A certified RGG banger. To be honest,I was a bit skeptical at first before playing out this game but let's start with the good, then the bad, then the ugly. The GOOD: -One of if not the best main story in any RGG game, might edit this in the future after will be playing it's sequel, but as it stands right now,I consider this one the best entries in terms of the story itself that intrigued me ever since Chapter 1. -Substories or Side Cases as they are reffered to in this game, while not that many compared to your average Yakuza game, they are pretty damn good and memorable, even if for the wrong reasons eg. Pervert Trio. -The cast is pretty memorable, especially Kaito,he is my favorite in this game not gonna lie,he is such a goofball but one you can trust and basically uses Kiryu's Brawler/Beast styles from 0. Alongside perhaps the best antagonists in the whole franchise, their competition being old man who never learns from 0,a certified 10 years guy from Y1 and dragon tall guy from Y2 but outside of those, the antagonists from Judgment really put the others to shame. -Soundtrack is great, especially the final boss theme which I am not gonna put it here for obvious reasons duh,but outside of that, there is the "generic" boss theme that is a certified banger (IYKYK) and other good pieces like the cutscene themes or certified themes. -Presentation is fantastic, immersing yourself in the detective fantasy formula,so if you are looking for something more realistic like eg. LA Noire,I am afraid that this might not be the game for you chief, but if you don't care about realism like most do nowadays, then you can easily lose yourself in this game, and some of the dynamic intros in certain boss fights and dynamic QTEs too being so damn good. -For once combat doesn't suck Koi balls in the Dragon Engine (I only played K2 and 7 before this),despite feeling rather slow for the first few chapters,by the time you reach the mid and especially endgame,it will feel good and even some things I still learn or needs actual skill to use properly in a fight and both Yagami's styles Tiger and (to a lesser extent) Crane offer lots of options in combat depending if you are fighting typical trash mobs or bosses, letting those with creative minds dominate the battlefield. If you don't believe me,just search No Damage for Judgment and you truly will see some RAD sh!t. -Yagami's sassiness. The BAD: -No staple minigames like Karaoke or fishing exists in this game, while the latter can be excused, the former absolutely not, imagine going karaoke with the GOAT aka Kaito by your side and enjoying a good time. -Crane being powercrept as you advance through the game, since it doesn't have it's own exclusive upgrades like Tiger,so by the end you will only use it for EX Boost or certified heat actions that are locked to it. -EX Boost is busted in this game, alongside making you sonic fast, you also get special exclusive rush combos and heat actions to it which that isn't bad but the cherry on top is...you get God mode during it,now you might see why this is busted lol. -The way Mortal Wounds is implemented, while I can appreciate a mechanic like this that punishes the player for being reckless against bosses, your only way is to go to the north side of the map to the Dr. Doofenshmirtz of Kamurocho to heal your wounds which can get tiring to say the least. -Not being able to use/store weapons, while I get it from a lore context that Yagami wouldn't really use sh!t like knives or pistols in fights, the same could be said for the other protagonists of the series and you can still use weapons that would DEFINITELY kill your average person with that kind of heat action irl. So I don't see the reason for this limitation that much. The UGLY: -Trailing missions...while I can understand why they exist here and make more sense, they aren't and will never be fun,and specially the last few ones in the story can be infuriating to say the least since the AI can be unpredictable at times. Curse you Rockstar and Ubisoft for popularizing the worst archetype of mission for every other game developer. -Yagami in the upgrade icons and some cutscenes aka the "Previously..." ones you still see his PS4 model being used...what the fu- -Some of the upgrades makes you question if they even playtested the game or what made them thought they were a good idea at all, like the vibrating ones being a console exclusive since your keyboard doesn't shake duh or smoking to regen heat, being really, really slow. -Gaining heat is typically slow if you play normally but you can learn how to cheese it at least but the normal way is way too slow and something like taunting barely gives you any heat. Cheesiest way is if you know a story boss fight is coming, you can trigger a random encounter and use one of those items that instantly kill every trash enemy since it will put your heat gauge to the max,I didn't even noticed that till like midway of the game lmao Conclusion: While not a perfect game,no game truly can be that,I can still overlook some of it's flaws (The BAD category specifically), I still found myself enjoying the game for 80-90% of my playtime with it and I consider RGG's best game in the franchise even if it is a spin off and yes,I will consider it even better than the most popular entry in the franchise aka Yakuza 0,sue me if you don't like it. In the end,I gotta thank my kyodai who bought me this game as a bday gift,as he watched me play through it and enjoying it as much as I do despite only being a spectator,he will try it out too in the future, that's how good the game is. 9 out of 10

