Horn of the Warlord
Horn of the Walord
Become a Viking warlord and forge a kingdom through conquest, expansion and war. Lead armies across a fractured medieval world, seize territory, besiege castles and outmaneuver rival rulers in a turn-based strategy game where every decision matters and every victory is earned.
Follow the journey of Jarl Eirik Stormborn and his sworn companion Torvald Ironhand as they leave Ravenmark behind and set sail in search of glory, wealth and new lands to conquer.
Build a Kingdom through conquest
Begin with a small realm and rapidly expand your influence across neighboring lands. Secure resources, grow your population and transform a modest stronghold into a kingdom capable of dominating the world.
Every region strengthens your war effort, providing the resources needed to sustain armies, develop castles and fuel further expansion.
• Conquer and control strategically valuable territories • Grow your population and economy • Secure food, wood, stone, iron and gold • Expand across diverse landscapes and terrain • Turn a minor kingdom into a dominant power
Outsmart your enemies
Victory belongs to the ruler who plans ahead.
Success depends on choosing the right battles, building effective armies and striking at the perfect moment. Terrain, army composition, troop readiness and timing can determine the fate of entire kingdoms.
Whether launching a lightning invasion or preparing for a prolonged war, every campaign demands careful planning.
• Counter enemy armies with superior compositions • Exploit terrain advantages during campaigns • Manage army readiness and fatigue • Choose when to advance and when to regroup • Master the art of strategic warfare
Besiege castles and break kingdoms
Castles are the backbone of every realm.
Upgrade fortifications to strengthen your defenses, unlock stronger units and secure your borders. When the time comes to attack, every siege becomes a strategic challenge requiring careful preparation and the right tools for the job.
A poorly planned assault can cost an army. A well-executed siege can bring down an empire.
• Build and upgrade powerful castles • Unlock stronger military units • Assault enemy strongholds using ladders, battering rams and trebuchets • Adapt siege tactics to every situation • Capture heavily fortified regions
Face a fair but ruthless AI
Every kingdom plays by the same rules.
The AI receives no free armies, hidden resources or artificial advantages. It expands, recruits, attacks and defends using the same systems available to the player.
If you lose, it is because your opponent outplayed you.
• No cheating AI • No hidden bonuses • Strategic decision-making driven by risk and reward • Three difficulty levels for different experience levels • Challenging opponents that reward mastery
Experience a Viking Saga

A chill, simple, intuitive strategy game wherein you can still execute complex strategies, but without the bloat or feature creep that plagues grand strats. UI, turn-to-turn game loop, and art style are intuitive, straightforward, and engaging. I definitely get "one more turn" and it's fun from beginning to end. COM/AI players feel balanced--challenging without feeling like cheaters (various difficulty options too). Mode variety and replayability are there in the full version with a wealth of campaign missions, scenarios, and more. Runs great, looks good, loads quickly. Tutorial is solid and you can get a hang of the game quickly. The solo developer is very communicative, works hard to consume and respond to feedback, and appears to have a passion for this game. It's RISK! expansion meets Catan economy with Civ units, or, much like Risky Strats if you've played that. I've seen a rare remark here or there that $15 is steep, but you can get hours and hours of quality game out of the demo. I spent seven hours in the demo and still didn't complete all the available content before deciding to get the full version, and I'm on a tight gaming budget. 10+ hours review (with 7+ hours in the demo)

Great game. Immersive visuals and audio just nail the cool viking wargame feel. There's a lot going on under the hood, so while it is an easy game to learn to play, mastering the game will take trial and error on what works best. You might feel at first a little unsure whether your army will win against an opponent, because there is no Paradox style tooltip that spoon feeds you the probabilities of winning this fight. Instead, like an old Viking king, you start to get a good intuitive feel for what enemy armies you can beat with yours or where you need to rush some reinforcements of some type to handle the enemy. There are a lot of tactical things you also learn to do in order to keep your army intact, where one bad battle can rip a hole in your kingdom's defenses. (Especially if you don't retreat quickly enough!) The dev is also super chill and responsive, willing to listen to players on feedback to see if it fits into his vision of where the game is going. I very much hope this game gets that marketing push that breaks through the noise and gets exposure to more people, because it really is a gem.

Great game! Has kept me engaged for hours at a time (including the demo, which isn't reflected in my playtime hours here). But can be played in short sessions as well, allowing you to play the campaign at your own pace. Had a few recommendations for the developer after playing the demo, and he responded very positively right away. He's already got most of the tweaks coming up in the update. Clean gameplay, graphics are spot-on in style, clarity and vivid depiction of each warrior type as well as the terrain. Just a good all-around immersive vibe. Strategic decisions are dependent on the tactical capabilities of the various troop types. As you progress, just because you CAN afford a higher tier unit doesn't mean you SHOULD buy it over a less expensive one. This is because each unit has inherent skills that you may need depending on your strategy and the situation of that particular army on the battlefield. For example, if I am fielding one of my armies for both conquering and then defending the castle I conquer, I choose to load up on the units that have siege labor ability as well as defense capability. So for example a large group of Spearmen, though technically less robust than a smaller group of knights, is perfect for the job because they can build the siege equipment necessary to conquer the fort or castle, and then occupy and defend, because their Spears have double attack value when they are defending. HOWEVER, depending on the state of your economy (based on the regions you've conquered), you may find that you are short on food production, and so as you progress, knights and royal guards are great because you only need to feed 50 knights rather than 200 spearmen, for example. Now that being said (regarding favoring certain unit types for different situations), I still must balance my armies with archers and/or crossbows (for armor piercing) and horsemen for flanking and pursuing retreating enemies. And it feels good when you get to the point of affording a sizeable group of royal guards in your army to put it over the edge of battlefield supremacy. At the same time, when you scout the enemy you may find he has them too, so you are in for serious fight. For me, the interplay between choosing your troops, growing your economic regions, choosing your fort and castle locations and upgrades (based on terrain), makes me appreciate the challenges and decisions a dark age or medieval commander had to face - and it makes for a very engaging and enjoyable game.

This is a simple yet deep turn-based medieval indie strategy game. The AI is excellent and doesn't cheat. Units are combined into armies, and battles take place on single tiles rather than being spread out on a one unit per tile basis like some games. The game mechanics are well thought out and make sense. While currently a single player game, I think multiplayer would be a good idea for the future.

I'm really enjoying this game. The presentation is cool and the art style is chef's kiss! I do hope as development continues, new resources come to play like iron being smithed by building a smithy building which then produces x amount of armor, weapons, shields. It would allow for high value territory to be taken and fought over. Population as a resource is also important and would love to see classes be implemented. Those things in mind please recommend this game as the design team has all the right refreshing ideas. OOOh also, let us create our own jarl lord. perks to support our armies!

I'm going to cvopy another review and add a little commentary: This is basically the old Vikings:Fields of Conquest with meaningfull upkeep rules to prevent doomstacking and vastly, vastly improved siege rules. Given it also has hotseat, it's as close to perfection as one can expect. This may look simple on the face of it, but it's actually a very good strategy game meant to not take too long. It plays similarly to many good board games where the short duration of the game simply means more meaningful moves and decisions, not less strategy. A very good game.
