A true masterpiece that still holds up incredibly well after all these years. Metal Gear Solid 1 is one of the most influential games ever made. The storytelling, the cinematic presentation, the tense stealth gameplay, the unforgettable characters and the pure atmosphere of Shadow Moses are pure magic. The codec conversations, the boss fights (especially Psycho Mantis and the final stretch), the twists… this is peak Hideo Kojima. If you’ve never played it, this is still an essential experience. That said, the Master Collection version of MGS1 is a pretty barebones PS1 emulator. It’s locked at 30 FPS, the resolution is low (with heavy bilinear filtering that makes everything look soft/blurry), there are very few display options, and it requires a controller (no proper keyboard/mouse support). True analog movement was also limited for a long time. Community fixes and better standalone emulators (like DuckStation) can make the game look and feel significantly better nowadays. Still, the game itself is so good that even this imperfect port is worth playing if you just want the official, convenient version. Highly recommended for the content, just manage your expectations on the technical side.

An absolute masterpiece of cinematic stealth action where sneaking through Shadow Moses, dodging guards, and taking down iconic bosses never gets old. Although, the PC port is bare-bones and definitely could have been much better with proper settings and updates, but underneath the rough technical stuff lies an incredible game that every fan should experience.

Amazing game but MGS 1 freezes near the end during Liquids monologue. Game cannot be finished.

The original metal gear solid in all its glory! Great story and a few parts are a little difficult but other then that its fantastic!

This was one of the games I grew up on back on the PS1, and I played it a lot. Replaying it now on PC makes me think that gaming from a creativity and design point of view peaked far too early. They crammed all this on to a two PS1 discs. This game is an absolute master class in game design and story telling, if you have not played it before I highly recommend it. Controls may be a learning curve for new players though, but they are worth learning. The music and sound design have stayed with me since the 90's, from the intro logos to the main menu to the crackle of the codec, simply amazing.
