nostalgia, but not really given QoL features for a steam rerelease. It still runs on modern systems. No. You weren't just stupid as a kid. The game gets unfairly difficult after a few floors and the enemy stats start scaling exponentially and I'm pretty sure basically nobody has actually beaten this game. Get it on Deep Sale.

I did it, I finished this game for the first time in 2026 woohoo! I also manage to make videos on YouTube due series so I can prove myself I'm capable of and it's done! hey if someone wants to see this review well for me I have a short story or feeling to tell you what I'm about to write right now do you remember or have a feeling around 2010's many people like us we used so much non Steam version rather than using Steam or any other application to play? well back in our day we used cheats to write commands in game from YouTube videos to finish game faster or giving ourselves some levels , fame , skills , mythic items and such? now that is our nostalgia back in those days :) those days we were young people in reality and then we had some fun using those cheats to use in Fate instead of legit doing all by yourself and so on but doing 0 isn't bad at all not even bad decision and for now, in this present you cannot use cheats already anymore which I already have noticed in 2025 I also manage to get the last achievement : Fate Ensured "Create a Descedent character" oh man those days we were kids and we had some fun in there and it's still interesting this game to try! that's it all I have to write for now! what are you thoughts on this review I just wrote?

I remember playing this game as a kid and replaying the demo over and over and over again, never actually having the money to buy it. So when given the chance to buy it as an adult and play the full game, I did and loved every minute of it. Simple game that fueled a love of RPGs that's lasted a lifetime. Nostalgia buy for me, and worth every penny.

Very nostalgic. Starts out fun, but enemies quickly get tough and you have to start using unfun melee strategies like kiting and regularly guzzling health potions. If you are a summoner, all of your summoned minions can be trivially banished (but you cannot banish monster's summons). If you are an attack mage, you can be silenced and then cannot do anything for a minute. Recommendation: When starting a save, buy a fishing rod and fish in town until you get a rare item (yellow border). Buy an identify scroll, ID it and sell for an insane amount of money. Also, you can trivialize fishing by opening two screens at once (like your inventory and your pet's inventory). With these windows open, the timer for losing the fish is frozen. Once you hear the sound of a bite, close the windows with hot keys and immediately click the button to reel it in.

Fate is a decent game if you're trying to get into the dungeon crawler genre. It's basically Diablo but scaled way down mechanically. It's got a kind of "build your own class" thing going on, where there aren't any special moves, and what really matters is what you invest your points on, and which equipment you choose to use. Otherwise, you got the genre mainstays. Bottomless, randomly-generated dungeon levels, packed with monsters and loot. You can pick up quests to do while you're delving into the dungeon - even if there isn't much variety. It's usually slaying monsters on a specific level of the dungeon. You also get a "main quest" to work toward, where the enemy you need to defeat is deep into the dungeon, which gives you an end goal to work toward. Mechanically, FATE does try to spice things up a little with its risk-reward mechanics. But, if I'm being honest, they don't really feel like that much of a risk. So, there's not a whole lot of pressure. Even death isn't really that much of a setback. You have a few options after death for getting your character back, none of which I found to be a particularly strong setback. So, I think "low stakes" describes the game pretty well. The graphics are a little dated, but I think as long as you're looking at the in-game camera, they look fine. The main menu insisting on getting up close and personal to your character doesn't really do the graphics many favors. But, during gameplay, I think the storybook aesthetic has aged rather well. The sound design could use a bit of tweaking, and maybe some tuning to make sure sounds don't overlap on top of each other. But it's a game from 2005, and that kind of comes with the territory. Overall, if you love Diablo, Diablo probably did it better. FATE is a much simpler and more accessible experience, but it does feel a little bare-bones at times. Regardless of that, it still has its own charm, and I think it holds up. Especially so, when you consider the price - you could do a lot worse with a game that costs a lot more.

Great beginner RPG! Still has plenty of layers and complexity for advanced dungeon crawlers and more intricate strategies. Can export character to the subsequent releases, Fate II & III.
