Preamble: Life long footy fan, avid gamer and have played a bunch of AFL titles going all the way back to 'Aussie Rules Footy' on the NES - so this is not a skill issue. Was super excited to play this, and think it's a great start, but after playing this title for nearly 2 hours I can unquestionably say that unfortunately this game is broken AF. Here are some very basic additions that could immediately fix that. [*]Let me choose my team in season mode [*]Let me remove the bullsh*t powerups during season mode [*]Let me choose the CPU difficulty in season mode [*]Fix the hit out/ball up animation so that it actually indicates that you are meant to hit buttons in a sequence, not 'mash' them as it currently indicates - that took me far too long to work out due to poor UI The biggest one of these has to do with the CPU difficulty, which is permanently on insane mode. I think I won like 2 out of 15 games, and not for a lack of trying. A few games were close, but then some bullsh*t powerup crap would happen and suddenly they'd kick 5, 6, 7 goals in a row, meanwhile my team either had no arms, couldn't go near the ball without falling over, was tiny, or otherwise just unplayable. I know, the devs probably had a good old laugh when making this, and I chuckled for the first five minutes, but then the game stopped being fun when I realised I was unable to actually have any sort of impact on the score. I didn't pay for a 'you lose whilst random stuff happens' AFL simulator. I thought this would be like NBA Jam, with some random crap that I might be able to turn off or otherwise ignore. All of this needs to be fixed ASAP - now, I'm going to have to grab a refund, and check this game out down the line. I strongly recommend that everyone else does as well. Devs, feel free to reply to this thread when you've fixed these gamebreaking bugs. Over to you.

I bought this on Switch first, (hence the low Steam playtime, I have too many hours in the switch version) absolutely loved it, and bought it again here (definitely not so I can play it in class). I'm Canadian, and have been a fan of Aussie Rules for years. This is not only the best footy game I've ever played, but one of the best sports game I've ever played. It's more than just a game, though. After describing it as "Tape to Tape but better, weirder, and footy instead of hockey" it's helped a few of my friends here in Canada get interested in Aussie Rules. This game has led to a few friends and I playing kick to kick in the local park, and now I'm hoping to join my local club next season (up the Wombats!). This game is definitely difficult, I suck (just like I do at real footy) but I just keep coming back to it. Broden Kelly's voiceover is incredible, the cards always are a good laugh, and really work to make the game more than "just" a footy game, and the vibes of each of the teams are incredible (once again, carn the Wombats). There are a few things that could be better. While this game is definitely better on controller, I can't stand the tab key being mapped to switch players on keyboard/mouse, and would love it to be on q or e, or even better the option to remap keys. I love the season mode, but I'd also love a non-jank season as an option. After the other team kicks a behind, it's kind of annoying that if you press a to continue one too many times, you automatically handball it between your own posts.

Fun but I'm sure it's bugged. Some of the cards that should affect the other team affect me instead or the labels on the cards are just wrong. Season mode is rubbish, can't choose a team and just randomly starts up a ladder with 3 powerups to start per team but there always seems to be other effects that are just applied at the start (usually explosive ball) and then it randomly stops halfway through the game. Hopefully we can get a patch with some polish but still a fun game otherwise if you like Aussie Rules.

Reasonable base game and has plenty of potential, but feels like an undercooked cash grab at this point in time. Single player experience is sparse and season mode is painfully on rails. A good game to play a bit with mates, but just completely lacking in depth and replayability. The control scheme, movement, and player selection all require improvement. The jank could really use a bit more creativity and just gets a bit tedious and repetitive after a while.
