Is it a game for me ? Absolutely not, actually I'm probably the least qualified person to talk about a vizual novel about queer girls. Hell, I had to google what endometriosis was so that should give you an idea about how little I should be writting a review on a game where it can be a character trait, and so far I've done one single run and I don't have the stomach for a second one yet because I get the feeling that I pulled off a relatively tame conclusion for the story and it was still harrowing, gross, heartbreaking an absolutely lovely. "Cis Boy Not So Though Since Being Exposed To Actual Queer Storytelling" if you're into paraphrazing The Onion but it goes into religious anxiety, the crushing despair and shame of poverty, felling gross and inadequate about your very flesh and the absolute terror that comes with love and desire and I was there for the whole thing muttering to myself "Yeah, it do be like that actually." Again I might be the furthest from a "target audience" for Money for Girls: Amortized and I don't even want to play it again but I think that's exactly why it's great: because I, a clueless idiot, bought the game on the basis that Some Guy off twitter said it was great and an artist I like (Ada Rook) is credited in the soundtrack and it broke me for good in one hour. I was getting called the r-word and the f-slur repeatedly and snorting speed in a toilet stall was probably the least disquieting moment of the game and it only got worse from here. You should play it.

When making my character, I realized that I could be both trans AND a horse girl -- the mere concept of a trans horse girl sent shivers down my spine. I did not turn the game off, no matter how much I thought to do so. Thankfully, there were no themes or story elements that were as horrifying as the possibility that there is a trans horse girl walking around in real life, biding her time. also i liked whenever the mean lady called me the f slur

If you are a man, please play Disco Elysium before playing this. I don't have much time playing this game, but I can already tell that this game is something truly special. As a male, I cannot speak to the female experience, but I still find this character, and their antagonist, incredibly relatable. I don't know if I posses undiagnosed autism, or if I am simply extremely introverted(or both), but this character speaks to me in a way that no other has...besides the mental faculties present in Disco. I read the reviews before buying this game, but I must say that nothing about this is "disgusting". This game is simply incredibly human. This game shows a young person struggling with the myriad of emotions that our biology imposes upon us. This character suffer insecurity, bullying and uncertainty in a way that many of us have, or would, process these circumstances. It is for this(or these) reason(s) that I find her so compelling. This game is...incredible...and I highly recommend it to the those who seek to confront...themselves.

A perfect, awful little game for disgusting girl-failures. A heartfelt story that gets under your skin and invites you to bleed alongside the protagonists. Its gross and its sweet and it made me feel uncomfortable. Give it a try and, to all my fellow boyborn <3

The first REAL afterschool special in over a generation. They’re calling them the Moulting Generation. Wasps really go in for sweet red gunk this time of year. I think it’s appropriate this game was released exactly now when we have maximum Hymenoptera / insect saturation. All you have to do is 1) go outside in the day and feel them hover around you 2) go outside at night and hear them insult you. Let’s go top shelf: this game has the same level of predatory hyperlexical intimidation as Disco Elysium. The writing feels dangerous in the same way, a heady mix of gnomic mythopoesis and the crass demands of lizard brain pulling at You, the player, actually the Plaything. Like your mind is acting like your own mind for once? There’s a lot of commitment to this lying in bed trying to get to sleep bit. There are these odd little nocto sounds, cracks and hums, that periodically interrupt the night. I feel like the parts where you stare blankly at the wall or sit there doing nothing at home are maybe the real mechanics of the game and the daytime stuff is just flavouring. Porpentine is probably the greatest diagnostic prose stylist since Ballard (and likewise seems to treat writing as a branch of neurology). Basically they both write as if trying to flirt via prescription pad. I have this theory that only the extremes of media matter… Like how the most psychotically experimental horror video pairs extremely well with a lot of 90s kids horror tv. I think this is because of the constraints imposed on one vs the absolute noncommercial freedom of the other both tend towards a certain ferocious derangement. The experimental film does it by excess. The kid show gets there by suppression. They each have distinctive feelings that separate them utterly from the mass of mediocre middleware, they each can hit that weird point of poetic knowhow. What’s really incredible is that this game somehow manages to embody both feelings at the same time. The artwork can only be described as invasive. I didn’t really realize there were these subformal conventions in visual novels, the characters always used to respect things like personal space. Here they are unearthly Large, Intrusive, Rabelaisian almost in their inability to read the room. Close-talkers. Lady Dirt? THE GODS ARE TOO CLOSE. Odd little mechanics like how the screen throbs and pulses along with your mouse movements. It’s trying to tell you something. Maybe it’s actually alive, like that Ranpo story about the pervert who hid in the chair to take the full daily weight of the sitter. It feels like this is not a game actually it is just a person inside there, peepholing you and suppressing hysterical laughter every time you make a “choice.” Tom Brown’s Schooldays for the Maggot Era.
