This is pretty much what it says on the tin, a sweet little game about finding moths. I did not expect a bittersweet queer love story to reveal itself through short letters or getting to pet a (possibly supernatural?) cat, but the focus is on the beautifully drawn nature scenes and the different moths that inhabit them. I really appreciate that unlike many other "cozy" games, this one treats insects like actual living beings instead of objects to be caught. You observe the moths though a minigame, and instead of putting them in a collection or selling them, you collect drawings of their different life stages in a journal. The game is as educational as you want it to be. You can ignore the drawings with little informative comments in the journal, or you can read the scientific note in the menu and look up references for further reading. I loved that I could recognise some of the moths, and maybe I'll look up their Norwegian names. It's not a very deep game in any way, and that's fine. Just don't think too hard about details like why observing moths gets you coins, or how the apartment scene is actually super gross :P The accessibility options are fantastic for such a small project: you can choose hue and saturation for the minigame colours, and you can turn the quick-time events into slow-time events. At least some of them. The one thing that bothered me a bit in this game was that there was a big difference in speed and difficulty of the minigames for different moths. So with the speed setting very close to the slowest possible, for some moths I found it a bit too slow (because of waiting times) while for some it was still a little stressful (looking at you, Emerald Owl!). Some of the moths' earlier development stages can be hard to spot, but there are only a few locations in each scene where they can randomly spawn. Hovering over them will show you little hearts (if you've already discovered them) or question marks. The magnifying glass will reveal a location, and I don't think it has a cooldown. There's a garden, so obviously I had to fill it with flowers and it might have taken an hour or more of my play time. I generally took my time enjoying the relaxing vibes - most people seem to finish the game much quicker than I did. Overall I really enjoyed my time with Mothkeep. I liked, tho I wished there wasn't much more than the demo had to offer. In the pictures and trailers on the Steam page you can see pretty much everything you can expect. For me personally it was a bit to short for the price of 5€. I think this game is absolutely delightful, and very cute. I hope to see more moths and habitats added so I can keep discovering new little critters! That's really my only gripe, that I was able to "complete" the game so quickly. But it's an adorable little cozy game.

It's such a cute little game. I found myself very invested in finding out, how the "imago" phase of a certain moth would look like! Very cozy and quite educational as a side effect.

A sweet little game with nice art, but I really don't think it quite earns the price. If it had a bit more content or you had to look up the moths in a book it might be better? This said, I would recommend it if you aren't hard up for money and you're willing to support small indie developers.

i really enjoyed this game. its like a hidden object game combined with a creature collector. but if you keep using the sleep button like me, it take only an hour to beat the game. please add new locations, moths, mechanics, and little minigames to get to the moths. if you do, i would really appreciate it!
