Garden Eternal

1 / 8

This game is not bad, I am mainly giving it a thumbs down because it is a bit of false advertising. This game has the "idler" tag, but it cannot be played as an idle game. It requires constant attention and play otherwise you will get reset, or monsters will destroy things and there are a lot of events/destructibles that require attention and clicking. I think the cards are pretty cool and I do like some of the mechanics, I just didn't want this game to require as much constant attention as it does. I have to pause it anytime I need to take a break otherwise a lot of my progress gets reset.

I bought this game expecting it to function as advertised, but it’s held back by inaccurate tagging and misleading marketing. It’s labeled as a casual and an idler, yet it is neither. The game never generates resources in a way that allows you to step away, so the idle tag is simply not representative of the actual experience. You cannot leave this game unattended at any point. Monsters will destroy your structures, and constant random events demand immediate manual input. The amount of micromanagement required makes the gameplay far from casual, despite what the store page claims. Beyond the gameplay issues, the technical settings are also poorly implemented. The game cannot switch to a true windowed mode. Choosing windowed or borderless still forces full screen. The resolution options are equally restrictive, offering only 1920×1080, 2560×1440, and 3840×2160 with no smaller choices. A functional windowed mode needs at least a 1600×900 option to be usable, yet the game provides nothing of the sort.

you can't idle the game but it's probably a mistake rather than an intentional design choice. it doesn't seem like the dev is interested in fixing this any time soon tho.

Eternal Garden, Eternal Clicking Eternal Garden is a not-very-idle but mercifully short clicker game of, of course, tending to a mysterious garden. It's much, much busier than what you would expect from an idle game about a garden. Fire up your favorite auto-clicker program and read on: As the opening tells you, you've inherited a garden from your uncle and have to maintain it. Clicking on the plant that represents the Heart of the garden generates Growth, which is then spent on various generators such as large buzzy Bees to visit flowers around the plant, or Workers to ... poke at the Heart. Unlike 99% of other idle games, each generator building has a limited amount. Reach that amount, and you can slide the Sacrifice button to, well, sacrifice and prestige it to a new level. You then need to buy at that new level to proceed. Every minute or two, an item appears in the garden. Some can be dragged to the Heart or a building for a short buff; others can be clicked on for buffs and bonuses. You'd think this would be it, but no. At the top is the Garden Growth progress bar. But really, it should be a Garden Health bar. Growth you or your buildings generate contribute to the bar. However, it also FALLS due to ... something. It's unclear what triggers a hit. Usually it's heralded with a flash of light. Thing is, though, if you leave the Garden unattended or unpaused long enough, Health falls to zero and you need to start basically over. This is true for about the first half of gameplay. After two hours or so, Growth earned from generators is enough to offset the hits. Hitting certain milestones gives you a booster pack of cards. You pick one and open it, and then pick one of the three options given to you. The others are discarded. Cards go into a hand at the bottom of the screen or in a deck below the hand, both with limited spaces. Only cards in the hand grant you their buffs, which can be either a general-situation buff like increasing Growth, or a buff that triggers only in certain situations. Some cards are simply a one-time gift, usually Growth. One clever mechanic in the game is that the four seasons are represented. Each season has different effects relative to hidden base stats. Winter gives a penalty to Growth, but this dormant season also speeds up generation of Seeds. Seeds are used to invest in a tech tree for various bonuses. In this tech tree, you can also unlock Mining, which spawns rocks in the Garden from time to time, with which you can click on and mine gold for more tech tree bonuses. From time to time, your Garden gets visitors. Each makes an offer to accept or reject. Usually, this is some sort of trade. Some take a portion of your current Growth currency on hand, often in exchange for a few Seeds. The Traveling Merchant takes all of the current tier of one of your buildings and gives you Seeds. There are also unfriendly visitors in the form of monsters. These appear as a card and attack one tier of buildings. You need to click on the card a few times to destroy the monster. The game indexes which visitors you've gotten so far. Right now, this game ends all too quickly, on some hidden milestone. You don't have to cycle through every tier on every building to reach it, nor do you need to max out the tech tree. HOWEVER, the game is also only a month old as of this review. The devs, who are very responsive in the forums, and have already fixed a resolution issue, have indicated there are several updates in the pipeline that could extend gameplay, including some form of NewGame+. The larger issue that some players might have is not that it's too short at the moment, but on the constant need for clicking to keep the Garden healthy, especially in the early going. You will either need an auto-clicker or rely on the "hold to click constantly" mechanic built into the game. But it's also pretty easy to do in shortish spurts here and there. If you can handle all the clicky-ness, this could be a decent game for you.

Great little incremental game. Love the progression & artwork. Game currently isn't completely idle but developer has said they are adjusting the game to be idleable soon. Highly recommend giving it a go

A wonderful short incremental game. The random events kept me busy and made it feel really fast-paced. Graphics, sounds and music was all top notch. Bright neon colors and a dark background made it easy to zone in. I wish there was more content, I'd love to go into the gazillions!!

It's false advertised? Yes It's not an idle game, if you go afk for ~30 min, you're busted. But not bad
