In Stars and Time
What would you do if you were forced to relive your failures over and over again?
In Stars and Time tells the story of Siffrin and their adventurer friends—a found family bound together by fate in order to end the tyrannical reign of an evil king. But as victory is just within the party’s grasp, a tragedy occurs, the clock resets, and they have to do it all again .
As Siffrin’s the only one who notices this loop, each new start wears away at his cheerful veneer, yet he keeps going in hopes he can end this temporal tragedy once and for all.
In Stars and Time is a time-looping RPG adventure . With each loop, Siffrin gains a new perspective on the world around them, opening up new solutions to puzzles and allowing them to make better choices in conversation. Equip memories as armor, pray to the Change God to improve your team’s capabilities each loop, and challenge deadly foes to Rock, Paper, Scissors as Siffrin seeks the truth.

I never thought that there could exist a game that would make me cry harder than OneShot did, but oh boy was I wrong. In Stars And Time is a masterpiece. There are very few games that made me feel guilty for buying them while they had a discount, and this is one of them. I haven't met a singular person in my life who I wouldn't recomend this game to.

Look, I wanted to like this game. I REALLY wanted to like this game. It's got great music, unique visuals, a fun premise that I've seen done well in other stories... BUT IT'S JUST SO BORING. I know that backtracking is a core part of the game's appeal, and it's supposed to give you a chance to find new details you never noticed before, but 1: most of those details are things you probably DID notice and just interacted with too early, 2: the gameplay loop gets incredibly tedious and boring, since it never innovates or does anything to shake up your play-through (I'm aware it's intentional, but that doesn't make it less annoying. You can show something's tedious for characters without making it tedious for the player), 3: the main setting is incredibly same-y and sterile with almost nothing to make it engaging to go through a dozen times, and 4: I just never felt that emotionally attached to the characters. Like, even when you finally get the chance to interact with them and progress their personal stories (which happened about 10 hours in for me), once those 10-15 minute segments are done, that's about all they get personally for the rest of the story. Basically none of it's ever weaved into the actual narrative, since most of it's so intentionally cookie cutter to feed into it's 'Typical JRPG with a shocking twist' schtick. I wouldn't say any of them were annoying per-say, but it definitely never got me invested enough to care when the time loop shenanigans finally started catching up with me and affected my friendships with them (which didn't happen until i was almost 19 HOURS IN). Ultimately, though, the main thing that sours the whole experience for me is the time sink, since, if this were a 5-6 hour condensed story that stuck to prioritizing important events and used the time loop system in a way that didn't require massive backtracking (even with the few provisions they currently have in place), I could've forgiven it's flaws and called it a fun 6/10 with room for improvement. BUT. This made me slog through 20 hours of incredibly repetitive content with only short reprieves for actual story content until the last 2-3 hours, and as someone who tries to value the quality of a game's content over it's quantity? I was in denial by hour 5, angry by hour 8, hoping there'd be a meaning at the end by hour 10, depressed by hour 14, and accepted I'd just wasted my time by hour 20. I though the story it told was fine, but the pacing? Sorta unforgiveable.

I think the concept is interesting and fun, but the thing is it's a double edged sword. I initially thought the concept was original, but then realized why most other games don't adopt this idea. It makes the game unavoidably repetitive unfortunately. The game added in a feature to make it less torturous, but it is still tedious. As someone who despises seeing the same things multiple times, it was kinda painful. It's more painful when you have to consciously do it yourself because the game indirectly forces you to. Also, personally, I found the dialogues a bit too cringe and so reading the dialogues wasn't very pleasant either. I think it's visually appealing and the characters are well designed though. I don't think it's a bad game. It just wasn't to my taste. I can imagine someone with a different taste might enjoy this. I would've rated it neutral if it was an option.

An extremely thought provoking game with an art style/music that fits the game's atmosphere perfectly. It's truly a genuinely special experience.

This is quite possibly one of if not the best game I have ever played. It is so expertly and lovingly crafted, every little detail is so well thought out and executed, and it transports you directly into Siffrin, the main character, and their feelings. It is wholesome, emotional, heartbreaking, unsettling, and the most incredible story that I've ever had the joy of experiencing. The fights are engaging in all the right ways for the game, the mechanics easy to grasp but fun to finesse, and they have the perfect effect when put in conjunction with their impact on the story. The characters are so lovingly thought out and developed through the entirety of the story, each of them with a whole personality that impacts their interactions with the world in a way that is so real and truthful to humanity. Their stories and the way they conclude is so complete, no part of their characters is left up in the air. Without any spoilers, as the game progresses and you near the very end, there is a climax that impacts both story and gameplay in a way that is so satisfying and meaningful. The soundtrack is so perfectly matched to every single part of the game. It sets the tone, emotion, impacts how you feel about certain occurances, and swells the emotion in every given instance where it matters. You are not just playing a game and watching a story- you are in the game, and you are directly responsible for how you experience it. I can't recommend this game enough. Every single cent is worth it.

Huge disappointment. I gave it a go, but I really don't understand the praise for the writing. It's constant apologies, constant reassurance, constant “you can do it.” After a while, the characters start sounding like they've all been handed the same script about how to be supportive. Everything feels so carefully softened. Let characters disagree, be blunt, say the wrong thing. Let an uncomfortable moment actually be uncomfortable. Having everyone reassure each other all the time doesn't automatically make a story emotionally deep. For me, it made the dialogue artificial, repetitive and frankly exhausting. The gameplay didn't make up for it either. I wasn't having fun, and the writing wasn't giving me a reason to push through. I'll be much more careful about relying on Steam reviews in future. Clearly, glowing reviews don't mean I'll enjoy what a game actually offers. I'll also pay closer attention to the standard refund limits: 14 days from purchase and under two hours played. If I can't actually try a game soon after buying it, I'm skipping the sale. Saving a few euros isn't worth buying something I end up regretting.
