IMMERSIVE DISCO-PUNK SPACE-HORROR!

SURVIVING AURORA 5

STEALTH VS ACTION

BLURB

I'm not super far into the game yet, but I'm having an absolute blast so far. It's a great mix of BioShock, System Shock, and Prey, with a touch of Dead Space. You find yourself lost in the heart of the Aurora 5 space station and it's up to you to figure out what happened. The gameplay is classic but effective. The weapons feel great, and the game gives you a lot of freedom in how you tackle enemies. And those who enjoy a challenge will definitely love the hardcore modes, which force you to carefully manage every situation. BUT, a bit of a disappointment if you're trying to play stealthily (there's actually an achievement for completing the game without killing anyone), as the stealth system isn't very precise. Enemies sometimes spot you far too easily even when you're in the shadows (or think you are), which can get a little frustrating. Oh and also... ladders are officially your worst enemy in this game. You're going to hate them. The interface is a bit clunky and lacks flexibility at times. Despite a few minor flaws (that will surely be patched), the game is awesome. The sound design work is insane and really helps create an incredible atmosphere. It brings back that same thrill of discovery I experienced with Bioshock. If you like this genre, you'll love it.

I don't really want to critique this game with a bad review, because I love immersive-sims, there are not a lot of them out there for objective reasons and it's truly a feat to make one, especially for an indie studio. Thus, I will mark this review as a positive one just to help devs, but really it's like 50-50 for me. 1. Balance. It doesn't exist in this game. I died 2 times. One time due to badly designed ladders from Half-Life 1. One time I was killed by an eastern egg, won't spoil it. You always have infinite amount of ammo, heals, resources for upgrades. Even if you don't use stealth and a bunch of environment-based mechanics this game has. I just killed everyone I saw. 2. Because you always have everything and you are literally immortal, you aren't really motivated to use anything the game has to offer. I believe I explored 99% of the game, but I did so just because I was curious, I didn't have to do it to progress, to make my life easier etc. 3. Game is really not intuitive. Sometimes it's a good thing, sometimes it's a bad thing when you have literally no clue (or worse - false clues) where to go and what to do. 4. Interdimension hub is a cool thing, but sometimes it feels like it doesn't really save you any time because of where exactly its doors are located. And you will have to run a lot, like A LOT in the second half of the game. And there are no sprinting mechanics or at least stamina enhancer, all you can do it is to use metamods to teleport. 5. Metamods are OP. Once you unlock them, you literally have god-tier buffs without any debuffs. Once I acquired my very first metamod I didn't use a heal once for the rest of the game. I've accumulated so much medkids and food that I had to just drop them somewhere in hub. Don't even bother with recycling it, resources are infinite, you will just lose time. 6. UI is bad. Like really bad. I don't even know where to start here, but I believe everyone who played this game will agree with me on this point. Every time you have to use local equivalent of pip-boy it causes frustration. Good thing you don't have to use it often. Is it a bad game? No. It's a game with a hell lot of potenial, it was obviously made with a lot of love and care, but it fails to deliver because it has some fundamental problems. It has a lot of good sides too, I just didn't mention them, but I wouldn't play it for so long or write this review if the game was trash. If you are a fan of immersive sims - play it for sure, it's not like you have anything better to play lmao. I wish devs all the best, god bless you if are willing to make another immersive-sim, I'm sure it will be much better next time.

No markers or yellow paint. Only man. I am Andrew Ryan, and I'm here to ask you a question: Is a man not entitled to the sweat of his brow? "No!" says the quest marker, it belongs to the impatient. "No!" says the in-game GPS, it belongs to the blind. "No!" says the witcher sense, it belongs to the dumb. I rejected those answers. Instead, I chose something different. I chose the impossible. I chose... RetroSpace. A game where the curious would not fear the quick-time event, where the creative would not be bound by petty cinematics, where the ideas would not be constrained by the playtesters. And with the sweat of your brow, RetroSpace can become your game as well.

Fantastic game; a mix of the best of fallout, system shock and bioshock with great music, sound effects and voice acting. Excellent world building and gameplay makes for a good time.Aurora would actually be a pretty sweet place to hang out...minus the mutants

I was having a good time until i bricked my run by having the audacity to explore around the map and wander into an area with a seemingly immortal rabbit. I am now stuck in a loop of death because it starts attacking me while I'm still spawning in. Now you're probably thinking "why not just load a previous save?". I would love to. unfortunately this games autosaves overwrite your quick saves for some reason so now i just get to choose between 3 instant death timelines. not sure whose idea the bunny was or who thought it was a good idea to have the game auto save over your manual saves. All i know is that both of those poor choices have brought me to the point of needing to completely restart in order to be able to continue to play the game i bought. Update: after way too much time i was able to barely kill the thing. again, up until this point i was having a great time. i will update my review after i beat the game

I replayed Prey last year and loved it more than I did the first time. I almost went immediately into NG+ to play it again. Sadly, that kind of game is rare to find and Arkane won't be making anything like that any time soon. Abiotic Factor was very close and I beat that twice! This is Prey, again. I'm excited to see a game tackle that specific type of game and do it well, other than me getting lost multiple times trying to find X or Y. The reviews are accurate. If you're a big fan of Prey, Bioshock, or System Shock, this game will scratch that itch. The issues I have with the game: The difficulty being WAY too easy on the standard difficulty. The real issue is you can't change the difficulty after you start a game so I'm stuck being overpowered and not feeling threatened by anything (Though the game is still fun). Play on 1999 or the hardest difficulty. Turn on protected quicksaves if you have to. The UI can be a little finnicky like scrapping taking a second and you scrap a LOT. You can use R to rotate items, though the game doesn't tell you in the controls or on the UI. I didn't need to use food at all during the entire game. I scrapped everything I found because of healing being a non-issue. Very badly balanced. Ammo is incredibly abundant so I ended up scrapping a lot of ammo, too. I scrapped medkits, too because of said healing from mutagens. Some of the mutamods are pretty lame and for how hard credits are to come by, it can be a little deflating when you buy mutamods you never end up using. Most of them are finnicky to use, don't work half the time, or are overpowered (Moth). Two of them make stealing even easier than it already is but I didn't feel I needed them most of the game. The AI of the enemies is a little derpy... Combat is too easy. Things are very easy to kill and with an abundance of ammo everywhere you never have to worry about ammo. There's clever ways to kill stuff but I never needed to bother... which is a letdown. Combat needs to be harder. AI needs to be better and monsters need to be harder to kill. Stealth isn't incentivised at all. And you don't need to use the heal dome gene reconstruction unless you have debuffs from dying or other things. Don't waste 50 credits multiple times like I did. The tutorial didn't really explain that and I thought it was neeed to spawn at that heal dome or something. The game is still very much worth buying! Play on one of the two harder difficulties. It sounds like a lot of issues... and looking back, there is a lot of issues. I STILL recommend the game.

I've played through about 2/3 of the game now and I really like it. Sure it is a smaller, more condensed version of your AAA Immersive Sim but it has all the parts you'd expect, a nice aesthetic and it does not take itself so seriously. Pretty much what I'd want from an indie loveletter to the genre. Not Deus Ex levels of great but (so far) I'm enjoying it way more than the System Shock Remake.
