Re:Night
Re:Night is a strategy game that combines turn-based tactical combat with roguelike deckbuilding. Build your deck over the course of each run while navigating battlefields filled with tactical possibilities. Any combination of three characters can create more than 20 unique builds, and the interaction between multiple strategic systems delivers deep, rewarding, and highly replayable combat.
Travel to a mysterious town, break the endless cycle of night with your own hands, and restore dawn to the world.
Tactical combat introduces strategic mechanics such as frontline and backline positioning, flanking, blocking, and protecting allies. Combined with elemental counters, equipment, and item effects, these systems create countless opportunities for powerful combinations.
Command three characters simultaneously in every battle, each with a distinct role. Whether focusing on burst damage, battlefield control, healing, or environmental interactions, careful coordination and party synergy are the keys to victory.
Fire, Water, and Grass form a cyclical elemental counter system. Exploit elemental advantages to unleash devastating critical hits and deal massive damage.
Coordinate your three characters to trigger elemental critical hits while positioning them to deny your enemies the same advantage. Every move requires careful planning, but victory also depends on adapting to an ever-changing battlefield.
Every character features unique talents and an exclusive pool of character-specific cards. Combine more than 300 cards with over 200 pieces of equipment and items to create more than 20 distinct builds for any three-character party.
Become an unstoppable brawler, a demolition expert, or a relentless lancer. Even the stone walls of the battlefield can become powerful weapons. In Re:Night, your imagination is your greatest strength.
Undo your last action, rewind to the start of the current turn, or even restart the battle from the very beginning at any time. Never let a single mistake ruin your adventure, and face unfamiliar enemies with the freedom to explore different strategies.
Study enemy behavior, experiment with different positioning, card sequences, and elemental combinations, then use each rewind to test new ideas, refine your strategy, and discover your own path to victory.
Every run offers a fresh adventure, with diverse maps, random events, challenging battles, and unexpected encounters waiting to be discovered.
Begin your journey beside the stream outside the town, venture through the dangers hidden within the village, and ultimately ascend to a castle shrouded in mystery. With every adventure, you'll unlock new content, playable characters, and even greater challenges to overcome.
Each character has their own memory fragments, known as Chrono Shards. Collect them to unlock hidden cards and equipment, expanding your tactical options with every discovery.
Gather every Chrono Shard to uncover the truth behind the endless cycle of night.

In the month since I purchased Re:Night, I've played it more than 70 hours. For me, that's a sign of a good game. Part of the game's appeal comes from the elemental system, which allows players to deal extra damage if they use an elemental attack against an enemy that was previously hit with the element that attack is strong against. With enough setup, this can lead to satisfyingly high damage numbers. It also has the side effect of changing which cards will help each character excel from run to run. In a run with the grass-dealing Farmer and the fire-themed Hunter, the Farmer needs to prioritize cards that will stack grass on the enemy so the Hunter can burn it down. But replace the Farmer with the water-themed Ninja, and the Hunter moves into the support role, favoring fast, low-damage attacks that stack Fire so the Ninja can extinguish it. Deckbuilding is not the game's only appeal. The small battlefields, limited movement ranges and potentially devastating elemental interactions can make positioning extremely important in some battles, especially at the higher difficulties. While players always need a decent deck, the right moves can sometimes turn certain defeat into a hard-won victory. I know that because Re:Night makes it easy and guilt-free to backtrack to the start of a turn, the previous turn, or even the beginning of the battle. The game also tries to help players learn how to play. In addition to covering the Re:Night-specific mechanics and important tactics, such as repositioning to block enemies' access to low-health allies, the tutorial highlights some general deckbuilding principles that might be unfamiliar to people new to the genre. For example, it encourages the player to skip taking a card reward when none of the options fit their core strategy, emphasizing that a small but focused deck is often more effective than a pile of cards that pull in different directions. When it presents card options, the game highlights which cards tend to work well for each character by putting a thumbs up icon above them and saying something like, "The Farmer suggests this card." Sometimes the game would recommend a card I consider weak, but I could usually at least guess how it could synergize with that character's card pool. It wasn't always a great pick for the cards the character had in that run, though. Re:Night uses two other tools to teach. When the player first encounters a given battle, the characters will discuss the enemies' strengths and weaknesses, then outline one or two approaches to the battle. For example, in a fight against a hut that spawns crows, it suggests two options: charge forward to destroy the hut itself as quickly as possible, or hang back and force the crows to approach, minimizing the damage the party takes as they gradually wear the hut down. Second, many of the card unlocks come through puzzle battles that demonstrate how to use those cards to good effect. Sometimes seeing the combos and high damage numbers inspired me to try a strategy I'd previously ignored. Those puzzle battles also unlock equipment that characters can equip to give themselves an edge. Getting certain equipment early can change the direction the deck wants to go, reinforcing the game's variety. Upgrades on some card reward options and randomly-assigned discounts in the shop also give players an incentive to explore new strategies. However, there are always least two options for equipment and three for cards, so players have plenty of opportunities to push a run in the direction they want it to go. My only real complaint about Re:Night is that a couple cards work differently than their English text implies. Fortunately, the ambiguous phrases are rare, and the ability to rewind battles mitigates some of the frustration I'd otherwise feel when a card doesn't work the way I expect. This is also something that may be fixed as the game evolves. I'd add that at least for me, the game is hard at the higher difficulty ratings. I'm not sure I have the skill to beat it on the highest difficulty, but that's a feature, not a bug. It's nice to have something to aspire to even after playing for 70 hours, especially when I can get a more relaxing but still fun experience by turning the difficulty down. The story isn't deep, but it does the job of explaining why the loop exists and connecting the heroes and enemies to the setting. If you enjoy roguelike deckbuilders or tactics games that provide plenty of opportunities for both experimentation and skill expression, I'd highly recommend Re:Night.

While the game does give a new take on the card based rougelike genre with using 3 characters you control each with there own deck and health the game gets boring after some time as the tactic movement system gets annoying a feels tact on and slow, might be worth a try to see if you like it but can not recommend it.

Super fun with a clever way of teaching new mechanics when new cards are introduced.
