I genuinely regret spending money on Madden NFL 27. I have bought Madden year after year hoping that eventually this franchise would turn a corner. Every year I tell myself maybe this will finally be the one where they clean everything up, listen to the community, polish the basic gameplay, and deliver an NFL game that actually feels finished. I was a fool for thinking anything would change. This is a franchise published by a MULTI-BILLION-DOLLAR COMPANY. Madden is not some early-access football game being developed by twelve people in a basement. This is one of the biggest sports franchises in gaming, backed by enormous resources and an exclusive NFL license, and somehow we are still dealing with problems that should be unacceptable for a full-priced annual release. Basic football mechanics STILL don't consistently work. Catching a football should work. Blocking should work. Defenders should react to the football. Players shouldn't randomly ignore their assignments. Menus and settings should work correctly. And an UPDATE certainly shouldn't make me wonder whether I accidentally installed a completely different game. I finally got Madden 27 configured to where I could actually enjoy it. I spent time adjusting my gameplay settings and sliders until I found something that felt good. Then an update comes along and suddenly my settings are reset and the gameplay feels completely different. Awesome. Now I'm watching wide-open receivers drop passes when the game itself tells me I threw a PERFECT pass and made a PERFECT timed catch. I've watched a perfectly timed interception go straight through my defender's hands. Seriously, what is the point of a skill-based catching system if executing the mechanic perfectly doesn't reliably reward the player? If I mistime a catch, punish me. If I make a terrible read, intercept me. If I throw into double coverage, make me regret it. If I hold onto the football for five seconds, destroy my quarterback. THAT'S FOOTBALL. But when I make the correct read, throw an accurate ball to a wide-open receiver, perfectly execute the mechanic YOU DESIGNED, see "PERFECT" appear on my screen, and then watch my receiver drop the football anyway, what exactly am I supposed to learn from that? Apparently the lesson is that my input doesn't matter. That's not difficulty. That's not realism. That's just frustrating game design. And catching isn't even the only problem. Blocking has been inconsistent. Defensive players sometimes behave like they've never seen a football before. Animations can seemingly override what should logically happen on the field. Players get sucked into interactions. Receivers drop passes they should catch. Defenders miss plays they should make. CPU behavior can go from completely incompetent to superhuman depending on the situation. Then there are all the little bugs, glitches, weird presentation issues, menu problems, settings issues, and general lack of polish that continue appearing year after year. How many years does EA need? Seriously. How many Madden games have been released at this point? How many billions of dollars does a company need before expecting the BASIC FUNDAMENTALS OF A FOOTBALL VIDEO GAME to consistently function is considered reasonable? This isn't Madden 07. We aren't playing on a PlayStation 2. It is 2026. There is absolutely no excuse for a franchise this large, with this much money, this many years of development history, and this much access to player feedback to still feel like it's constantly trying to figure out the fundamentals of football gameplay. And that's what makes it even more frustrating: sometimes Madden 27 actually CAN be fun. You get everything adjusted correctly, find the right settings, learn the mechanics, get into a Franchise, and start having a good time. You think, "Okay, maybe we're finally getting somewhere." Then an update drops. Something gets changed. Something else breaks. The gameplay feels different. Your settings get messed with. A mechanic that worked yesterday suddenly behaves differently today. And now you're searching Reddit and forums trying to figure out whether you're losing your mind or whether EA changed something again. Why should playing a football game require this much troubleshooting? I shouldn't need to spend hours researching sliders because the default gameplay feels terrible. I shouldn't need to search Reddit after an update to figure out why catching suddenly feels different. I shouldn't need to constantly adjust settings to compensate for broken or poorly tuned mechanics. I shouldn't have to wonder whether the next update is going to FIX my game or BREAK something that was already working. JUST MAKE A CONSISTENT FOOTBALL GAME. That's all I want. I don't need some revolutionary new feature every year. I don't need another marketing buzzword. I don't need another mechanic slapped onto the box so there is something new to advertise. I want offensive linemen who block. I want receivers who catch. I want defensive backs who react appropriately. I want ratings to matter. I want user input to matter. I want difficulty that comes from football strategy and execution rather than fighting animations, randomness, or inconsistent mechanics. And most importantly, I want an update to IMPROVE THE GAME instead of making me afraid to launch it afterward. The standard should be so much higher than this. EA has the NFL license. They have the teams. They have the players. They have decades of experience making Madden. They have enormous financial resources. They have mountains of community feedback telling them exactly what frustrates players. There are simply no excuses left. And I'm done making excuses for them. I kept buying Madden because I love football. That's really what EA has been able to rely on. People like me don't keep coming back because every Madden is some incredible masterpiece. We come back because we love the NFL and want a great NFL simulation game. For years I've kept thinking, "Maybe next year." Maybe next year Franchise will finally get the attention it deserves. Maybe next year the gameplay will be more polished. Maybe next year blocking will finally feel right. Maybe next year animations won't dictate everything. Maybe next year updates won't break things. Maybe next year they'll finally put everything together. I'm done with "maybe next year." Madden 27 was my last chance for this franchise. I uninstalled the game. I regret buying it. And this is the last Madden game I will ever spend money on. If a multi-billion-dollar company with decades of experience making football games still can't consistently get the basic fundamentals right, I'm done paying them every year while hoping that someday they will. I've given Madden enough chances. I'm done.

