This is more a review of this specific port than the game itself. Resident Evil 2 is an incredible game and I genuinely love it. However, I cannot recommend this port, instead I'd urge you to pick the GOG port instead if you want to play it on PC. This port is mostly the same as the GOG support but with two crucial differences that ruin the experience for the Steam version: 1. GOG is DRM-free while Steam has Enygma DRM - The Enygma DRM was broken for Linux users and required workarounds until a fix in Proton 11 2. Steam Input is utterly broken in this game - While it has a "partial controller support" tag, it really only supports pure-play XInput devices 3. Steam has NO CLOUD SAVE; GOG does have cloud save - Now this is a no-brainer, there really is no reason to not have it in the age of the Steam Deck I'd love to give this release a positive rating because it's otherwise fairly stable. There were just some ridiculous decisions and lack of support that just makes this release difficult to recommend over the GOG release that's much more accessible.

An upgrade to RE1 on every level possible, it was pretty good. In comparison to RE2R, there are of course some parts that haven't aged well (puzzles are too simple, bosses are worse, Mr X of this game is just kind of there and not as menacing) but it does some things better than the remake. The route system is much better in this one; items you pick up effect the other route directly and it was nice to see how Leon and Claire's stories interject with each other. Thanks to fixed camera I also think this game does the "horror" aspect a bit better. Definitely worth playing, offers a different perspective from Remake. Even though they are "same" games, they are very different in their own approach to game design.

This Review Covers Just Claire A. Will Update when I finish Leon B. So after playing almost every other mainline RE, except OG 2 and 3, I really enjoyed RE2. I heard Claire A was the better start so chose her, and got see where all the praise for the series truly took off. I Very much enjoyed RPD, there were a lot of fun moments there. The sewers were paced better then 2 remake, and the Factory was good, but most of the game takes place in RPD, which to me was really good overall. Curious to see how the Leon B scenario changes the game, and if its Better Overall.

As goofy as it is, almost horror comedy at times, it's undeniably classy. The fixed camera isn't a relic of time past, but a distinct artistic choice that frames every shot with a unique mood and anxiety, aided by its great soundtrack and sound design. At its best, it's like being in a playable zombie movie in way few games can achieve. Despite its age, the fundamentals of how it builds tension are thoroughly intact, and laughing at its silliness becomes a welcome relief from the genuine moment to moment stress of managing resources and navigating its lavishly threatening environments. While the remake has its own strengths, it ultimately cannot replace a bona fide piece of gaming history. The controls *are* clunky, even the original Silent Hill is smoother to play, but be patient and you'll figure it out sooner than you think. Don't let your preconceptions around old games cheat you out of a great experience.

Resident Evil 2 is a significant set up in visual quality over its predecessor. While the Spencer Mansion was eerie and vacant, Raccoon City, and in particular its police department, are a vivid tapestry of the zombie apocalypse. The gameplay formula is the tried and true survival horror variety, essentially unchanged from RE1. The soundtrack is incredible, the fixed camera angles are top notch, and one playthrough is a tight five hours, what's not to love. Well, the PC port is pretty barebones unfortunately. Thanks to Mulderland for the convenient modpack that does everything I'd ask for anyway: upscaled backgrounds, REbirth, and other fixes.

