I ended up replaying this game for the first time since 2016. Back in 2016, I thought that this was the weakest of the mainline Neptunia series, and that I thought that the original PS3 game - Hyperdimension Neptunia mk2 - was overall better. With a fresh perspective in 2026 after not playing this game for 10 years, has that opinion shifted? Honestly...no. I still think this is the weakest game in the mainline Neptunia series. And I still think that, despite using the same mechanics as Victory & Re;Birth1, that this game is inferior to its original PS3 counterpart. HOWEVER, that does not mean I think that Re;Birth2 is bad overall. The story has, surprisingly, aged rather well and feels just as punchy as it did previously, but I am severely disappointed in some of its writing. The re-translation of Re;Birth2 compared to mk2 just feels...stale and outdated. It's filled with lots of cringe-worthy meme writing that sometimes strays incredibly far from the source material. It's bad to the point that you can immediately notice that this was definitely made in 2015 or earlier. The translation specifically has aged horribly. I highly recommend getting the retranslation patch for this game. It largely fixes all of the issues with the base translation and makes it more consistent with the themes of the story while largely keeping in tact. It also brings it much closer in line with mk2's translated script. Even better than that perhaps. There's also the glaring issue of this being the worst Neptunia game in terms of...suspicious content. Back in 2016, as a 17-year old, I didn't think much of some of the CGs in this game. 10 years later though...yeesh, to call them uncomfortable is honestly an understatement. This is definitely one game you don't want to play around other people. There's nothing explicitly NSFW in this game, but there is content that will, at the very least, make people raise an eyebrow at you. But looking past all that - the game itself, the part you're going to be doing 80% of the time - remains fun. I had no problem diving back into the game as I did all those years ago and just enjoyed my time with it. While playing this game on my rerun of it, I instantly remembered why I liked this series as much as I did when I first got into it 11 years ago. The gameplay itself has aged remarkably well, to the point it's still engaging and fun, despite having played a plethora of better JRPGs since then. Sure, the dungeons constantly repeat in terms of layout and the enemy variety is laughably low, the engagement the game itself offers is enough to keep you tethered for several playthroughs. The reason I say that this game's gameplay loop falls short of the original PS3 release, being Hyperdimension Neptunia mk2, is the fact that this version just feels too easy and kind of repetitive. Double-so if you're going into this game immediately after playing Re;Birth1, in which case you'll just feel like you're playing a reskin of it with an additional character slot. I can't lie, I was having fun with this game again. It felt good to revisit. Despite this game's shortcomings...I'd still recommend it honestly. Especially considering this game isn't as expensive as it used to be. Back in the day, I remember paying something like 40€ just for the game without DLC. Now it's about a tenner, with it going on discount on a regular basis. Grab the retranslation patch and if you can stomach some of the more "sus" content in this game, I still think this is a JRPG worth getting. Even if I think the PS3 original is better, I understand not everyone has access to that version, so Re;Birth2 is still worth getting. Should also mention that this game is perfect for something like a Steam Deck if you have one. My entire playthrough was done entirely on that. I just recommend swapping the functions of the A & B buttons around.

A good sequel to the first game! Basically did everything the first did, but a little better. A lot of focus was on the new candidate characters, but it was still fun to play nonetheless. Some characters didn't return from the last game, making the continuity feel off, but it continues the story and lore for the series. Wouldn't be a bad entry to start with, since they reexplain characters and such, but it's recommended to start with the first since it deals with the main four goddesses more.

After Re;Birth 1 gave us the CPUs in full chaotic glory, Sisters Generation shifts the spotlight to the younger siblings (the handhelds) and it works, mostly because Nepgear is genuinely easy to root for. She's earnest, she tries too hard and still carries the weight of not being Neptune. Gameplay-wise though if you played Re;Birth 1, you've played this. Same dungeons, same battle system, same structure, they've essentially rebuilt the first game with the candidates in the driving seat don't come in expecting reinvention. Where Neptunia delivers is the writing. You're not here for the plot… you're here for the characters bouncing off each other, and the Makers especially are a highlight. The way each one quietly references the real-world company they represent without ever breaking the fourth wall too hard is pretty good. It rewards you for knowing your stuff or the ability to have a phone and look it up when they appear. If you liked the first one, you'll like this. If you didn't, this won't change your mind. It knows exactly what it is and doesn't apologise for any of it. 7 Neps out of Nep-Nep.
