Best of the classic Final Fantasy games when it comes to mechanical depth and replayability. So many great things here. Peak job system, awesome world that evolves with the story, and above all else... GIRUGAMESH!

TL;DR: Final Fantasy V a fun game, rife with mechanical depth, but it is too long for its own good. Poor pacing is a thorn in this game's side throughout. After playing the gem that was Final Fantasy IV, Final Fantasy V offers a much more lighthearted and simple story. Carrying on the theme of elemental crystals and their withering of their respective element in the world, resulting in void and chaos to encroach, Final Fantasy V plays it pretty safe in this regard. It feels much more apt to call FFV a spiritual sequel, or continuance of FFIII than IV. Square really were jamming with this new job system, to mix and match abilities from different jobs to create very powerful builds is a real treat for player expression. It is the highlight and best bounty that this game offers. The aesthetic and visuals feels very classic Final Fantasy. I really enjoyed the music as well, they went for a more rowdy(?) take on town themes and overworld music, which fits pretty well with the general feel of this game. Insofar as presentation and tone - this game has a lot of comedic and lighthearted moments. Don't get me wrong, there are some emotionally heavy parts, but for the most part, the game itself doesn't take itself too seriously...though, to my taste, I sometimes wish it would. In my recent playthroughs of the Final Fantasy series, it's been illuminating to see the different things they tried and how flexible they are with delivering tone. It's been a journey and I have found that I value a strong story more than most elements in a game like this. The characters, while much more fleshed out than the nobodies they gave us in FFIII and less so than in FFIV fell mostly flat to me. The exception is Faris, Boko and Gilgamesh. I love them. I don't mean to deride this game as bad or anything - it plays like a dream and as mentioned, the job system allows for incredible turn based combat. But the plights of most of the characters, the story itself and the big bad, don't do too much for me. I thought Bartz, Lenna, Galuf and Krile were pretty uninteresting and they did not give me much of a reason to pursue the story for their sake. Much like this review, Final Fantasy V was too long. When I thought things were wrapping up, it just kept going. A slogging pacing accompanied with mostly middling characters, I was not chomping at the bit to continue playing.

Best version of the best classic 2D FF imo. Great remaster ost and the option for classic music. Boost mechanic allows for faster playthroughs and cool challenge runs. Adding more replay value to a already replayable game. My thoughts on the changes to the gameplay are positive for the most part like buffing classes like monk, dancer, and dragoon. Giving bows and whips more added utility. Being able to skip turns like future games with the ATB system. This game itself is fun even after 30 years later. Very worth picking it up on a sale.

A Victory Fanfare do Pixel Remaster provavelmente é minha favorita até aqui, e Battle on the Big Bridge, bom, eu fiquei uns 5 minutos parado no mapa, só escutando ela.

Probably the first Final Fantasy game that made me think about my turns, jobs and equipment. Not only because it wasn't a cakewalk, but also because it's just so much fun experimenting with all the jobs and discovering what each one of them do and how to combine them together and when. I was dreading getting into the game at first because I didn't like FF3's job leveling progress, but this time around, each job has 1-6 levels, sometimes less, and all magic, songs and summons are shared between characters which made everything just sooo nice to play. Combat aside, the story is a lot more lighthearted and slow. It isn't until after half of the game that the story presents a big conflict which made the beginning quite hard, motivation-wise. While FFIV was a bit more closed and linear, FFV is veeery open and a lot longer. At least the more expressive cutscenes were nice. The dungeons and bosses of this game are also a lot better and interactive in comparison to previous entries. I think they nailed that pretty well and I'm glad! cuz I was getting kind of bored of the same formula. OH also, please! Even if Forked Tower is optional, go and do it!! The design can be a bit underwhelming in retrospective, but just the overall mood and tone makes the experience worth it. I was initially gonna be a bit harsher but every time I hear the title screen music I just get transported to the world of FF5 and I don't think many games are able to do that that well. It's just that good of a title screen. If you're coming from FFXIV, you're gonna see: - Galuf, Krile and the Warriors of Dawn (seen in Eureka) - Syldra, Alte Roite, Omega and Level Checker, Carbuncle mounts - Magic Pots (Occult Crescent and ARR) - Sastasha, Ronkan Ruins, Ship Graveyard/Siresong Sea, Great Gubal Library (not all of it), Battle in the Big Keep trial, Deltascape V1.0, Deltascape V4.0 boss - Ghido, Exdeath, Gilgamesh, Enkidu, Omega, Shinryu minions - Karlabos, Atomos, Catoblepas, Azulmagia, Gogo, Gilgamesh, Exdeath's Minions, Catastrophe, Halicarnassus, Shinryu, Omega, and from the GBA version; Enuo - Samurai, Dancer, Blue Mage (which were funnily enough introduced in the same expansion) and Beastmaster + all jobs in the Occult Crescent - The original versions of the songs The Day Will Come, Prelude to the Void, Battle in the Big Bridge, Battle 1 and 2, Decisive Battle, Exdeath's Castle, Dungeon, Sealed Away, To the North Mountain, A New World And probably a lot of other things that I missed.
