This game is a perfect to host an Online game night recently added to a rotation with a group of individuals and it was a blast. We are planning to get on it again next week. Definitely a fun way to get your community engaged.

I have loved Worms since the 90s, so Team17’s name carries weight with me. Golf With Your Friends is exactly the kind of casual game they have usually delivered for me: easy to start, easy to understand and fun without turning the evening into a job. There is no story and it does not need one. Pick a course, line up the shot, set the power and go. You can play alone or online with up to 12 players. The mouse controls are dead simple, but the courses make sure the game itself never becomes mindless. Calling these putt-putt courses barely covers it. Real-life putt-putt does not have you firing a ball through a space station, around pyramids, across pirate ships or through a full Worms course. More importantly, the themes are not just different backgrounds pasted onto the same holes. The Space Station has you shooting through tubes, avoiding air jets, riding moving platforms, dealing with black holes and trying not to get flattened by heavy machinery. Other courses send you flying over sections of the map, hide the route from view or give you more than one way to attack the hole. The free camera becomes useful because sometimes you genuinely have no clue where the hell you are supposed to go. This could easily have been the same 18 lanes wearing different skins. It isn’t. You can see the work that went into the layouts. The shot-power meter matters just as much as the angle. A fraction too soft and you fall short. A fraction too hard and you are back where you started with another stroke added to the growing evidence that you are ♥♥♥♥ at golf. Moving hazards are even worse. You swear the timing is right, take the shot and immediately discover that it was not. Some holes clearly have a hole-in-one route, but hitting it takes precision. Anything less can send you back to the beginning and crank that score up quickly. The courses are tricky rather than mechanically difficult. You are not learning fifty controls; you are learning the hole. That gives the game replayability because once a course embarrasses you, you want another run at it. Classic mode gives you two minutes or 12 shots per hole. Fail or forfeit and the scorecard records 14. I learned that by forfeiting an entire course because I thought it would only add two over par. It did not. The music fits each course properly. It seems to be one long repeating track for each theme, but the tracks have enough variation that I rarely noticed the loop. The art style is clean, colourful and suits the relaxed atmosphere. It is not graphically demanding, and it does not need to be. The course design is doing the heavy lifting. You can also give your ball hats, trails, floaties, stickers and other cosmetic nonsense. Nothing revolutionary, but it gives the ball some character. Playing alone is relaxing, but the title tells you what this is really built for. Get the boys together, add a few beers and find out who the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ golfer in the group is so everybody can berate him properly. I own the Ultimate Edition and have played every course included in it at least once. Some of them beat the ♥♥♥♥ out of me, but none felt lazy. I still want to go back and clean up the holes that embarrassed me. That is replayability. Easy recommendation.

For a game that came out 5 years ago you'd think they would've ironed out all the bugs and added much needed QoL updates by now but nope. There are still collision bugs, level design jank, text bugs with the letters "I" and "i", automatic username cencoring for some reason even when you play with friends on an INVITE ONLY server. If you have friends, find a somewhat polished party game to play together instead of this 8 dollar junk.

This game is absolute trash and it ruins friendships. If you have a friend that you don't like but you don't want to tell it to their face, play this game with them and they will start hating you after the first round. The game should be rather named "golf with your enemies".
