Gemini Rue

Was one of my first point-and-click adventure games. Beaten in 2013. Looked like trite overdramatized garbage with quality atmosphere. Now, 13 years of gaming later, seems like a decent work plot-wise when measured against the overall industry average. Does the change in perception indicate the industry's collapse or mine? PS Visit the review's comment section at your own peril We've repurposed it as a Brothel for Slaking Dialectical Lusts. We regret nothing™.

That whole thing about alt-click an interactible to open your inventory, and then alt-click the item in your inventory to look at it or combine it with something was absolutely not explained. Absolutely stumped me with the Cathode Ray and also trying get a name off the ID. Otherwise a good game. They really patched this up quite a bit ever since it was first released.

Not the best game game of this (commonly) very good software house. Story is a bit superficial and some UI elements are crude (I really don't understand how you could build a combat mechanism like this)… but in any case, it has been funny enough to justify the up-vote,

I gave Gemini Rue a fair shot. Trying to play more than an hour at a time over the years, installing, uninstalling to re-install. I would not have bought the game if it wasn't falsely advertised as a point a click adventure. It looks a lot like it belongs to the genre but it doesn't. For the few steps I took in the world of Gemini Rue, the story and world building both seem interesting and I wish I could have seen more of it. As a point and click adventure game, the interface is clunky at best, only being able to bring the inventory when clicking on a interactable surface feels wrong, Double clicking repeats your last action (look at, interact, talk or kick). You need to kick a bench to sit on it instead of interacting with it. It looks like the developers prioritized novelty over ergonomics. The shooting mini game was the part I could not pass. Unnecessary hard to time action scenes do not fit well in this type of game and it should have never been implemented imo. It becomes a trial and error game where you are sent back to an auto-save and each time you just pray the auto-save is less than 2 clicks from where you died. Such a shame. Gemini Rue could have been a great point and click adventure game but ended as a big frustrating mess.
