Review by Games for Lovers - only GOOD local co-op games! You want to play something with your significant other? This is a game you might try. Save the world of Palombia in a delightfully charming platformer. The Marsupilami is famous for one thing above all else: its incredibly long tail. It's one of the cutest platformers around. Created by Belgian comic artist André Franquin as a side character in the Spirou & Fantasio comics before eventually starring in its own series, the Marsupilami is a fictional yellow, leopard-like creature covered in black spots, with dog-like ears and, of course, its signature tail. That tail serves many purposes. It can be used as a weapon, as a spring to launch into the air, or as a rotor to glide across gaps. Marsupilamis lay eggs, can breathe underwater, and can even talk, though mostly by saying "Houba." The character has appeared in video games before, including a Sega Mega Drive title and the 2021 platformer Marsupilami: Hoobadventure. While that earlier game was entirely two-dimensional, Marsupilami 2: Salsa Palombia brings the series into a vibrant 2.5D world. The story begins when the evil Mummy Queen hypnotizes the inhabitants of Palombia. The once-friendly locals now wander around like mindless zombies, damaging anyone they touch. It falls to three Marsupilamis, each with their own unique abilities, to track down the Mummy Queen and free the land from her spell. Gameplay follows the classic platforming formula. You'll jump from platform to platform, dodge hazards, defeat enemies with attacks or by bouncing on their heads, and make your way to the end of each stage. Along the way you'll collect various items, including fruit, which can unlock bonus levels on the world map and special challenges in the Dojo Temple. You'll also need to gather musical notes hidden throughout each level. These are often difficult to reach, but collecting enough of them is necessary to access each world's boss battle. The levels are packed with secrets, many of them overflowing with additional fruit. The game offers a substantial amount of content, featuring four completely distinct worlds filled with lengthy stages. While the challenge starts out fairly forgiving, it becomes noticeably tougher as the adventure progresses. You begin with three hearts, and losing them sends you back to the most recent checkpoint. Fortunately, each level contains several checkpoints, although some sections may still require multiple attempts to master. Players can switch between Easy, Normal, and Hard difficulty settings at any time. In many ways, the game reminded me of Nikoderiko: The Magical World. Unlike its predecessor, Marsupilami 2: Salsa Palombia is not strictly a single-player experience. You can play alone and freely switch between the different Marsupilamis, or enjoy the adventure in local co-op with a second controller. Cooperative play is actually more forgiving, as the game only sends you back to the last checkpoint if both players lose all their lives. Otherwise, the defeated player can repeatedly respawn as an egg near their partner. Playing together is great fun, but there is one thing to keep in mind: all three Marsupilamis have different abilities. During my first session with my wife, I became increasingly frustrated because she couldn't perform an air dash. It took me far too long to realize that her particular Marsupilami simply didn't have that ability. After progressing through a few levels, you'll unlock the Dojo Temple, where you can replay discovered dojo challenges and even compete against another player in various mini-games. Additional competitive mini-games can also be unlocked throughout the main story, providing even more opportunities for local multiplayer fun. Conclusion: This is one of the better 2.5D platformers currently available. The first game was already excellent, but the sequel significantly improves both the technology and the amount of content on offer. It's charming, colorful, and accessible, especially during the opening hours. The local co-op mode is a major highlight. Players can revive one another, and experienced players can easily help weaker partners through difficult sections. That makes it a fantastic game to enjoy with children or less experienced gamers. Despite the large number of platformers released these days, very few reach the level of quality found in Marsupilami 2: Salsa Palombia. I had a wonderful time with it, and it served as an excellent way to pass the time while waiting for the hopefully upcoming remastered version of Rayman Legends.

