I Am Setsuna
This is the story of Setsuna; a young woman of incredible inner strength and the sacrifice she must make to save the people of her land.
The Island had a custom. To maintain peace, once a decade, a sacrifice was offered to a fiend on the island.
However, one year, the fiend grew violent before the next sacrifice was due. Those living on the island were afraid and tried to calm the fiend by offering a sacrifice; Setsuna, chosen because of her powers of enchantment.
Setsuna must leave with her safeguards for the farthest land, where the ceremony of sacrifice will be held.

Summary: A game that does not have any stand out features, and those that do are not positive. Note: I did not finish this game, it is possible (but unlikely) that it gets amazing at the end and redeems itself of all criticisms below. Combat: The combat did not really iterate in any meaningful way over its spiritual inspiration (Chrono Trigger). The game difficulty is also very uneven, I was skating through the game until I bumped into very challenging bosses twice. In one instance, the game does not allow you to do anything else except fight the boss, so I thought I was soft locked. In the other instance, online discourse suggests leveling up about 6 levels from where I was. The game's systems do try to innovate on the genre, but execution is poor. One example is the momentum system in combat: the timing for the button is not consistent so it is easy to miss it, especially if you queue party member actions. Another example is the item system of loot that drops from battles. Some items are freely sellable for currency, some should be retained as ingredients for food and spritnite. Without knowing which is which, it takes a while to realize that green items should be saved. The weapon upgrade system is also explained early, but there is no point interacting with it for at least half of the game since a weapon upgrade/sidegrade is available at almost each new town Music: The piano-only music is clearly a conscious decision; however, I think completely misses the mark and sounds very underdeveloped, as if the studio did not hire a music producer or full suite of instruments. Level design: This is also largely uninspired; in the same way that many medieval fantasy games can be criticized as over use of grays and browns, the snow setting of this game means that it is mostly whites. The game also makes the brave choice of having white sparkles for items, on the aforementioned white palette ground, making these difficult to find. If you stand very close to them, the controller will vibrate, but this could have been completely avoided with a different design choice. There was one area that stood out as different, potentially implying an advanced technology under a cave/mountain, with levitating platforms, but there was no explanation about this area. Lore: The game's story teases interest, although it falls into very tired tropes (mysterious shadowy dark pursuer) and is uneven in narrative beats (I felt like I played very long sessions without getting any character interaction or story progression. The story doesn't seem inherently bad, but it is not enough to hold a player through lacking gameplay. Conclusion: This game is a disappointment that I don't have the interest in playing through fully, let alone playing through multiple times. The aspects of the game familiar to turn based jrpg gamers do not distinguish themselves positively from peers of the past (Chrono Trigger, Lost Odyssey) or more recent entires to the genre (Octopath Traveler, Claire Obscur), and its experimental ideas are executed poorly. With all its flaws, I rate this a 2/10.

A nice & short RPG that reminded me of Chrono Trigger for some reason. (Probably because the combat system is similar.) The music is perhaps too heavy on the piano but nonetheless nice to listen to. With the right Spritnite combinations, you can trivialize everything in the game. (Though some grinding is needed.) The story is okay, and it's enjoyable if you don't put too much expectation into it.

PROS: - Beautiful story. - Interesting characters. - Lovely music. - Adorable world. - Simple and straightforward combat system CONS: - While I like that the combat system is straightforward and simple, I don't prefer its time-based approach over traditional turn-based combat. It puts unnecessary pressure on the player to make quick decisions instead of allowing them to calmly and carefully consider their next move.

I agree it's not for everyone, but this still is a very charming JRPG in a winter wonderland and an all-piano OST. It has a lot to offer IF you play it with love and choose to believe in its magic. As a fan of the Chrono series, the elements in this game that were inspired by that series are done tastefully. In this day and age, it's a whole different feeling seeing homages being paid to the classics. The only things I hated were the lack of autosave and we never saw Endir without his mask

I have no recollection of ever owning this game, let alone playing it. Looks lame as hell. Eskimos wandering around looking at trees and ♥♥♥♥.
