Peak. If there is one word to describe this game with, it’s PEAK. The movement is flawless, the graphics aged well for an isometric game, and the lore is just absolute cinema. I bought it because this was the only game of the series I could afford and which my PC could run, but it’s great for new players and fans of the sequel equally! Oh and don’t forget, Super Earth is innocent, Managed Democracy is good, and there is no war with the Illuminate.

Coming from hundreds of hours into Helldivers 2, Helldivers 1 has managed to hook me just as much, if not even more so into Arrowhead's flagship series. There's a bit of a learning curve and it can be extremely frustrating at times, but once you've learned and adapted to the mechanics and what you can and cannot do, it's absolute blast to play. Most of my time has gone into singleplayer, but there's a sizeable amount of people who still play online and my multiplayer experiences with random players have been very positive as well. The game gets VERY challenging, but does a decent job at teaching you how to play and adapt as you naturally progress the game and unlock better gear, even if you're new to top-down shooters. Word of advice though, DISABLE all of the dlc until you've got a good grasp at the game (around rank 15 or so) and DON'T use the Las-13 Trident at least until you've gotten the Las-5 Scythe. I managed to get to rank 29 without any of the dlc and it's been a lot more fun that way playing and unlocking everything regularly without its assistance. That's all not even mentioning the excellent worldbuilding and art direction of the game. The comedically dystopian and un-serious tone is still there like with HD2 as you'd expect, but it comes with smaller, but just as impactful things, like the tight user interface, flavor text, and ESPECIALLY the music which all just a few of many things that feels like its missing from the sequel (among other non-graphical stuff like an on-ship encyclopedia and a randomizer mode). The game also plays great on a controller or Steam Deck! Stratagem inputs may be a bit slower, but moving, aiming, shooting (and capespins) all perform smoothly and precisely, so it's been my go-to way to play throughout my time with the game. If you've got extra controllers, Helldivers makes for a great party game as well. Getting them together and playing with other family members was awesome and a lot of fun (even if we were bumping our heads into the wall most of the time) :] Since it goes on sale quite often for a steal of the price, there's usually a good time to check the game out to see if it's right for you. So if you're coming from HD2 and ready to tackle the horrors of the first galactic war, or looking for a challenging (and hilarious) experience with your friends, Helldivers 1 is the way to go.

Played it on ps vita, ps4 and now pc. I love this game, one of my all time favorites. The progression, gameplay, and immersion is amazing. And the co op play, going into a random lobby and fighting alongside other players. Worth every cent. You can find it on sale too a lot of the time for just a couple bucks. Enjoy

Love this game, easy to jump into missions, and bail out if you need to because, idk... kids. Fun, multiplayer both couch and online is fun.
