FluxWerks

1 / 8

The terrain in FluxWerks is not a backdrop. It is a resource and a hazard. Strip-mine a mountain into nothing, then build your factory down into the hole it left. Dig below a lake and the water pours in behind you. Heat crosses from block to block, and storms wear down every machine you leave in the open.

The scan said this world was empty

A long-range scan found a temperate, oxygen-rich, unoccupied world. You are the preparation unit, sent far ahead to raise an industrial base, survey the planet, and transmit everything home. The orders are simple.

But a scan taken from that far away does not catch everything, and the closer you look at this world, the less empty it seems.

Key features

Total voxel freedom

Every block in the world can be mined, moved, or built over. Strip-mine a mountain with excavators, carve a bunker into deep rock, or build a platform across the open ocean and a tunnel underneath it.

Dynamic fluid simulation

Water, oil, lava and acid flow through the world and react where they meet. Water on lava makes obsidian. Water on hot ground boils away. Volcanoes erupt for real, and lava does not care what you built in its path.

Heat is physical

Waste heat does not just vanish away. It moves through the blocks around your machines, so how and where you build matters as much as what you build. Pipe the heat away, or turn it back into power.

Deep automation and logistics

Build dense assembly lines from belts, inserters and pipes, and cover long distances with cargo drones. Copy any working section of your factory as a blueprint and stamp it anywhere.

The nanobot swarm

You touch the world through a nanobot swarm. Point it at terrain to clear it, at resources to harvest them, at a blueprint to print it.

Your exhaust does not just disappear

FluxWerks has no enemy factions, but the planet keeps score. Pollute the air heavily enough and something dormant in the soil might awaken...

Explore a world with a past

Cross deserts, jungles, tundra and volcanic wastes, and dig into cave systems. Scan for ore straight through solid rock. Points of interest are scattered across the world, with story background to uncover.

Weather wears things down

Rain, blizzards, sandstorms and lightning cross the world on their own schedule, and machines wear out with exposure. Keeping repairs flowing is its own supply chain.

Research across eras

Climb from your first furnace to industrial chemistry and advanced electronics. Every research era asks for a noticeably bigger factory than the last, and each one unlocks machines that change how you build, not just how fast you build.

The computing layer

Advanced machines draw on a shared computing reserve produced by your computer clusters. A starved factory slows down, and computers draw real power and put out real heat, so datacenter management becomes a real puzzle to solve.

Built for scale

FluxWerks is designed for large factories, while still simulating the heat and fluids across the whole map. Fly freely around the world while the factory keeps running.

The survey is waiting. Wishlist FluxWerks.

