Secret Files 1 is quite a mixed bag, in terms of cutscenes and variety of Level layouts, playtime and scenery it is probably an A-class work, as it is beautiful and it holds up surprisingly well, but this is where every positive thing about it ends, sort of. There are some really great puzzles in it for a point and click game, then there are some godawful or confusing ones such as the Recipe puzzle or the Compass puzzle and the story starts off interesting than it becomes a hard to follow info dump, which in my mind is a simple story but got told in a confusing non-linear way. It has some similiarities to Broken Sword games I would say, but it has a much more serious tone with occassional puns. Nina is a very Tomb Raider-y protagonist with a kind of forced attitude, but I didn't find her annoying, altough the drama side of things she only has one emotion, in fact, many of the cast members have one emotion, they are able to joke in near death situations, and are easily gullible, this is proved by the voice acting which is a bare minimum job for 90% of the time besides some rare characters like the Nurse, I would say. It is also not very well engineered, as you can tell how half-way through they got done at home rather in a studio, so the sound and volume changes throughout a single scene. Would I recommend the game? Yes because it certainly takes you around the globe, and has many puzzles to get lost in, as it is an 11+ hour adventure or so, but only for Point and click veterans, as this is overally leaves a pretty sour taste in your mouth by the end of it. It made me question whether I even want to buy Secret Files 2 or not, as overally I did not enjoy 50% of the game, but that 50% that I enjoyed was very fun puzzle wise, but if you have a game where the mystery is getting less and less interesting the more you uncover rather than to achieve the opposite... it kinda makes me label this review as mixed than an absolute recommendation.
