The first game was already a huge and enjoyable experience, and they increased the fun even more while keeping the core of the game intact but added more to it. The game is how I expect a sequel to turn out to be, the graphics, battle system and combat, and all around it feeling like playing Grimrock I but with enhancements, quality of life changes, and additions to give yet another experience. If you've played the first game, the sequel will feel like being at home. The simple addition of custom portraits for your party members was already a sweet discovery within the first minute of playing. Different classes, races, and a few new skills giving you plenty of options how to approach the game with your party. And the more you discover, the more options you get offered if wanting to build your characters in a direction to your comfort levels. And from how I felt and thought about some of the puzzles and solutions, I feel they've put a lot of thought into how to not punish players for objectively bad decisions or even making progress more difficulty than needed. And this is something I can appreciate a lot. The term of being a dungeon crawler doesn't fully apply to some degree as compared to the first game, you won't only be in dungeons this time, offering more variety, colorful places, enhancing the visuals nicely with different areas. Which in the end felt like you have more choices about which places you go to without a specific order required, and that is good to me. It was noticeable that they ramped the difficulty a bit up from the first game, putting you into spicy situations at times which were challenging but didn't feel impossible to solve. Expect that you may need some reloads of your save to get through some areas. And compared to the first game which felt more like the puzzles are more geared towards finding secrets and treasures, the sequel here included more of those into actual progress. There will be times when you may be stuck with a puzzle to advance but feel rewarding when you figured out the solutions. The music tracks are, again, on a lower number, continuing to focus more and strong on the atmosphere of the areas and dungeons, enhancing the vibes you get from those. But some of the music tracks you'll come across are quite intense, nicely done, and really makes it clear in what situation you're in. I love those a lot. While I didn't have issues with limited food or resources in the first game, the sequel offers areas to have respawns of enemies which can drop items you need for your survival again so even if someone may end up using a lot of food through the playthrough, you have your options to not run out of those. Simply, yet another quality of life change to not feel pressured into saving every single step you do when your resources aren't limited. To me, the game didn't throw anything negative at all into my face which is a very rare thing to happen. I enjoy to spend my time with difficult situations or puzzles which require me to take a break and give some thoughts if I can't see the solution right on. But this may not be everyone's cup of coffee, the puzzles often including to think around the corner, understand what they want you to do, or require logic. If you like those kind of puzzles, you'll surely have a good time with those. If not, and constantly needing to look up solutions, I feel a big part of the charm of the game will get lose on your end so you have to decide whether that's something good or bad for you. I've played on normal but like mentioned, there are some spicy situations which can be harsh to deal with and take a few tries until getting out of those. May or may not be to everyone's liking, but you have three difficulties to pick from for a reason. And like with the first game, you have mods with new dungeons, other QoL changes, and more as an option just like with the first game. So more adventures await you if you seek more without just changing your party members. Without a doubt, the sequel stayed true to what it is and didn't change the core of its philosophy but simply expanded an already amazing game. My number one recommendation for a dungeon crawler goes to Grimrock I and II together. If you enjoyed games like Eye of the Beholder and similar ones, you want to give Grimrock a go for sure. Love the series a lot! ♥

Awesome borderline open world blobber / dungeon crawler that really impressed me with its scale, level design, and great looking art. A huge step forward over the original, which I also enjoyed. The first zone is a bit dull, so give it a few hours.

It's been a game style I got addicted to during Nintendo and Super Nintendo. My favorite game on Super Nintendo was Eye of the Beholder. This game is like it, however, far more challenging, entertaining, and feelings of victory. For anyone who likes dungeon scrollers, both Legend of Grimrock are legit. This second one is certainly more challenging for me. But I'll keep coming back to it.

A genius game. The exploration is exciting. The riddles are great. Just the combat often feels a bit unfair at some points. Also toss away your pride: you will need to savescum this game or leave in frustration. Where is my part 3 of the game, devs? T_T

A nice successor to the first game, but I had the feeling it was slightly rushed and undercooked in some of the smaller details. For example, the game never really explains what the Rites of the Moon book does, or what bonuses you get from completing six-piece equipment sets. There are also a few awkward balance/mechanics issues. Evasion sometimes feels like it barely works at all, even at 70+, while frost damage can occasionally spike to ridiculous levels despite having all resistances at 100. That said, the riddles and secrets are where the game really shines, and they more than make up for these issues.

I came across this game when I searched for "Games like Might & Magic blobbers" and I am NOT disappointed one bit! I went in completely blind, and I am having a BLAST with this. I'm almost sad I didn't play Grimrock I first. Oh well - I guess I'll have some fun trying out some custom maps afterwards. 10/10 you guys, really looking forward to Grimrock III !
