As much as I have my own personal gripes with the game, I am sick of seeing the influx of negative reviews. The game is cheaper to play now than before and you get all the cosmetics ever released. I prefer this game to live personally, I do think I'm an outlier in that regard and I know I haven't played recently (before spawn stack patch) but this game is genuinely fun. It's quake and I guarantee you and your friends have this lying around in your library collecting dust and if you dont, buy it. The concept of this game being f2p was pretty fake if you weren't constantly getting public games. I'm from Australia and we have a small but strong duel scene for this game hosting a LAN last year (placed 12th/Div 2 4th) and one upcoming this year and with how xp works you would not earn a whole lot and challenges weren't completable. Play Live if you want I don't care, both games have their issues and preferences but to disparage Champions for things like having abilities or not being real quake is so mindblowing to me. The depth that champions add to the game, the matchups and map viability for each champion is awesome. Being scared of someones Clutch or Slash is such an awesome feeling. To say Champions is not real quake because of abilities, whilst embodying every iteration of movement quake has produced is ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ insane.

This may look like one of those generic hero shooters, but once you've actually spent the time playing it it's pretty clear that deep down, it's still 100% a Quake game. Each character has their own gimmicks but it still plays like Quake more than anything in spite of that. If you're looking to get into the series you're better off spending the $10 on Live, but with access to the full roster from the get-go and microtransactions being abolished, what you do get is still solid for the price and incredibly fun. Adam Pyle a.k.a. SyncError, the former (as of today, at the time of this writing) lead dev, pushed hard to make sure that upper management wouldn't bury this game in the sands of time like Concord and all the other live service games dropping like flies as of late, and he was able to get his layoff postponed just to wrap this up. MASSIVE thanks to him and the rest of the devs for all their hard work they've done to keep this game alive. Here's hoping the remaining skeleton crew will be allowed to wrap up community server support.

The microtransaction model in games in general is something that I despise. For context, I started gaming in the early 2000s, and games required effort to progress, not paying for content. That was before the DLC thingy was a real thing. Now, I've been playing this Quake version for quite some time; I remember starting the franchise by playing Quake III, which I used to host dedicated servers at my university. I must say, when I first started playing, it felt odd not being able to play as other characters. The progress to get shards in order to "buy" other characters followed the same BS as any other game that followed the microtransactions hype, making progress purposefully hard so it’d be worth using a credit card. I see a lot of folks are going to criticize the direction the devs are taking after the last update by making this game non-free, and they're warranted, since a lot of players bought content from it and now they're being given it for free to newcomers and casual players. It's ♥♥♥♥♥♥. Maybe it's in its final stride, unless they introduce new content via DLCs instead of microtransactions (even though the comparison is questionable), or add new content and make the progress harder. However, arena shooters have a niche spot. Gone are the days when they were a thing, and making them free-to-play initially gave them easy access. But cheating skyrocketed like any other free-to-play game, and microtransactions were inevitable as any other way in order to keep the game "profitable", whether you like it or not. I'm aware that regardless of access, cheating is going to be a thing, but I think adding a price barrier would make it more of a hassle and could keep bad actors from creating other Steam accounts, since they'd need to buy the game again. Either way, a lot of criticism is warranted and shouldn't be ignored. If you look at the reviews or anywhere else, you'll see what I mean. Despite all its flaws, I think this game is worth it the way it is NOW as of when I wrote this review; on the other hand, I'd wait until the devs enable a way for us to create dedicated servers and be able to mod them (plugins, etc etc etc.), even though it's far-fetched in gaming's current state.

As of playing this today 9/24/26. I can not reco this game. It is just not Quake. Champions are a weird choice and are reflective of the times. When this game launched in 2017 it was just after the explosive growth of Overwatch and I am almost certain that had something to do with how this game came out. Speaking on the merits of the game itself. For one it doesn't even use the IdTech Engine so everything feels off. The game is not as smooth with me frequently getting random framerate drops and stutters even with good hardware. The game has almost no players in 2026 averaging less than 1000 a day so getting matches outside of TDM is nearly impossible. The game also just has less content than its predessors. Quake Live has more content and you will be more likely to find people to play with if asked. Do not buy this game. It was a waste instead play Quake 3 Arena with IoQuake or play Quake Live its the same price as this piece of ♥♥♥♥.

about time they ditched the Loot box crawl and gave it a reasonable RRP value. it's fine guys it doesn't change the game you don't lose access if you been playing it. i just wish they stuck with the MODDING format of the late 90s and gave the tools to the communty to allow them to create maps mods and host their own servers, see the issue with Bethesda was they wanted to host everything and control everything but it would mean they would have to fund everything. Just make the game create the tools let the game evolve move on to another doom or fall out game. don't even know if we're gonna get another QUAKE arena or a champagne times are just BS right now, the industry is currently at a stagnaiton point because HOME PCs are about to enter a Singularity point where home compute will be a terminal access to a cloud data center so they will sell it back to you like cable access TV Nothing changes,.

Game was always good, but had that F2P nonsense. They got rid of it, so now it's even better. Lots of characters and customizable options to choose from for visual flair purposes, but gameplay is 100% skill based. More F2P games should do this.

вообще обычно наоборот в мёртвых играх поднимают онлайн делая их бесплатными, но у бетезды всё как всегда через анус. Бтв для тех, кто залутал бесплатно - это теперь даже неплохая игра, без лишнего кала, оставили только фан

Quake is basically one of the pillars of FPS and Quake Champions keeps exactly what made it so good The multiplayer feels clean, everything hits right, movements are still insanely smooth and it really feels like old Quake with just the right touch of modern graphics Only sad part is the playerbase, this game deserves way more players The Quake essence is still here and that's all I wanted 10/10
