Hollowbody

I was going to praise the game. I really love "Silent Hill" and "Signalis" and that one doesn't hide that it was inspired. I was going to praise the designers for going to lenth of making 3D sound that you can only exprerience if you make not intended camera control - obviously not most of target audience. But the buggy mess of last third of the game combined with ancient save system ("nostalgia-like" >_> ) made me understand they had no respect for target audience. If I die because of tough fight - that's fair and shouldn't frustrate anyone. If I die because the game stopped answering commands to open the inventory or if I need to reload to the start of the chapter because I entered a place IN GAME THAT ENCOURAGES EXPLORATION then the proble is you, creators. Make normal modern saves or hire the bug testers (not the sub-minimum-wage ones). Fix the game - the review will change to thumbs up

I do love this game, but there are a lot of issues I have with it. First off, this game is a great horror game and the atmosphere/music were extremely well done. My issue is both the story and the saving of this game. There should be more saves. You can lose maybe an hour worth of progress if you dont backtrack a lot just to save and that can get very tedius. When it comes to the story, I feel the dev had more to say or do but didnt do it. The ending is extremely confusing, and a lot of questions were left unanswered. I would wait for a sale on this game. Its not bad at all, and I was LOVING the first 2 hours of gameplay, but does need some work

To me this game feels very atmospheric, has older resident evil games vibes, so PS1 era graphics with modern visual effects and stuff, which makes this game kinda nostalgic and all which is why i bought it, the story is probably good, i don't know really and never will probably because i played the first 7 hours and that's it, the fighting gameplay mechanic is very very clunky, plus some weird camera angles and enemies get blended with the environment you dont even notice them, i died a lot because of this clunkiness which ruined my immersion so i can't really recommend this game, but it is amazing that only one person was making it so i wouldn't refund the game even if i could just to support the dev since i even bought it discounted. I wish the dev all the best with theyr next game.

Obviously found the game, since i like RE and similar games. Only played about the first 2 - 3 hours of the game. The sound and atmosphere, matched with the fitting visuals is very very good and surely my favorite thing about the game. But is has very simple shooting mechanics and the puzzles tend to be quite unintuitive. Also the story is told in a very melancholic way, which i do not like very much. Also the archaic save system, combined with relatively stiff controls and limited healing/ammo is a deal breaker for me.

Hollow body is a solid survival horror game, with some interesting resource management decisions to make and an exceptional atmosphere. While it has a couple of rough spots, I do recommend it! It's fun, it's snappy, it's sweet. Pros of Hollow Body: - The inspiration clearly leans a bit more Silent Hill, aesthetically. You can tell, with the way this game depicts decay and rot. Extremely Silent Hill. - This game has excellent intentional camera angles. - Frankly, with how good those camera angles are, tank controls should be the default control scheme (that said, if you play tank controls, you should switch "run" and "reload." It's more comfortable to hold square to run than it is L1. L1 works for stick movement, but feels clunky on the control pad). - The monsters are interesting. Their behavior promotes using mixed melee and ranged combat, and a quick swap function (discussed lower) helps this gameplay style feel smooth. - This game uses fixed item placement rather than adaptive item placement, meaning your resources are defined from the start of the game. The game won't hold your hand, and poor play may force you to return to an earlier save, or even restart entirely. - There's one weapon that gives you its entire ammunition supply for the entire game the moment you pick it up. Extremely cool decision! Completely Neutral Points: - There's an interesting quick access menu that lets you hot swap between your melee and ranged weapons. It also has map access on it. - You can swap to a free-floating, third person camera perspective at any time, and also turn off tank controls and have your movement be camera relative. I think it's a worse way to experience the game for your first time, but it's cool on a second playthrough. Being able to really take in the detail with a more controlled camera is neat. - The ending you get is decided about 1/4 the way through the game, depending on if you're able to talk someone away from a ledge. It's an odd place for something as important as an ending change, but it's fine. The game is short enough you can just save before talking to that NPC and try different combinations before chasing the ending. Cons of Hollow Body: - The game clearly expects you to use control stick movement. There are a couple of inputs mapped to L3, which include quickly setting the camera behind you during the free-camera sections, and then a "look behind you" function for the final segment of the game. Tank controls feel worse on control sticks, where you're more likely to wobble back and forth between left and right. - Quick turn access is pretty bad. It's attached to the same quick menu that the weapons and map are on, and there's a notable delay for that menu to appear. It's typically faster to just use the rather swift rotation to spin around. - The fixed camera angles bug out sometimes, leaving you either accept an inferior player-controlled camera experience, or to navigate blindly. This can be a major issue during combat, and I did die during one combat segment due to this. - Randomised puzzles. I think if the solution to your puzzle can be randomised, it isn't a very interesting puzzle in the first place. - On the topic of puzzles, that's the one spot Hollowbody borrows more from Resident Evil in. You flip switches until a dial is in the right place and memorise names from a list. It's little surprise they were able to randomise the solutions to one of those puzzles. - There are very few save points. Once you approach the end, you'll find yourself relying on the autosave more than manual saves. - The second melee weapon in the game is nigh-unusable. I think half of the healing items I used were from me fumbling with that melee weapon. The first one is the only one you need. Again, though, it's a fun game. It's only a few hours long, it's got some teeth to its difficult and choices, and it's exceptionally atmospheric. It may have some little quibbles, but I think it's worth a play

Short, and sweet. Although It may just be me, I never found myself in any particularly scary, or rough situations. However, that is not to say the themes of this game aren't amazing, nor prominent in the real world. Government corruption, coverups, conspiracy, the big three C's play a massive part, and they play it well. I got the Riven ending, and it makes me feel as though a second game is plausible. I love the style, love the atmosphere/ambiance, feels a lot like balderunner while remaining its own thing. Characters are also few, but very nice. There is a lovely sense of comraderie from the get go. I do wish it had more stress-inducing moments and scares much more to my liking, but once again I don't think the lack of meaningful scares takes away from the horror that it is.

Atmosphere is this games strong suit. Combat is good enough, but the enviromental story telling is the true draw. Recommended for any survival horror fan.

Another great survival horror game. It reminds me of silent hill but it is it's own thing. Great job devs. Would love a second entry in the same universe.
