Overall this is a very cute game. I love the little froggies and the cute little atmosphere. I do, however, wish they had more accessibility settings. I have severe arthritis in my hands and joints, and many of the minigames as it stands are completely inaccessible to me with no ability for me to actually turn off some of these things. I wish they had the option like Core Keeper or Celeste. So for that reason, I can't say that I'd fully recommend it. :\

I've been waiting for this game's release for a long, long time- and I was very honored to help with beta testing the game. I've been waiting since then to be able to leave a review for the full release- and I'm very excited to finally be able to do so. That aside- Frog Island is genuinely a gorgeous game, with a lot of visible love and care put into it. I know the word "cozy game" is often over used when talking about games, but Frog Island is genuinely one that fits that category and does it well. The music is soothing, and while there are certainly some challenging puzzles and minigames, the gameplay itself is really calming. It delivers on its premise perfectly- Frog Island is a cozy game about befriending frogs on an island. It contains a lot of the staples of games like it- farming, fishing, cooking, etc- while it isn't a game just about these things, they're there. It's also got a very cute decorating system! That was a highlight for me at least. The frogs themselves also have fun minigames to bond with them too! And the story is very charming, though I did admittedly cry at some parts. This game means a lot to me, but even beyond the biased feelings I have towards it, it's a beautiful game, and if you want something for under ten dollars (USD at least) to enjoy, it's well worth the price- I hope you'll fall in love with it too. If I could buy a copy for myself instead of being given one I'd gladly do so- guess I'll just have to buy a friend a copy, instead. Enjoy your adventure out there, guys :]

I take credit for getting a few friends addicted too. It is so cozy and cute. There is so much to do in the game. I finished the story campaign after almost 30 hours. I admit I love to fish in-game and experiment with cooking. How much time you spend doing each activity is up to you. Once you feel you’ve completed your day just head home and sleep to save your progress. There are plenty of guides to help you with various parts of the game if you get stuck. DO NOT BUY *if you have tendonitis, carpal tunnel syndrome, arthritis, etc. This game is non stop clicking! Click bushes and trees to shake them, snails like five times to pick them up, shells to collect them. Click every frog once to go into their menu, once to chat, several times in each mini-game. Navigating through the seed bag menu is more unnecessary clicking.. Click click click!!! I wish there was an accessibility option or the ability to bind some of the left click interactions to a key on my keyboard. As it stands, it really isn't a game I can play as it starts flaring my RSI up within the first few minutes because of the frequency of clicking. Very sad as the game is super cute...

I've seen negative reviews on this game and wanted to share my perspective and experience. Frog Island is an absolute gem of a game and has so much charm, from the huge variety of adorable hand-drawn toys/decorations, to the hilarious dialogue and deeper story that the player gets to discover bit by bit by exploring the island. I've personally tried both a relaxed playstyle and a min-max playstyle (the latter is my preferred way of playing games like Stardew Valley), and I can say that both playstyles are very fun with this game. I'm not the hugest fan of very relaxed gameplay, but when playing this game I found that I always had something to do. However, unlike some of the negative reviews I've seen, the game NEVER forces you to play at a certain pace or be at a certain skill level to progress. The minigames are very fun (especially the fishing minigame!) and explained clearly. Any "difficult" minigames are only for rarer fish/bugs, and they become much easier once you upgrade your tools, as expected of most farming sim games! Quests can be done at the player's own pace, and encourages players to search the island for themselves to solve riddles/puzzles. Players who prefer to be given the answers to these puzzles are easily able to consult the very helpful and friendly Frog Island community, and the dev has also stated that the Frog Island wiki will be up very soon. It's clear how much love and work the dev put into the game. My favourite part is meeting new frogs to complete my collection, and discovering the secrets around the island (and there is a LOT to discover!). Later in the game, there are scenes that have genuinely made me tear up. And I'm still not finished the game! I would highly recommend trying out Frog Island to anyone who enjoys the cozy farming sim + creature collector genre, or even to anyone who wants to hang out with adorable frogs :)

ive already decided that this is game of the year, i love this game i waited so long and im so happy its here. i love frogs sooooooooooooooooooooo much EDIT: 16+ hours in and i still think this is game of the year, i love how cozy it is and literal hours can pass while im playing. its getting more rainy and colder here and this is the perfect cozy game for ythat

I have been patiently awaiting this game since devlog 0 and was ecstatic when it finally released. The core gameplay is simple and relaxing, the art style is cute and cozy, and the sound design is on point. However it has some issues that really detract from my enjoyment and a positive review. I'll start with the mini-game controls. They are not intuitive and feel clunky. The worst is with fishing, you must hold down the interact button, which works fine for the part where you must press x amount of times, but feels awkward to do during the two skill check types where you must release the button to click again, but you cant just let go and release otherwise the fishing meter will deplete, it would make more sense if the bar filled on its own and only decreases when one of these appear. when bug catching you click the bug, but it doesn't immediately start the mini-game, you must click again to get the cursor to start moving. As for cooking it feels a bit out of place. not having the recipe book on the same screen you cook doesn't make sense, and the ingredient selection is a bit tedious having to re open the menu and scroll around for every single ingredient also performance is quite poor. while steam doesn't show it, my laptop does have a 7700S which the game pushes pretty hard at at upwards of 80% usage. It maxes out my RX 780M iGPU when i switch to that dropping frames to as low as 20fps I do have some asks. input binding would be great. middle mouse panning would be more functional as left click as the select and pan button can be annoying, especially when placing and moving objects (cant rebind wasd to fit my keyboard. till/plant/water being on rmb instead of lmb is certainly a choice. I'm assuming the mouse controls are made with trackpads in mind, so a separate setting would be greatly appreciated.

This is not what I would call a cozy game. On the surface, it's about collecting and petting and chatting with cute little frogs, and buying more extravagant seats for them to perch themselves on. Playing further, I got frustrated. It's not entirely clear at times how to progress. It's not clear how to summon a specific frog you haven't seen before. It's not clear if you're just having bad luck fishing for a certain fish or if you're in the wrong spot, same goes for bugs, recipes, etc. If you're trying to get every achievement in this game, good luck. There's a lot of ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ I could spend in this review trying to mitigate, but I won't (except the absurdly low rate of 'garbage' you need to fish out to upgrade your fishing rod'). This is a beautifully handcrafted game. I appreciated the difficult fishing mini-game, which incorporated 5 different kinds of classic fishing games into one. I loved the click-and-point spin on the classic Stardew Valley 'cozy game' cliche. And there's a certain darkness to the story which I haven't fully pieced together even after beating the game. This is a game with secrets that rewards players that seek them out, and it's obvious that it was made with love. I've done my best to figure them out, but I have a feeling I haven't even come close. This was a great experience. DevFrog, you should be proud.