Like a Dragon 7 Yakuza 0 Yakuza 5 Yakuza 4 Yakuza 6 Yakuza 2 Like a Dragon 7 JUDGMENT Yakuza 1 Yakuza 3

Judgment is pretty good spin-off of the Yakuza series. No, wait, let me rephrase that. Judgment is a Yakuza game. Quite literally. Same skeleton, different skin. They managed to recycle a LOT of content from older games, including stuff like the chasing minigame from 4 and 5. But it's a very good chapter of the series, although its full of nitpicks that sour the experience. The gameplay at first feels like it will be a bit different from the main series, with a slower, more tactical fighting system since you aren't the powerhouse Kiryu was. Then you get one speed and power upgrade and you are back at Kiryu levels of speed and damage. You get two stances, one that is supposed to be area damage and one focused damage, but I really didn't feel it. Both work fine on all occasions, the Tiger stance feels to have more moves though. You have a bunch of cool moves like wall jumps and vaults that give you some cool mobilty, feeling like a mix of Akiyama and Kiryu's moveset. The story is actually pretty good! Yagami and his very tight pants are a refreshing new player character. The support cast is also pretty good. I was surprised on the direction it went and it sure was a breath of fresh air for the story to be more than (mostly) Yazuka clans fighting. Of course, it fell in some predictable plot points and you could figure out the bad guys the first time they show up. My problem with the game are several small problems that amount to a very bad stain on the overall fun. Some include: - Mortal wounds: Some enemies (mostly minibosses and bosses) can do a strong attack that causes extra damage AND reduces your max health. You need to go out of your way to get a medkit or ask a doctor in one particular place to heal you. This gets very bad when one very recurrent miniboss shows up. - Excessive time wasting: Some stuff in this game really requires you to lose time for very small rewards. Side stories, NPCs and a lot of other stuff require you to walk everywhere, pick a lot of random items and get a lot of money to progress. Extracts are a nightmare with the mount of materials you need, and they work for like 20 seconds, which is a shame because they give you some insane new skills, but the time required isn't worth the results. - Too many fights: Everywhere you walk, there are enemy NPCs waiting for you. You try to walk around them, a new group spawns. This gets very bad when the minibosses show up, that increases the amount of enemies in the map until you defeat them or wait like 10 minutes for them to go away. The rewards are terrible and eventually you have no reason to fight them. - Blockfest: Every enemy can block your attacks. You can maybe hit one or two times before the enemy blocks and cancels your combo. Which really sucks because you can do some very long combos, but since everyone can block it, you never get to use them. - Too grindy: The upgrade system uses activity points to buy skills. Some are cheap, but a lot cost more than 1000 points, the most expensive more than 15000. You really don't get much from fights, so you need to complete random activities to get more. Nearly everything has a point reward. A lot of stuff requires money, and if you don't use a mod or cheat to skip it, you are looking at spending HOURS doing the VR missions to get some money. You are looking at 50 million or more to get all the stuff you can use money on. - Missable content: A lot of achievements and items can be missed. Unless you knew about them beforehand, some achievements require you to do stuff on your first try, or wait until the last second to do others. The game doesn't explains how to get some unlocks, like some special moves that you need to unlock by playing the VR minigame, then spend millions to unlock the long courses, then land on a specific spot, then do a minigame, THEN complete the VR minigame without failing. - Completionist HELL: To get all achievements, you need to do a LOT of stuff in the game, like winning 30 shogi games, 60 mahjong games, defeat all Virtua Fighter levels (with the cheating, input reading, auto counter, extra damage AI!), get all missable achievements, finish every store list, defeat 3000 enemies, 50+ million yen, all drone parts, the list goes on and on. - Tailing missions: Oh god WHY do they exist? Literally all you do is walk slowly for 5 minutes, hiding behind props and hoping the NPC AI doesn't freaks out and gets stuck in a loop. Its a major waste of time that adds nothing to the game. Its a good game, but has some pains that come from other Yakuza games. Didn't had any glitches other than music missing from the drone races due the amount of crashing noises and some weird camera problems when you finish/reset a mission.