补一下两年多前玩的老生2评价。 花了几周时间玩通生化危机2原版，用了PC版和NGC高清版两个版本，主要打了普通难度里昂表篇克莱尔里篇，困难难度克莱尔表篇里昂表篇4个周目，外加极限模式1、2、3难度，第四幸存者汉克和豆腐模式通关，其中极限模式和豆腐是拿模拟器即时存档玩的。总体体验下来生化危机2原版在当年确实是比较优秀的作品，表里关设计和今天的RE版相比依然具有优势，但依然存在较多不足。 我个人是比较注重于地图设计和探索体验的，在这一方面，生化危机2让我相当失望。“警察局”这个词都让人要听出老茧了，但实际玩下来也就这样，远远不如rebio的洋馆。警察局体量只有洋馆的一半，很多路线只去一次，没有多条路线到达目的地的规划，近路设计基本只剩大厅、室外楼梯两处，完全没有洋馆多种目的反复往返利用地图的精致感。四色钥匙和rebio剑、铠、头盔徽章的设计没法比，表篇黑桃钥匙就是同一条路来回走两次，红桃钥匙只开一扇门，方块和草花钥匙可选抉择只剩下1楼东侧最里面的回廊。下水道最多只能和rebio中庭地下五五开，研究所玩法也不如rebio多样，rebio密码john、ada非常浪漫又为续作埋下伏笔，多周目还可以少跑流程直接输密码，2代只剩下了两个“guest”了。总而言之，生化2原版的地图并没有很多老玩家吹得那么出色，特别是一周目普通难度表关体验只能说一般，物资充足，丧尸也不够打，地图设计和探索方面也难以让人满意，且不说“时代滤镜”，最主要的还是rebio珠玉在前了，对比之下差距实在有点大。 当然，生化危机2如果真的就那么一般也不会被很多玩家称为“最经典的一代”了。在我看来，生化危机2的游戏体验实际上是一个随周目增加逐渐上升的过程。 本作最为突出的优点和特色必然是大家都津津乐道的“表里关设计”，这一点不得不承认，生化危机2做得是相当出色，比起前作不同角色小幅度区分比起来可谓是天差地别。对于表关来说，里关的流程设计、敌人分布、物资摆放、boss体验都是完全重做的。表里关的流程中警察局在做到关键物品基本摆放一致的情况下路线完全不同，下水道和研究所部分也有额外区域可以探索，不同的敌人分布和物资摆放导致同样的场景需要玩家思考不同的战术，而最令人震惊的是，表关里关面对的boss是完全不一样的，表关打G原体、G2、G3和G4，里关则是G1、G2.5、完全体暴君和G5，这样的差异化让玩家里关体验相当新鲜，不会有厌倦感。 除了新内容之外，表里关设计的另一个特点也非常值得一提，那就是“联动设计”。表关武器库发现的冲锋枪和额外背包可以选择不拾取留给里关使用；表关击毙了鳄鱼里关就不用再面对；表关用了反bow装置会加大里关的难度；表关和里关同时输入密码后，里关可以拿到额外的一把冲锋枪等等。对于挑战高难、体验探索的玩家来说，这是一种跨周目的流程规划和物资管理，需要思考的地方更多，对于流程向、剧情向玩家来说，表里关设计也补足了游戏内容，叙事也更加全面，让人实实在在感受到上一周目的努力延续到了最后。 老生化的核心是“路线规划、物资管理”。如果说你觉得普通难度过于简单，降低了乐趣，那么PC版独有的困难难度则非常适合喜欢挑战的玩家。也正是在困难难度开启之后，生化危机2才真正有意思了起来。 2代的困难难度和rebio还是有些差别，物资部分其实并没有减少太多，只有弹药削减了1/3，但是敌人的血量和伤害增加了相当多，普通难度只要4-7枪就倒地的丧尸可能吃三下弩箭和榴弹都不死，手枪更是别想让他们动摇丝毫。在这种情况下，路线规划和物资管理的意义就大了起来，在警察局阶段，你要仔细思考敌人分布位置和己方的行动路线，来判断这一个敌人是否要消耗弹药来击退，这一发榴弹到底值不值，这才是老生化的真正乐趣所在。当然，困难难度主要也就是克莱尔篇较难，表篇通关我只剩下了30多发普通榴弹和80多发手***，其余什么冲锋枪、电击枪、弩弹、硫酸弹统统用完了。而火力大的里昂里篇就算没拿冲锋枪最后也还剩30多发散弹和近50发麦林，可谓溢出相当多。除此之外，困难难度本质上还是压力给足了，实际上因为色带一点没少，玩家完全可以跑完一个关键流程就存一次档，不追求高评价只是通关那绰绰有余了。 剩下的第四幸存者和EX挑战是对地图的重复利用，放到现在来看算是跑酷模式和肉鸽模式。而豆腐则需要你对敌人的特点相当了解，才能做到不使用武器迅速通过，是相当不错的挑战。虽然为了节约时间我EX模式和豆腐都是用了模拟器的即时存档功能玩的，但也算是体验到了不少乐趣。 总评：值得喜欢老生化模式的玩家游玩，但如果你是按顺序从rebio玩下来的，建议放低期待。要玩的话建议一周目普通难度初见，二周目切换角色困难难度挑战，表里通关四遍算是对生化2原版的全面体验。

if i didnt grow up with this game , maybe my review would be different but if you have nostalgia with it then youll be happy. The remake is good but too many differences to count. especially with how the game starts & marvins role in the beginning at RPD & many other parts etc etc... I bought this game to own it forever as a piece to keep with me.
