The stylized art direction might mislead you about the game's attitude toward "fun". Monaco on very hard mode was one of the most stressful racing game experiences of my life. However, learning the track, working out the best line and brake timing, and getting to first place consistently was extremely rewarding. As frustrating as it is to fail, I feel like it's always my own fault for being too aggressive or cavalier. It's arcade-style in that race lengths are short and the physics model is about fun over accuracy. On the other hand, AI doesn't go easy on you at all, and the game rewards practice, patience, and precision. Played story mode up to the 90s so far, excited to play through the modern eras. The dev's obvious enthusiasm for the sport and its history is endearing and infectious. Runs well on steam deck, works without issue on fedora linux.

The game is great, especially with mods. The driving is probably the most arcade-like I've ever experienced, but honestly, just being able to experience so many different eras makes it worth it. My only real complaint is about the DLC, though. I really don't understand the choice of seasons for some of the eras. Calling 2014 the "Early 2010s" era and 2018 the "Mid 2010s" era doesn't make much sense to me. For the Early 2010s, you could have picked a much better and earlier season, like 2012, which would have represented that era much more accurately.

I love the concept, and I love the different eras you can experience in this game. The graphical style and the overall feel of the game are also quite good. The reason for my negative review is that it seems like developers who choose to make games that aren't focused on modern photorealistic graphics think they have to compensate for the graphical style by making the game insanely difficult. When you come home from a hard day's work, want to chill with your favourite game, select the easiest difficulty level the game has to offer, and still struggle just to avoid a DNF, I think that's a game design issue. Games shouldn't add more frustration when you're specifically choosing the easiest difficulty because you just want to relax and have fun. And to all of you who will inevitably tell me to GIT GUD, I say this: gaming should be for everyone, not only for the select few with godlike reflexes and divine muscle memory. Gaming should be something we can use to get away from the hardships of the real world, and ultimately, games should be FUN. If a game is so difficult that you can't even make it to the finish line on the easiest difficulty it has to offer, then something is seriously wrong with the difficulty balancing. If the game changes in future updates, I will of course change my review accordingly. I won't refund it, because WE NEED more games in this style and covering these eras. Edit: After some more playtime i must admit i LOVE the game.

Does a great job of bringing out that nostalgia for old seasons, and the game itself is inherantly fun, if a little repetitive or so after a while.

4/5 Stars. I would have given this 5/5 but the AI is waaay too difficult, even on the 'very easy' mode (and I've been playing car racing games since Outrun in the 80's. NOTE: This feels more like a simulator than arcade, which was one of my other dissapointments about it, but that was my fault for not looking into the game more before purchasing it. Still fun, but just keep that in mind before purchasing.