Absolutely ruined the game by monetizing everything in single player. There are almost no changes between Madden 26 and this besides having to pay for everything. Do yourself a favor and just play Madden 26.

Long time madden player single player and h2h/mut . Do not buy this game. Superstar mode - 1. you constantly lose Input in menus , with alt f4 being the only way to fixing it 2. During game players will do things that are completely unnatural even by madden standards , example: QB on a run play will keep the ball and side step into the O-line or just throw it away . Quite a sight to see 3. Piggy backing off of point 2 , your team won't even run the correct play 4. Monetized MUT - I've been a top 100 player as far back as I can remember, I mention this to drive home the fact I get how this game mode works and what's expected . ×Spend some money learn the metas× 1. The paid packs and pass rewards are disrespectful to anyone who puts any money into this year's madden , I'm completely aware of usual odds in the store , this year IT IS BAD The only people saying this is on par are spending their parents money (and probably got beat once the parents found out they spent $600 on 5x 80 platinum players and MAYBE 2 chase cards. 2. The gameplay this year is you either YouTube cheese or play a different game 3. We have 89's already and the field pass gives you "72+" chance packs the "+" is there for no reason you're getting yourself a 72 trash BND card that quick sells for 11 training 4. It is a direct slap in the face how most cards are bound this year from mostly everything. Literally worst madden I've ever played , seems to be made by a group of people who never seen a football game in their life and have a gun to their head to hit a monetary quota.

Madden isn't a football game. It doesn't care about football. It cares about opening Ultimate Team packs. "It can't be that bad, right?" is the question I asked myself before buying the game on sale. "There's no possible way all of these negative reviews are accurate, right?" It is that bad. And everyone who has left a negative review is telling you God's honest truth. My biggest personal gripe? The pass-blocking/run-blocking logic is....dude it might've been written with Claude. I'm not talking about setting protections. I'm not talking about overload blitzes. I'm talking about base Tampa 2, and the left tackle doesn't put a hand on the EDGE. I'm talking about base Cover 4 Palms, and the center not only doesn't block the DT in front of him, turns to the RG and knocks him off his block as well. The genuine question I have is wtf has EA been doing?

