Iron Sky: Invasion

1 / 8

Do not be afraid. Or maybe do.

In 1945, a group of Nazis escaped to the dark side of the Moon. There they waited, built a secret moon base, and spent more than 70 years planning a comeback absolutely nobody asked for. Bad ideas rarely disappear on their own.

In 2018, they finally made their move: the Fourth Reich attacked Earth. From lunar orbit came an invasion fleet proving that, with enough Helium-3, megalomania can apparently become spaceworthy. Humanity faced an overwhelming threat — and, as usual, the rescue plan was alarmingly improvised.

That is where you come in.

Take control, pilot, and fight the Moon Nazis in Earth’s orbit in Iron Sky: Invasion. Explore an open space map, survive enemy attack waves, complete missions, upgrade your ships, and prove that one elite pilot can sometimes be the difference between “Earth saved” and “historically catastrophic relapse, now with spaceships.”

Become the next legend of space combat — or at least the person who survives long enough to face the Götterdämmerung in the final battle.

Key Features:

Dozens of missions centered on the invasion of the Fourth Reich

Seamless open-world space battlefield between Earth and the Moon — unfortunately, exactly where the Moon Nazis are currently invading

Five different playable spacecraft : Dundee, Spitfire, Banzai, Canadarm³, and Xerg, each with its own strengths, weaknesses, and combat roles

Lasers, missiles, plasma weapons, and tactical nuclear arguments against historically questionable targets

Defend satellites, space stations, and the last remaining scraps of orbital order

Dogfights, capital-ship assaults, and everything else the Moon Reich has coming

Resource management and wreckage salvage from anything that does not explode fast enough

Energy distribution between engines, shields, and weapons — because survival is sometimes just a matter of priorities

Extensive ship upgrade system in the hangar with over 100 possible combinations

Around 90 minutes of video content , including film scenes, full-screen intros, and desperate distress calls from orbital crisis control

Mission briefings featuring cast members from the Iron Sky film , including Julia Dietze, Stephanie Paul, Claus Wilcke, and Irshad Panjatan

Allied and enemy ships from the Iron Sky universe, including Walkyrs, Zeppelins, and the Götterdämmerung

Sweeping orchestral soundtrack for the proper end-of-the-world mood in Earth’s orbit

Moon Nazis. In space. Unfortunately, not a misunderstanding.

This is a very unique sector-defence, arcade space combat title that I HAVE BEEN TRYING TO PLAY SINCE 2014. It's virtually unplayable on keyboard and a controller is a must. Between yesterday and 2014 I have downloaded this game multiple times but I was never to progress in the campaign due to control issues (mostly non-responsiveness); that changed yesterday and today I beat the game at about 10hrs of playtime in the campaign. Invasion's strong suit is the gameplay. It reminds me of Battlefront II space battles but colossal in size and scale—the theatre between the Earth and the Moon—where many different battles are simultaneously taking place. The AI is intelligent and merciless (on both sides). There's an OK selection of ships available to deploy (true to the movie), and the energy distribution system adds another layer to combat. The economy and upgrading system here are primitive, unlike what the game suggests by "extensive ship upgrade system in the hangar with over 100 possible combinations" in the game description. NOT ACCURATE, and it's unclear what these combinations are because this is no Luftrausers. What this game does well is add more to the storytelling during the Meteorblitzkrieg, and give it more depth and screen time, with dedicated dialogue from the movie's protagonists. A lot of effort and love were clearly expended in developing this. You can't truly appreciate this if you haven't seen the movie, nor should you be here if you haven't. (I wouldn't). The dialogue and comedic nature of much of this game is cheesy, gimmicky, silly, over the top and outright flirtatious—much like in the movie (I recommend it less for the comedy and more for the sci-fi, but this is not a Letterboxd review). Both the movie and the game were released in 2012. The movie was by no means a box office success and the game seems to have flopped harder, albeit I find Iron Sky: Invasion worth a shot. The one thing I fail to understand about this game is the swastika censorship (unless it’s for distribution reasons). Also, keep in mind that about 30% of achievements here are broken. I had to rely on SAM for the first time ever to trigger some and ended wiping up all by accident. Ugh.