The first Marsupilami game was great despite being ridiculously short and super easy. I think I 100%ed it in 3.5 hours. This one? Hoo boy, did the devs listen to the complaints. This game takes a good deal longer, true (even if you can still get through all the levels in 5ish hours), but it's a massive improvement on all fronts. Three characters with their own unique abilities that you can switch between, tons of creative level designs that make you go "cooooool" with their use of 3D perspective, and some serious challenge if you want to 100% it. If you're looking to 100% this one, there's a lot more collectables (hundreds of notes to collect), and instead of a time trial you have a mode where you have to keep collecting fruits to sustain your multiplier. Getting the full score for these can be legitimately hard, so you'll have plenty to sink your teeth into. The game's really just a joy to play, though, and is one of the best 2D platformers I've played in recent memory. The only issues are that the other mode can be frustrating and the players move a bit too slow when they're not running. They really knocked this one out the park.

An absolutely outstanding platformer that takes everything about the genre and amplifies it to 11. Perfectly refined and addicting gameplay, amazing soundtrack, STUNNING visuals, incredible variety and attention to detail. This game came out so unbelievably polished and it surprises you again, and again, and again, all the way until you get to the very end. Easiest recommendation of my life and probably one of my favorite games ever made. Bravo!

Here's what you do: I compared the first game to Donkey Kong Country Returns. This sequel I would compare to Tropical Freeze: it has a more dynamic camera, the levels are a bit longer, and the difficulty has risen a bit. The three playable characters of the first game return but they now each have their own unique abilities. The main yellow one can air dash into a float like Dixie's. The orange one has a double jump and she can safely jump on glowing invincible enemies. The purple one can turn into a ball that can safely bounce on spikes and also destroys some things when he hits them. You play each level with two of the three characters, the game has predetermined which characters you can use in each level. The game is also two player co-op (unlike the first). The collectables have changed too. There are now five music notes to be found in each level, two more are earned by finding and beating the hidden challenge room, and the common collectable, the fruit, is tallied up at the end of the level to earn three more notes, totaling 10 notes for every level. The fruit also acts as a currency to be used to unlock extra levels and challenges on the world map. After beating a level in adventure mode, the Salsa mode for that level is unlocked. Salsa mode replaces the time trial mode, but instead of simply trying to beat the level as fast as possible, the player is tasked with collecting fruit at a steady pace. Whenever not collecting fruit, a bar depletes and if it reaches zero, you lose your combo. By collecting set amounts of fruit, your combo grows giving you double, triple, or even quadruple the amount of fruit you collect. At the end of the level, you can earn up to 3 more notes based on the total amount of fruit you collect. The music in salsa mode also changes based on the size of your combo. The boss level in each world requires the player to collect 40 notes in order to unlock. This is easily done because there are over 90 possible notes to be collected in each world. What I like: + I believe the music in the first game was good, but I didn't mention it. Still, the music in this game is much better as I noticed tunes I was bopping along to. + The added abilities of each character add to the movement options and allow the game to ask more challenging platforming of the player compared to the first game. In my opinion, the challenge does not ever go over the top, which I am fine with. + There are a total of four worlds, same as the first game after the expansion was added, but they are slightly longer levels, so the game feels longer where the first game felt too short. + There are new challenge room objectives like survive an onslaught of hazards until the time runs out and the objectives are more varied throughout the game. + There are optional challenge cups to be taken from the world map where you face three challenge rooms in a row to earn more notes. + I like the fruit being used as a currency to unlock more levels and challenges, giving it a purpose other than extra lives like in the first game. What I don't like: - The final world requires fewer notes to be collected to face the final boss. I'm not sure why they did that. - There doesn't seem to be any additional content for collecting the notes outside of facing the boss of each world. An extra secret final boss for collecting all the notes would have been cool. Conclusion: I absolutely recommend this game. If you enjoyed the first game or not, this game improves upon it in just about every way. It looks better, it sounds better, and it plays better.

Beat the first world. Snappy controls, faster paced than the first game, a bit more challenging than that too. Looks like it improved in every single way.

On y prête jamais attention.

Just a fantastic DKCR clone! Pretty easy compared to those games, but the time attack mode does step up the difficulty a bit. Highly recommended!