I have played this franchise for years, and I can say without exaggeration that this year’s game is an absolute disaster from a gameplay perspective. It is marketed as a next-generation football simulation, but almost nothing about the actual gameplay feels next-gen. The engine feels outdated, restrictive, and fundamentally broken. The biggest problem is that the game does not allow you to play football the way you want to play it. Instead of giving the player freedom and rewarding football knowledge, stick skills, positioning, and decision-making, the game constantly forces you into predetermined animations and mechanics. It often feels like you are watching the game decide what happens rather than actually controlling what happens. Animations Control Everything Physics barely seem to matter. Players warp across the field, change direction unnaturally, and get sucked into magnetic animations that override positioning and momentum. You can make the correct read, throw the ball where only your receiver should have a chance, and still watch a defensive back magically glide across the field or through your receiver because the game triggered an interception animation. The same thing happens with tackling, catching, blocking, and running. Too many plays feel predetermined by whichever animation happens to trigger rather than by what the players actually did on the field. The AI Is Completely Broken Blocking logic is unbelievably bad. Offensive linemen will ignore a defensive tackle directly in front of them so they can run fifteen or twenty yards downfield looking for someone else to block. Meanwhile, you get hit immediately in the backfield. Defensive AI is just as frustrating. Defensive backs randomly stop following routes, ignore receivers entering their zones, or fail to react to passes thrown directly at them. Instead of being able to trust your play call and assignments, you are constantly fighting against your own AI teammates. There Is No Freedom to Play Your Style This might be my biggest complaint. The player has almost no real freedom to play the game the way they want. Every year, more systems, mechanics, abilities, animations, meters, and supposed "features" are added, but instead of making the game deeper, they make it more restrictive and frustrating. It feels like every new feature takes another piece of control away from the player. I do not need another gimmick. I want to call my plays, read the defense, make adjustments, control my players, and have the outcome determined by football decisions and execution. Instead, the game constantly fights you. Certain plays only work because of specific animations. Certain movements are restricted because the game wants to trigger a particular sequence. Players get locked into actions you never intended. The more "features" they add, the less control it feels like you actually have. The Running and Handoff Mechanics Feel Ancient The handoff system is especially terrible. Running backs will practically freeze while waiting for the quarterback to finish a slow, rigid handoff animation. There is no natural momentum or fluidity. By the time you actually gain control of the running back, the defense is already crashing into the backfield. Again, you are not fighting the defense. You are fighting the game itself. The Menus Are Embarrassingly Slow Even when you are not playing, the game manages to be frustrating. The menus are sluggish, freeze constantly, and suffer from noticeable input delay. Something as basic as changing a depth chart, managing a roster, or navigating Franchise mode takes far longer than it should. For a modern sports game, the UI performance is embarrassing. Bugs and Glitches Are Everywhere Scoreboards disappear. Presentation elements break. Menus freeze. Animations glitch. Games crash. Players warp around the field. These are not tiny cosmetic issues anymore. They directly affect the experience and make the entire product feel unfinished. After years of annual releases, there is no excuse for this level of inconsistency. The Franchise Needs a Fundamental Rebuild The frustrating part is that there is still the foundation of a good football game buried somewhere underneath all of this. But instead of fixing the fundamentals, every year seems focused on adding another mechanic, another system, another animation, or another marketable "feature." More features do not automatically make a better game. In this case, many of them actively make the game worse because they take control away from the player and pile additional systems onto an engine that already struggles with basic football. I want a football game where ratings, physics, positioning, play calling, timing, and user decisions determine what happens. I do not want to spend every game figuring out which animations and mechanics I have to exploit just to make football behave like football. This does not feel like a next-generation football simulation. It feels like an outdated engine buried underneath years of recycled systems and unnecessary additions. At this point, the franchise does not need another flashy feature. It needs to give control back to the player, fix the AI, fix the physics, fix the animations, optimize the menus, and rebuild the fundamentals of football gameplay. Until that happens, I cannot recommend spending money on it.

A lot of negative reviews are complaining about Ultimate Team microtransactions. I play purely offline franchise and sometimes online H2H. The game is great, runs super smooth on PC and looks amazing. No complaints. Madden has also added a decent amount of quality improvements for franchise mode including news tab, more in depth negotiation/contract signing process, dynamic weather and time gradually changing during your games, primetime games with different broadcast presentation (scoreboard graphics), Thanksgiving presentation, Halloween presentation, Christmas presentation. The new catch meter is also very nice and makes gameplay feel more authentic with moss plays possible. It feels less RNG animation based and more skill/player rating based for the meter. Finally, the addition of the QB sneak meter is awesome. The meter shrinks or expands based on the defensive fronts look, and the play is no longer animation RNG based. If you're able to hit the perfect zone, you are guaranteed a few inches to a yard every time. I feel like the reviews do not serve it justice. If you enjoy madden (especially if you love franchise mode), it is undoubtedly worth picking up.
