My friend says this was the worst game he's ever played. But how can that be true? You play as Mr. Inbetween... oh, but I guess he had to play as the elf... nobody likes elves... everyone wants to be the man... the man... everyone... just ignore this games community page.

Hunted: THE DEMON'S FORGE is a game i remember just seeing places. Rental store when I was young, and also seeing it later when I was a conscious human at a flea market and going "what even is this crap". Not until recently when I saw I could get it for extremely cheap online that I was like "yeah okay, lets pour more knowledge in my Alexandria Brain". Hunted: THE DEMON'S FORGE is a game developed by InXile, who started by making that Bard's Tale game in 2004, then they made some flash games/mobile games until 2011 when this game was made. Then they made Wasteland 2, Tides of Numenera, and then get taken hostage by the bumbling entity known as Microsoft. In this first foray into a console game since 2004, they decided to make a co-op game where you actually "Work" together instead of just "play together" (the quotes they have on Wikipedia). What does this mean for the design of the game? Well Its what I wouldnt expect it to be, a cover shooter à la Gears of War, but with some hack and slash too. Even with the surprise factor of that, this game is pretty boring. I enjoy the pulpiness of the main characters being scantily clad hot fantasy guy and girl, but besides that it is a pretty generic Tolkien-esque fantasy setting form what I saw. Combat isn't great, as it has both hack and slash and Arrow Cover shooting it just flops on both ends with no oomph. There are kind of "neat" (in the context of a cover shooter) puzzles to solve in the maps, but the maps themselves are pretty meh to explore.

It was very very basic but I found the exploration and secrets enjoayble, and the battle was fun for most of the game until the story overstayed its welcome and the last two hours was a sprint to witness the story conclusion. The combat offers some variety letting you pick between a warrior that is strong in melee hack and slash with a rage bonus and a slow crossbow for limited ranged options, and a ranged elven ranger that is played as an FPS qucikdraw with aim assists, weak melee and magic aoe arrows. Both of the characters can use some spells and buffs to make their life easier. The companion ai ranges from standing there doing nothing as you get swarmed, getting stack under the floor in a tunnel until you trigger a door opening interaction, and storming through rooms beating everything on site, stealing your drops and discovering secrets you haven't even noticed. One time he got me a secret item that boosts stats from God knows where the minute I turned my back on him to survey a new room. There are some collectables to piece together the lore and story and others that boost stats, you also collect gold but sadly it is useless as it is used to buy things for... multiplayer? map creation mode? I am not sure, picking the option prompts you to log into a gamespy account, a site that has shut down. Overall, if you have no expectations from it and want to mindlessly alternate between hacking and shooting through hordes of reskinned goblins while listening to the banter of two mercenaries traveling through half the world in an attempt to get paid, you might enjoy it. If you want something fantasy oriented and more interactive or deep with actual mechanics in it I would suggest you pick something else.

The game isnt bad at all, it has a few problems, though: bullet travel is AWFUL, the arrow is very fast but doesnt at the time it should, so its nearly impossible to hit a moving target and the hitboxes are WAY off. It's a pretty easy game. Now, the reason im giving a negative review is because it does not warn you about the sleg, i mean, it's not that it doesnt warn you what it does, it just doesn't warn you the little urn you're seeing is the sleg. You interact with it and it doesn't ask you if you want to drink it, they just do, this simply awful because this mechanic has MAJOR implications in the game.
