restart. Thankfully, you get three manual save slots alongside the autosave system. Overall, Farming Camp has plenty of neat ideas in how camp life aspects are incorporated into the gameplay loop, but right now it feels like a mixed bag rather than the lovely farming sim it has the potential to be. The charming pixel art style and story focus are weighed down by a narrative that strays far from wholesome comfort (at least in my case, it failed to resonate with me). At the same time, the rigid calendar mechanics create friction over time, leaving you feeling confined rather than free to enjoy these activities. 💜 If you like this review, please consider following Lilly's Corner Curator page 🌸 Website

HAS WAY TOO MANY BUGS! I'm stuck at the entrance of the barn because the Centaur and the fish teachers are blocking me from leaving, I'm at the week if that means anything. Also, I use a Game Sir controller and whenever i get into a cooking competition i have to use both the controller and my mouse. I keep leaving and coming back to the game but i cant do anything about the teachers blocking the path. I want to love this game but i don't know what to do about the bugs.

i can't recommend the game as it currently is - it definitely shipped with a good amount of bugs and some just plain annoying UI/action interface issues. The ? pops up over your character's head when exiting a door and stays there for a few seconds for no reason, it pops up when you're too far away to interact with things, there are so many places to SIT that I've sat instead of talking or interacting double digits amount of times. Using the mouse instead of the keyboard to physically click on the item you want to interact with does not impact the experience at all, it still messes up and does the wrong thing the same amount of times. In one instance I talked to an NPC AND my character glided towards a 'sit' spot as the cutscene played. I ended up stuck walking on top of the river for a while until I found a spot that let me sit back on the dock and start walking on dry land again. On a more personal level, I don't really like the characters or the story, and the game on first play through is so easy. The actual gameplay itself is varied and fun, but it could be better with more time to smooth out the issues mentioned above. If it gets some patches I'm sure it'll be a much more enjoyable experience.

Although the game is verified for steam deck, it is unplayable on the device in its current state. The save function does not work as the game is unable to scroll up and down menus. Additonally, the "return to main menu" button also does not work, so the game has to be closed by other means. Near the barn/silo, the player will get a "?" above her head suggesting there is something to interact with, there is not. At times the back button is unresponsive and takes multiple attempts to exit a menu. The release of the game should have been delayed with the amount of bugs it has currently.

Cool concept, but story wise it tried to do too much for the limited time span. Also the game glitched as I was going into day 27 and it cleared out my inventory and seemingly all my progress (levels and relationships, even showed me "discovering" a main character) but spat me out for the ending so I'm pretty sure that messed some stuff up for how the ending was supposed to be effected by my game play. Didn't realize until the last week that items don't stay with you between weeks, and failed the last quest due to foraging RNG. Some of the side quests didn't show an end date or give a reminder for them to be turned in, so I didn't know and missed the deadline despite having all the items. Also kind of weird for the pc to end saying that she loved the experience when the entire time she didn't really seem to want to be there and her only motivation was money.