After hundreds of hours in Satisfactory, few dozen in Factorio, and another hundred plus in random other factory / automation games, this one drew me in due to a few unique concepts like the heat management and the pollution / farming combo. ~14 hours in so far. And I'd say it's decent. If you like the automation genre, you'll recognize a lot of the trends / problems and solutions. I personally love the fact that this game also involves a level of verticality that 2D games lack. Edit to add: The developer is super responsive and actively taking feedback into consideration. Join the discord, leave some questions / comments / concerns, 95% chance he gets back to you on it. I've seen a few signification patches in the 3 days I've been playing the game. Love to see that level of back and forth with a player base. A few minor gripes: 1. Ore scarcity has been the bane of my playthrough. Securing ~40k deposits of the big 3 (Iron, Copper, Coal) and automating the first two research packs, ran out one by one while I was trying to secure a more reliable source of sand. 2. The belts / logistics so far. I haven't unlocked Drones, but running belts all over the world is less straight forward than some other games. I'd love if there was an "auto destroy plants" or "Auto level" option, just something for my nanobots to do while the belt is being constructed. I find myself manually leveling 3 block wide highways to run materials from one location to another, and I think that's been the bulk of my playtime. Maybe this would be less frustrating if it weren't magnified by gripe #1 (resources seem to run out quickly -> having to build more conveyor highways.) 3. The recipe / load balancing is not intuitive. Take the foundry MK I for example. The recipe to make iron ingot is 8s long, and takes 1 iron. But it also requires fuel. The foundry MK I runs at a craft speed of 0.5x, so the recipe is actually 16s in practice and still only needs 1 iron. But you've got to do some math to figure the coal. The building requires 150 kW, each coal provides 7.5 MJ. So do (0.15*10^6) / (7.5*10^6) to get 0.02 coal per second... So the foundry MK 1 will produce 60/16 = 3.75 Iron Ingot per minute, and use 3.75 iron ore and 1.2 coal... I would much prefer if this information was in the recipe itself, or even somewhere in the wiki how to calculate it. I'm not one to shy away from a complicated system, or do a bit of napkin math, but it'd be nice to have a more streamlined reference. 4. The game has a built in planner, that should be a plus. But it's fairly limited in the fact that it only allows you to set "targets", such as "3.75 iron ingot per minute" - A big plus on the planner though, it does tell you how much excess capacity you'll have. For example, if you want 3.0 iron ingot per minute, the planner will tell you to build a single foundry which will produce an excess 0.75 units per minute which you can use elsewhere at your discretion. 5. building vertically is beneficial, but it's a major pain. Because you the player are a floating drone thing, your camera is bound to the drone thing. To build inside buildings you have to go inside the buildings. Once you've got a roof on, your ability to see from the top down is pretty much nonexistent. If you've built a multi-level factory and something goes wrong with the base level... Good luck finding the problem and sorting it out.

As the game currently stands, I cannot recommend Fluxwerks. I don't enjoy building power plants with almost 100% of my game time, since they generate such a small amount of power compared to what buildings demand. Mines are very, very shallow, and so you have to spend a lot of time setting up new coal mines constantly! Want to build a tree farm to lessen your coal burden? First off good luck, plants 'wither and die' for no reason, secondly that also takes forever to level out a farm plot, and thirdly the output is miniscule compared to demands. Want to go with renewables instead? You'll just be searching for copper instead of coal since their maintenance costs are many times higher than other buildings. Plus you need coal anyway to power the foundries that are making the copper repair packs! There's no fast travel (at least not within the first 15 hours of gameplay) so I hope you enjoy slowly fluttering around the landscape manually attending to things. The good news is that all these things are fixable within Early Access, and the devs are indeed working on the game actively as of this posting. Fuel value and/or power production needs to be at least doubled or tripled, movement speed needs a buff (shift should speed you up, not slow you down ffs), and renewables shouldn't be more maintenance-heavy than other things: you already need 100 solar buildings to match 6 steams, no reason to make that mean you need 600x the maintenance to match!! (Plus you can shelter steams to further reduce their maintenance: can't do that to renewables)

Probably the most slowest and painful 'automation' game out there. Automation is essentially non-existent and a massive pain to setup, the migration to actually getting things running on their own takes 10x as long as it should be, and you're still juggling fossil fuels later than what feels right, beyond that you also need to deal with the factory and repairs as well, making it an unnecessarily punishing factory game without the actual factory.

This gem of a factory builder shows a lot of potential in early-access. The map is infinite: belt products across ridiculous distances, or make specialized outpost factories. This one is clearly made with love - it belongs in your collection!

I’ve played a lot of Satisfactory, and Fluxworks has given me that same feeling of “I’ll just fix one more thing” and suddenly 3 hours are gone. I really like the automation and production side of the game. There’s always something to improve, expand or optimize, and watching everything come together is super satisfying. If you enjoy factory/automation games like Satisfactory, definitely give Fluxworks a try.

Great factory sim game, lots of potential and active dev. So far having a bug free experience and learning the game workflows. Tutorials are really helpful whilst not giving too much direction on how to set up and build the factory. Amazing QoL items in already, like factory planer and blueprints

This game is currently very underrated. Minecraft voxels combined with a Foundry-like top down style. Add in temperature and pollution management, and you have the start to a very interesting automation game. Once this game gets picked up by the big automation streamers this will take off.
